Curious what you see as a fun break/vacation from healing.
BLM all the way. class is broken and shitty in more ways than one, but it just brings that feeling of being unique, because nobody else has problems i do in the group=)
oh yes, also this comes from a retired SCH. although i been maining SCH since 2.x, i currently main SAM
RDM. It's not super demanding so I can be effective without investing a ton of play time. And hey, Verraise is great. When I don't want to wait on the queue or we need a tank, PLD.
...
I just said things that can heal, didn't I?
I've also enjoyed RDM the most apart from healing but there is certainly something satisfying about smashing things as a WAR.
Honorable mentions to BRD and NIN.
Paladin because, uh, they can also heal. Then redmage and summoners. Physicks spam for the win!
BRD because it's so heavily a support class, and then PLD. I haven't gotten into RDM much yet but I might like it. Depends.
I guess I'm in the same boat as Tridus, sort of. I look for classes that can heal or support their team a lot.
BRD and RDM.
I've leveled BLM, RDM, and BRD a bit but not close to 70. Tank job? Nooooooooo... too much pressure/knowledge of fights required
I don't take breaks from healing, its the only role I play and that I'm somewhat decent at. (which isn't really saying much x_x)
Meh, I don't find anything regarding tanking in any game fun. I suck at it and I hate it. I would play dps more in this game but I suck at that too, so I just stick to healing(specifically WHM, the other two healers seem a little too complicated for me). It's much easier for me.
Black Mage followed by Bard. When I get the chance to play any of these jobs I will gladly take it even if it means waiting for a queue.
I personally only heal when I am new to something for comfort or helping someone.
Summoner.
I have days where I consider just swapping to SMN full time, even attempted to for a bit in HW, but then those DPS queues happen and just slink right back into one of the healer jobs for a while instead. ^^;
DRG, because it's fun to show the perpetually-dead how it's done. Also NIN, but it's hard to play it with my latency. I probably play WAR the most though because nobody likes to tank and Au Ra look amazing in tank gear (also, if you spam /vpose it looks like you're playing air guitar, so that's cool too).
I've always been partial to melee classes in every game. But I get bored playing a DPS role in raids because it's repetitive. The healing experience changes over the course of progression and farm so I'm constantly changing my routine, keeps things fun.
RDM when I want to relax. Absolutely never ever tanking, I hate it.
I never really do any other job than healing. But I do always level casting in every expansion for the titles >.>'
I have no major alternatives - I just play whatever takes my fancy, and when bored or waiting for weekly reset, consider levelling something else. The most played non-Healer I have at the moment is WAR. If signing up as WHM (main) isn't shortening the queue enough, I'll grab my axe for instant-queue and the joy of Cyclone/Decimate spam.
BRD - Was actually fun to level once you get out of ARR, and there's something to be said about having utility/support function tied to respectable DPS, rather than just being a respectable (selfish) DPS. I've pretty much dropped MNK in favour of BRD, though now that I've levelled a DRG to 68, I'm starting to get back into the melee-DPS vibe.
MNK - Enjoyed it in the past but... Meh, while it may have been cute knowing I'd have to be positioning myself 24/7 to get max benefit, there are a lot of times I'd much rather play something a little more static/little less hectic.
DRG - I've not done any hard research yet but I find myself doing solid deeps in the 60+ range. Impressive AoE and the ability to leap around like a lunatic has its merits. I've yet to face-tank the floor after a dodgy leap but I suspect it'll happen eventually. Quite liking it, though unsure if it'll topple BRD from my favoured deeps-list just yet.
What's next?
Well, I might try RDM - I often take 'undemanding' as a bad sign, yet that'd be hypocritical of me to say due to above-mentioned annoyance of MNK positionals these days, mostly because True North is a CD and most content (even casual) involves tanks farting about, avoiding mechanics, or just tanking things in fires because screw positional deeps.
I'm really not liking SCH and I hear AST has the lowest damage of the three. I think I may have spoiled myself by enjoying all content types as a WHM before even revisiting the other two classes, so I'll stick to my WHM+WAR+(whatever DPS gains my favour) as a personal trinity.
I started out as a tank, and from doing so, I really enjoyed melee combat. Still love healing more than anything else, hence why I became a healer main. But when I don't heal, I like playing WAR and SAM.
Side note, another reason I like being a healer main, is because people are legitimately shocked when they see a male Roe healer in their duties ;3
Paladin and Blackmage.
But it can happen that I'll play the others jobs too because I like them all.
NIN if i want to play DPS, very engaging and somehow i am able to retain the "algebraic" rotation knowledge. Plus, bunny summon has always been a show-stealer for me. Nin always has something it can do at any given point it time.
PLD if i want to play tank, it is "easy" to pick up and put down and none of its mechanics are overly complicated to the point that i feel i need a warm up or something like that. Additionally people are less likely to grief a PLD (or even notice) if they mess up a mechanic during battle.
Or i just swap to another healer, seeing as how I play all 3, and will play a 4th if one ever comes out.
PLD, because I hate long DPS queues.
Red mage, so I can still part time heal. /s
But yes, jokes aside, I quite like magic-wielding classes, so when I don't feel like healing I try rdm/blm. Currently trying to learn summoner as well. :)
To make it as simple as possible to explain;
The core difference is aetherflow usage builds a unique gauge. It's not like tacked on faerie gauge that's just there and your aetherflows are your big heals, Aetherflows are your DPS bursts.
You build up to a big buff mode called Dreadwyrm Trance that makes your Ruin spam more powerful and faster, and then you perform the process a second time that turns your pet into a Demi-Bahamut that does his own bursty hits for everything you do.
If you can play SCH and balance the Faerie pet skills and manage Aetherflows, you can absolutely swap to SMN as a DPS class option. The complexity is the same, it's just different skills from just being a DPS instead of a healer and that unique DWT mechanic.
Personally when I get tired of healing but still want to take on a supporting role I tend to use Red Mage. Bard has some support, but since it’s 90% off-gcd it doesn’t really feel the same as having to make an active decision to support the party in the heat of combat (since you can do it while dealing damage seamlessly)
I was levelling MNK back in 2014 when I quit and quite enjoying it, now I was thinking of doing it again but you say it's kinda discouraging. It's already annoying that while levelling tanks don't know how to stand still and keeping spinning and screwing your positionals, I assumed later it would be better but from what you say....meh :(
Black Mage or Dark Knight :) I generally enjoy healing the most, then tanking, then dps. :)
Positionals are a thing you genuinely would never learn about unless you study the melee jobs, and it really doesn't help when you can still perform without them.
Since most people don't speak up out of fear of a tank bitching at them, just say, "Hey, could you hold the mobs still? I get damage bonuses if I hit stuff on certain sides."
I had a level 70 healer bud leveling tank, and he had 0 idea positionals were a mechanic after getting two jobs leveled.
I was actually a BLM main until level 66 MSQ...and then took a break and went hardcore WHM from 1-70. Since then I've done probably over 90% of dungeons, raids, and roulettes as a healer, and I've gotten so used to it I'm not sure whether I'm maining a healer or DPS now. So I guess my fav job when not healing is BLM if I'm counting myself a healer main?
Bard is my main but i Play Holy---- i mean Whitemage more often because queue times are just way faster.
Except i queue with a friend that mains sch and goes PLD from time to time or something.
But i Love bard
but i also love Holy--- i mean Whitemage and i feel like i'm doing better on whm than on Brd.
Welp
I was BRD main until I tried holy, I mean WHM.
I'm still playing BRD at times when I'm not hol- healing!
Scholar, Eos is the real healer, I'm just her support.
I play Black & White Mage in roughly equal measure, occasionally Bard or Machinist too. I just like to blow things up from a distance D:
used to be SMN but now RDM is my go-to. I love how mobile it is. and gosh vercure. I regularly level up my choco and vercure is a godsend when soloing FATEs.
Summoner. Granted, that's the only other job I have that's currently at level 70 other than my healer. I'm looking to either try Red Mage, or go down the Bard route, though. I also love the aesthetic of the book, is another reason I love SMN. ♥
I feel this way as well. The book just seems so... mage-y. I actually quit WHM while leveling SB due to a bad run of DF parties in Bardam's Meddle. My SMN is actually slightly better geared than my WHM now. I tend to take my SMN into new content so when I fail in epic fashion, it's just me instead of the whole party wiping.
BLM and DRK!
Sometime I go DRG but I must be 10th percentile with it xD
I play Monk when I'm not playing scholar. Nothing more fun than beating up things with style, especially stylin' on it's face with Tornado Kick/Leaf Hurricane, Forbidden Chakra/Dragon Fist, Elixir Field/Kamehameha, and Howling Fist/Ground Viper. (can you tell I'm a weeab? =^=) I tried tanking one time...as a DRK...in POTD with friends...I was HORRID.....
According to my DRK friend/FC lead, I was 1 space above an acquaintance who "tanked with words"....
NIN is my favorite job outside of healing. I love the mudras and how fast-paced it is. Running fast is also great, and flips when you jump. What's not to love?
