Just how much stuff are they planning on squishing onto that micro-menu? And more importantly, if this is a limited item, is everyone going to see that horn and never be able to use it? Awful idea.

Oh god here we go...
Another person without a 50 bitching and complaining.
Also, the limited item may only be available until 2.0 comes out, at which time they are completely redoing the UI. I don't think it is much to worry about at the moment.
the UI pre 2.0 is static but the new client should allow for customization.. so just chill out level 36 conj and think of all the content that you still get to do and have it be new, while I get my goobue and enjoy my first taste of newness in 3 weeks. sweet sweet content.
Is the level of someone's highest job really tantamount to their ability to think? I thought the Chocobo icon was in the micro-menu before I got mine. Chill out guys. <_<;
Even still my other point held until someone mentioned the UI redesign. I just don't want to see the micro-menu that I almost never use growing halfway across the bottom of the screen. I'd prefer it stay "micro." I really don't think I need to be level 50 to have that opinion or preference.
I love how higher level = higher relevance on these forums. But yeah, this shouldn't be a problem with the UI redesign.
Who knows it? Anyways, you can expect changes now and then until we get something similar to the v2.0 one:
In 2.0 the mini icon menu is changing therefore there will be more room for these things. People playing at 2.0 won't have two whistles, they'll have one.
And now a days its so easy to get a 50, that I think people with lower level characters linked have a 50 and just linked to that for their own reasons. You have to try hard to not hit 50 now haha
You will only see the horn if you have the mount, obviously
I do think the micro menu is getting a bit out of control though. We will see.
I was referring to a change in the new UI, not a change in the ability to call your mount. The menu used to call your mount of choice will likely change with the new UI.Quote:

Btw: woohoo goobues!!!!
I predict next micro menu icon will be toggle chocobo and crafting music on and off. They keep caving into these stupid requests on the forums. Im all for details in options and customization but i think these things should not be top priority like they seem to be getting.
Where will it end?
I would guess here:

He is concerned about UI clutter in an already cluttered micro menu. A completely valid point. He was misinformed about the part where he didn't know that if you don't have access to the item the micro menu option won't be visible, but otherwise I am worried about this:
For the love of -
What game is that?
Well played pico, well played.
For one thing, I don't really remember asking for a free mount. I'll probably rarely use it, versus a Chocobo anyway. If you happen to like the expansion of the micro-menu, you're more than welcome to tell us why you like buttons cluttering your screen.
For that matter, I don't believe I've ever met you, or even posted in the same thread as you. So please, try not to accuse me personally of "always hav[ing] to find something to whine about." :)
EDIT: And while I get that 2.0 will have a complete redesign of the UI, we still have to play with 1.xx until then. I hate to fall back on the "we're paying now," so I'll just say that I don't think it would've been such a horrendous idea to make us use an actual item (the horn) to summon--as the above quote says--"a free limited vanity mount."
For starters, I'm sure you're intelligent enough to know I'm talking about this whiny community in general, so no I do not know you. Secondly, not asking for a free mount has nothing to do with anything, and thirdly the micro menu isn't even that bad to warrant crying about 1 extra icon. As you can easily see in the screenshot, that menu isn't bad at all. Even if they added more, still wouldn't warrant the crying you're doing. I'd take this over having a bunch of icons all over my screen for my mounts like similar mmos have done, those clutter your screen.http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r...0_34_769-1.png
I don't even use it for chocobo as I bound that to shift-c. But one or even ten more icon in the menu isn't going to break the game for me in 1.xx.
Many people do prefer a minimal UI so hopefully that will be an option in the future.
I don't know about anyone else but I am planning on using my programming background for good and hopefully write some addons that will alleviate frustration and enhance enjoyment.
I didn't mean to come across as "It's the end of the world!" but I think my underlying sentiment is that we're working toward the clutter you're describing with other MMOs. No, we don't have a bunch of mounts yet, so there aren't a bunch of buttons. But there's not even a clear advantage to the Goobbue mount--it's not like "I'm going to use my Goobbue to wade through the water," then you dismount him, and "Now I'll use my Chocobo to battle!" If there were a reason that we'd need both the Goobbue AND Chocobo for moving around, then I wouldn't care to have a dedicated button. But the Goobbue is unnecessary and more-or-less a novelty item. Is every event item we get (before 2.0, so no one has to remind me that the UI will change) going to get its own micro-menu icon?
Okay, so that's overdone, maybe. The Goobbue mount will probably be much better than most other event items, but IMHO I don't need a permanent Goobbue button that I can't remove.
All, good :) No hard feelings dude, I don't want my screen turned into a small visible box eventually either.
Why exactly do we need to be 50 to have an opinion? Also, people reroll all the time. This character that is now linked to my profile is a reroll. I have actually played regularly since beta. So the truth is, as evidenced by your brilliant statement, you have no idea wtf your talking about, and seem to make broad generalizations and assumptions in order to hide your mental ineptitude. Bravo sir.
As for the OP, it seems worse now than it will be if 2.0 is a success. Then it will be a very small percentage (ideally) of the population that has these. I think that was the idea anyway. Whether that pans out or not, we shall see. Garbage that it came with ZERO content or story really in order to obtain it.
It's a tiny menu... That can be moved to wherever you please...
it currently fits just fine, the interface is changing immensely in 2.0, and its going to be customizable, whats the problem?
Truth to be told, MY screen is horribly cluttered between the action bar, statuses bar, enemy health display, chat log, minimap, party health and, in some instances, the leve status. I also believe I play on somewhat lower resolution than most people here (I think it takes like 80% of my 1094x86something screen)
So yah, the micromenu is a great idea, but it's starting to get kind of huge D: It does looks like the whole UI will be more streamlined in 2.0 so I hope thye can reduce the clutter
See the bolded part. I know it'll be fixed with 2.0. I don't care about the Goobbue icon. I care about the precedent of putting vanity items (that will probably rarely be used after Chocobo armor) on my micro menu, which UNTIL 2.0, I can't customize.
If you take a look at the post 2.0 UI plan pic, it does look rather busy does it not? But I do think there is a choice to have less clutter than that. Even now I take minimal items to my interface and just click explore to get to stuff I could have shortcutted by cluttering my screen up but to me, open game screen is a big deal since I'm easily distracted by shinys. :P
That cannot be customized if additional elements are added to it.
A "tiny" menu with a row of icons that spans 200+ pixels wide (and is gradually becoming longer) is not a "tiny" menu. I'd like to be given the option to enable/disable elements of that micro menu somehow, much like the toolbar in your browser. But they have far more pressing things to do at this point, and I don't blame them for it.
