I'm probably the only one...

I miss being able to die from falling... that moment you slip off a cliff and verbally let slip an expletive as you cringe at your stupid fate... I'm not talking about the forced falling in dungeons (which is getting silly)... too often it doesn't feel like the world is dangerous as it should be...

It isnt dangerous, they tried changing this in Heavensward by making mobs have more HP then normal, but it still has not changed anything. I dont think fall damage will improve much, they need to release mobs that are hard to kill and will target the player. Afcourse some might dislike, hence why SE is probably playing it safe.

Did they remove it? Cause I have definitely died from falling recently (in like the last month). It was a pretty huge fall tbh, whereas some big-but-not-huge falls only got me down to 1 hp.

You can die of fall damage if you are aggroed by an enemy.
I remember the one time i fought that A rank mammoth near falcons next.He charged me off a cliff and i died to fall damage XD

You can still die from fall damage, but they did remove it from certain dungeons (sohm al, hull breaker off the top of my head.) outside of dungeons basically if you are unengaged you will always land with at least 1 HP, but if an enemy is on your aggro list, you die.

There was a spot in the Sea of Clouds where you could die from falling. It was has since been fixed though.

Personally I like that I don't die because that would feel like double punishment for me.

Why 'double'? I have an extreme (very extreme) fear of heights and just watching myself fall in a game gives me vertigo. Having to suffer that AND dying would just be awful.

Obviously that wouldn't be for most people though.

That aside, you can still very much die from fall damage under the correct circumstances, as others have already mentioned. As a tool to make the world feel more dangerous, it's a weak one. A more involved and treacherous overworld needs a lot more than accidental insta-kill or gravity debuff on mounts and at this point the devs seem to care very little about making anything feel truly dangerous. At best we get extremely minor inconveniences

Adding dying from fall damage doesn't do anything though? Monsters still leash after a certain distance. If you die it just sets you back a couple minutes. All it would do is make you go around and waste more of your time for no reason. It's the same as the heavy you get when you get hit while mounted. All it does it slow you down for a bit, you're still going to get to where you were going, just slightly later with mostly no chance of death.

Because let's be honest here.

It was one of those things you had to be careful of when exploring... tho exploring kinda died when they automatically revealed the whole map when you entered a zone...

this is partially not true. If you click on the map and press triangle (ps4) it will reveal the whole map to you but in less detail than the map you unlock as you explore.

I just do not like that I basically have free reign over the zones. Nothing can stop me unless i aggro an S rank and even then u can outrun them. The beastmen areas have mobs that inflict heavy, but again, u can outrun.

I would like them to change this. Years ago, i cant find the thread anymore, I had an idea that the huntboard list should not just have the random enemies on it, but should have patrolling mobs (actual mobs, not single enemies) that WILL kill you if they aren't dealt with by at least 2-3 players. So if you need to do a quest in a zone, or are fate grinding, etc etc, you should check the hunt board first to see if they have been dealt with. There should be at least 2 sets of these patrolling mobs per zone. This would solve alot of issues, imo.

I died from a fall last night, in the Lochs. Fell off up near the tomb area. I can't recall whether I was aggro'd at the time (Anila area) though.

Surprised the heck out of me because indeed, I'd thought death from falling was no longer a thing.

Maybe an Anila had just aero'd me... Hmm...

I’m not afraid of heights, but long drops in this game make me feel nauseous. Every time.

I assume it’s something to do with how the camera follows you as you fall?

I found out that the maximum fall damage is your max HP -1. You can die if aggroed, but can die if you fall off a cliff without full HP (for example, if you were aggroed BEFORE falling).

It would be nice if invisible walls weren't so plentiful to be honest. It makes getting down from places (I'm looking at you Onokoro) a bit of a pain.
Let me jump off of Anyx Trine for the novelty of it, dammit.

I'd definitely like to see more environmental threats. It's one of the things I miss from WoW - even if they were sometimes little more than a novelty. It was fun to wander into a tornado and be swept into the air and thrown back down again. In FFXIV, it could even be tied to a jumping puzzle where you have to land in a specific spot in order to open a treasure chest and get a reward.

No thank you. You can make it dangerous for yourself if you want to by wearing sub-par gear or going naked. The option is there.
