More companions

I wish we could have more companions than just our chocobos. Perhaps our Squadron members could come out, and fight with us, or maybe we could get some new birbs.

The way I could see it working is we can run around with four artificial party members. It could help new players get through lower level content, and maybe we'd even get to choose one to use in place of a Chocobo. The fun part of this is we could choose a role, and train an npc to do what we need out in the open world.

As for new birds, I could see a falcon, and a griffin. They make sense lorewise. The only problem I see is that they would have to make it so you could choose any of these when you need them. Obviously we don't want to lose our Chocobos. They are pretty important.

Maybe allow our horsebirds to have a glamour of different mounts? The squadron member idea is also good as well.

I honestly thought they would've added more companions by now. Even if it's just a skin on our chocobos it would be cool to have something different.

My bird has been rank 20 for a long time too. It would be nice to have another companion to level up instead of letting the exp hit the floor.

Like many 1.0 players I've long waited for the Path Companion to return... but I think at this stage now sadly that is a lost cause...

Instead, I can totally see the GC Squadron being expanded upon to be called out in the open world... but anything is possible I guess.

Why not our retainers?

Edit for clarity: You can already level up, customise, and pick the class of your retainer. With the recent addition of squadrons it could be possible to have a retainer share the AI of a squadron member and use it in place of a chocobo.

I'd prefer retainers cause I can change how they look. That way I can have an Ilberd companion who I can say "Sloppy" to every time they die during a FATE. :')

The tank achievement mounts?

I remember in an interview, Yoshi stated that they were intending to make the Magitek Armor the next companion after chocobos.

I do, or increase our chocobo max rank to 30.

It might encourage me to run a few fates or 2 rather than just do beast tribe quests with my chocobo.

I'd love to have one of my retainers running about with me! Also let me go past rank 20, I've been capped literally for years.

I'd want my main retainer to carry me in his strong arms in between fights on the field.

"To the Steppe!" I'm kidding though.

It would be nice though to have different compinions since it'd change things up!

Being able to glamour the Chocobo to look like one of the other mounts seems the best short term solution. Obviously the mounts that you can choose from for Glamour would be limited to things with life like Griffin, Wolves, Birds etc so no to Magitek or mecha-harambes, but it would make players want to use older mounts more... or so I hope. I barely use the ponies outside of ARR but they might look cool in combat environment perhaps, who knows. Aside from that glamour idea though, long term let's hope we have proper companions and not just the Chocobo.

I'd like my 'bo to stop using Choco Medica as its panic skill. I could unlearn it but he is max level in all skilltrees and it would be weird to miss that last one on the healer's.

Fixing that, I would be happy just with a new skin for him. Maybe for mounts or resized minions. I'd love to fight with my Syldra. Or a Mameshiba.

I think the GC squadron is perfect for this, or maybe the retainers. Adding a option to call them in the out world.

New companions would be nice, but I'm quite happy with my chocobo.

I just wish they'd do something to our existing chocobo companions.

Namely:
- dying bardings
- barding previews
- saving barding combinations (some of us like to mix and match)
- change barding set with macros or gearsets
- gambit-like system for AI
- more levels
- gyhsal greens to Key Items or Currency
- manual control of skills, like a pet's Obey

I would LOVE to make my dark panther a companion.

Gysahl green as key items: Good idea, I don't want to lose a slot for that in my inventory
Manual control skill: I don't know if I missed something, but you can set when you open your companion window and place free stance, healer stance, follow, etc

Manual control = I get to tell it when to use Choco Cure and I get to tell it where to go. Follow just means it doesn't attack. No matter what it's always following me around even when I'm trying to dodge a malboro breath and of course he gets it because he ends up following me right into it. I can't tell it "go here where it's safe you dummy".
