Machinist class

Why didn’t they make MCH like Edgar from ff6 who can use chainsaws, drills, flashs, poison dispenser, debillitator etc. ? He was the original MCH. Why is the class a glorified cowboy? They could have made this class sooooooooo much better. Use a gunblade as main weapon with other tools I listed above as skills. Just asking what people’s thoughts are as I personally think this class should be a Gunner since that’s all they use

Why didn't they make the Samurai a heavy armored counter-attack tank?
Why did they give the Scholar a pet?
Why is the Dark knight not using his health to deal damage?

Because every FF universe is different and there are restriction lorewise and gameplay wise.
For instance, the job was created in Ishgard in FF14. They do not use Chainsaw and Drills. They're fighting dragons. When it comes to taking down a flying lizard, a gun is more suited than a chainsaw.
We don't acquire the job in Garlemald (or from someone working formerly working for them), we acquire it in a land where the only useful technology is a technology that kills dragon effectively.

My only disapointement with MCH is the lack of goodies. I was expecting a bit more interaction on the turret departments because the turret was highly advertised.

Perhaps in 6.0 they'll add your gunblade job with all your techno stuff.

They're actually kinda close to the Tactics incarnation. Or at least were before the Stormblood skill pruning. They could shoot specific body parts to cause certain disabilities. Like head shot (/graze) to silence, leg shot to immobilize etc.

We unfortunately interact with our turrets LESS in Stormblood.

It IS a pet, but it's not a pet. I wouldn't mind if there were a turret hotbar per se, but that would change the dynamic of the job a lot, and for something already drastically changed from what it started as, a third change probably wouldn't be well accepted, especially for a job that's struggled in popularity since inception.

As a different idea, I wouldn't be against more gadgetry (not chainsaws and drills and such, more techy than that), even if only in attack animations. Kinda like the current Heated Clean Shot.

Unfortunately for me, MCH is kind of stuck in its current niche of being ultra-focused on its burst window. Personally, it's my least favorite job in the entire game because of how utterly rigid its gameplay is, but it can't really be changed to alleviate that because it's not really fair to the people who LIKE that about it. Oh well, if we get a gunblade tank or something then I'll be one happy camper, but it's a shame that I like guns so much and they're tied to something I can't really enjoy in the slightest.

An Edgar based class would be quite awesome. That chainsaw was amazing, especially with Sigmascape, would bring back so many memories. While I agree the FF universes are all different. FFXIV pulls A TON from FFVI. Monk should also have their LB 3 be Phantom Rush.

I just think MCH should been more of a selfish DPS like SAM/BLM, instead of just being a bard wannabe.
With more investment in turrets and pseudo pet constructs.

We already had bard-only back in ARR and it was pretty terrible. Even now they both offer so much utility you are really gimping yourself to not have one or the other in your static group.

The answer is not to restrict utility to one (or a few) job(s). Either give them all a fair amount of utility to make each of them desirable for raiding, or get rid of all of utility so there's no reason to discriminate.

I completely agree :) i do respect that all FF worlds are different, however it would have been nice to see at least a couple items taken away from Edgar's toolkit and put into MCH. I love how much of 6 is in FF14, and since that game holds a very special place in my heart, i want to see even more of it.

PS. before Phantom Rush, it was called Bum Rush xD and it would be wild amazing crazy cool to see that incorporated into MNK

Now, I do like the job as it currently is mostly(Though I'm pretty sure I liked the HW incarnation better), but I do think that using a chainsaw at times as a gunner job would be really fun. I could do a great cosplay of Ash Williams from Army of Darkness. Hail to the King, baby!

Seriously though, I wouldn't complain about a chainsaw attack. I think it would be fun, or at least I always pick them as a weapon the rare times it's available, heh. Kind of like whips.

And a rifle more than a pistol. I'm not sure there's a single use for the aetherpack in dragon-hunting, and yet the much more applicable large-bore rifle was sacrificed to leave the other hand free...

I assumed it's where energy for the various gadgets came from, back when Grenade shot was a thing.

I imagine it powers the Flamethrower, Ricochet Shot, all the Heated shot variants, holds the pitch from Wildfire, etc.

I do hope more gadgets come as new abilities. Edgar was a mainstay in my FF6 team. He just made such a strong impression. "Who needs all magic when you got AUTO CROSSBOW!"

All this and we still don't have a beam yet. At least not outside that wonderful LB3.

Even the pirates have beams! Magitek bits have beams! Come on SE!

On the road to 80, it wouldn't be bad if we got a turret that offered a small defense boost within a radius for a short while, somewhat like the shield given by Estinien in the Aery's Nidhogg battle, only tech-based and temporary in that it "breaks" and is on CD for 120/180 sec. Or perhaps as our first "Smart" turret, a repurposed Allagan Node? "Mimic/Repeater" could be a nice skill where the node repeats the last weaponskill/ability used (within reason; say Gauss Round, Ricochet, or Flamethrower could be repeated, but Wildfire, Overload, or Dismantle could not be).

We technically already have that in the form of Dismantle. (ofc it's not exactly the same but I don't think stacking defensive utility would be useful, they're valued early but fall short later on)

The problem I have is that many of the useful things MCH do don't feel technoish at all.

For instance, instead of being a nearly invisible shot on the boss, it would have been nice that we throw we'd summon a small device (purely animation) that channels a red beam at the boss for teh duration of the debuff. Not only would it fit well with the whole gadget fantasy surrounding the job, but it would also add a nice visual to show you've actually done it (more than a debuff marker and a useless animation).

I think the same could be done for cross role skills. It would have been very cool if every job got a different animation (especially when there's only 2 jobs)

Like, Palicade refresh and tactician could also involve a small gadget animation (at least the current animation for the regen buff look good with the MCH, doesn't fit the Bard tho)

Palissade could again simply be a small device hovering the target channeling some kind of white screen (like the Protect animation)
Hypercharge could also receive some animation love. The turret is barely visible.

I hope they'll improve on this point because, the MCH isn't just a gunner, it's a Machinist, and so far I don't see many machine.
I just want the 3 future spell to involve (even if it's only an animation) the use of a device.

I think Edgar was actually the least interesting incarnation of a Machinist in Final Fantasy. His abilities were completely random, and lacked style. he didn't even LOOK like a Machinist.
Aesthetically, I love the Machinist in FFXIV. The problem is the garbage gameplay created by an excessive reliance on cooldowns and a sloppy, half-implemented Heat mechanic.
If the Machinist is missing anything aesthetically, it's explosives. Not nearly enough explosives.

I totally agree he didn’t look it, but I loved how his abilities added utility. They did seem random but really, a machinist was someone who worked with all types of technology....an engineer. Maybe that should be the next class? Engineer

Lolz I started replaying this and he’s totally OP’d I love it! I really would like to see a character job or class that is based from Edgar

....we need Air Anchor!!!!

Following the chess piece theme, Knights are known for their unique movements, so a moving melee turret? Could even draw aggro more than the other two for additional solo tanking utility.
That could be your chainsaw.

Explosives sounds good too.

Dude if MCH had things like Drills and chainsaws it would become more melee, that being said if it did I'd love it and likely consider it a real job. :D
