Is it really a good idea to release housing in the middle of day?

I know this will be just another housing rage thread but this concerns me for some time. All the patches are usually released around 12 AM/1 PM GMT which is mostly fine because if things like world firsts matters for you then you can take a free day. The problem is for housing. Housing ime is a concern of casual players as well and taking a Tuesday of just for a try to buy a house becomes often a problem. Wouldnt it makes sense to release it in every datacentre in different times so people can have a chance to get back from work/school and actually have a chance?

... how do you follow? For me patch time ends at around midnight. It's different for everyone.

I'm curious about the timing of this post. I think there's at least one housing thread on the page when you posted this. Is there something happening that I missed while looking through the 4.21 patch notes?

No no, housing is still not unlocked. So that why I except it to be released in next gew weeks after some patch

Yeah it's different for everyone. That's why it would make sense to release it in different time on every data centre. For people that lives in Europe it's usually unlocked around noon

There are a lot of people that never will work playing this game 24/7 + it's a very popular thing in low quantity.

When Shirogane housing became available last year I took the day off and when the servers went live I rushed to the plot I wanted to buy and was able to buy it. 5 minutes later everything was gone.

For us working people we need to take the day off or it will be impossible.

It's always going to be a bad time for someone, however since it's a scheduled time, every time, you can plan for it. There's really no way to make everyone happy. If you make it move people will complain , if you have all different times people will complain.

I havn't seen a single patch (to my memory) that been available after 10AM GMT. But it also is different depends where you live.

I'm live in EU, I work 9-5 so i always miss out on patch opens.

Housing has always been something that's important to me so i've always took the day off on the patch days we know housing opens (SE never released housing without a pre announcement, usually week/s before patch).

If housing is important to you, regardless of you being a casual or someone who play this every day - you pretty much have to make real life preparations if you gonna have a shot at that plot you saved your hard earned gil for. Period.

If you really want a house you work for it, take a day off etc because that's what the rest do. If you don't then you're not up for a house that badly. Alsoo even if theey released wards and houses on the weekend or at evening for some imagine how much MORE people would rush online since not all take days off for ingame house. It would be even worse.

even if you do the patch at different time per datacenter, it won't work. Just for Europe, which time zone do you use as reference? GMT for UK to be up when they are out of work, but then it gets late for those on GMT+2 or more (Finland, Israel, west of Russia, etc...). Same with NA as there's 4 time zones for americans. and we're not even taking into account people that have different work shifts.

How would this even work?

There are players on the same server where the time gap can be 3+ or more hours. So releasing it in the morning could be too early and releasing it in the evening could be too late depending on the timezone.

Best thing would be to just state when they are releasing the housing and then people can adjust.

Exactly this ^ I did the same but was in a queue of over 1400 so still no house for me

you kinda cannot make them come out different times because EU players, SEA players and some JP players play on NA servers and vice versa, they'd all be expecting patch to go at there times for whats "good for them" which will cause havoc and drama. besides all patches start at a good time for them in JP anyway so its not like its going to change for us timewise

There's no way to make everyone happy. I work full time but housing is exceedingly important to me, so I took the day off for both the Shirogane 4.1 release as well as the additional housing ward additions in 4.2. If you want something, you need to be dedicated.

Being dedicated doesn't apply to housing, housing is a crapshoot which only a tiny percentage gets a win. I've been in as soon as the servers go up since the start of Stormblood housing and still haven't been able to get a plot in Shirogane. I got a medium plot in mist last week, all the medium and large plots in the new wards were sold in under 15 minutes and all of the smalls are still unoccupied, Shirogane was completely sold in under 10 minutes. If it wasn't for the upgrade only on the first week I wouldn't have had a shot at a larger house.
The only way to solve this is on my server is to make wards with only large and medium houses, otherwise we are full of small plots that sit empty for weeks at this point.

@ Nerfworthy Has nothing to do with it really. I also had taken holiday time for housing in Shirogane, logged in on time and ended up in a queue of over 1400 like i stated above and here i be how many years later since housing was introduced and still no house..

So to put things in perspective, say for example that SE decides to open up the servers around the same time they did today....

In Japan, servers come back up around the time people are coming home from work or school. If you ever wondered why daily reset time seemed somewhat random, it's because it's set to midnight in Japan (making it an actual daily thing).

In North America, reset time is anywhere from dead AM to really early morning, meaning that most NA players either pull an all-nighter or find some way of getting an early nap in just to log on when the servers come back up. Players in places like Brazil or places in Eastern Canada sitting on GMT-4 probably have it a bit nicer since they'd probably wake up around the same time the servers would.

European players I know have it the worst here since servers would come back up in the middle of the workday, meaning they'd have no choice but to take a day off to be there when the servers come back up. On the other hand, since I'm an American who plays on an EU server, cases like this can work to my advantage.

No matter how you change it up, someone's going to have a good time of it while most others are going to get shafted.

The argument "there is always somebody who is not going to have time": Ofc, there will be. But I guess most of the people playing have jobs or go to school. So instead of somebody not having time, it's almost everybody (My timezone is CET). And argument "if you want it, you will take a free day"... it's just not worth it to take free time to HAVE A CHANCE of obtaining a house

What you are essentially asking is for Maints to be done at separate times for different data centres, which requires far more work for them and sets some centres ahead of the others. You really think that's a good thing? Also what about the EU players on NA centres and vice versa? What about all the different time zones in the EU countries also? This just would not work at all, and would be stupid of them to try.

If housing isn't worth a tiny bit of time off even for a shot at them, then you should just let the people willing to fight for them continue to do so and stay out of it.

So then what do you want? You're still only going to have a chance at getting a plot even if they adjusted release times. In fact, I would think depending on your timezone it would lessen your chances. Now instead of competing against only the people who work at odd hours or took the day off (or is something like an NA player on an EU server), you're pretty much competing against he bulk of your server for a plot. Sounds like you're shooting yourself in the foot with this request.

Pretty much. I work overnights and the server comes back up at around 5 am my time, when I'm still 3-4 hours away from getting out. If I don't know a couple weeks ahead of time to request the day off, I'm screwed.

The only "fair" way is to make the housing stock separated into 24 batches and released every 1h in small chunks. But then again, those that have the time off and really care will have 24 chances, while the average folk will have only 3-4 at most.

Ultimately it's a game. A hobby at most. Treat it like any other hobby and do only that which your real life commitments allow.

It was 5:00 in the morning for me. Not everyone lives in the same time zone.

Whenever they decide to lift the dumb restriction, it better be the same time as always when they do regular maintenance. I already set my days off around the day Patches go live. Not only that, it's easier for others to plan ahead because they know exactly when to prepare.

It's done in those time slots as it's the middle of a work day in JP. Patch prep is likely done on Monday, the patch launching Tuesday morning, with a lityle time to spar to make sure it lands.

It's just that we're on the opposite side of the planet.
