Couldn't you just make it so Grease Lightning just upgrades like Stone 1 > Stone 2 does? That way you can get GL 3 on your first Snap Punch, Demolish or Rock Breaker.

Or you could use Perfect Balance?
Or some skill
Way to OP. Perfect Balance. Snap punch- Tornado Kick- Snap punch- Tornado Kick over n over lol
^ Pretty sure Tornado Kick has a cooldown, so that wouldn't even work.
Why have greased lightning 3 if you get it with 1 action anyway? Why have greased lightning when you can just increase all potency. Why have different classes?
Okay.
If you end up removing the style that defines a class, just to "balance" it closer to the other classes, you end up having basically the same classes. That would be real balance, but would be boring asfck.
Monks have to keep stacks up for as long as I can remember, if you take that identity away from them, it will be just like any other buff like heavy thrust, hot shot, storms eye or straight shot etc. .
They already lowered the buff of heavy thrust and increased all potency of drg skills some patches earlier to compensate, they could also just remove it and just have potency increases again. Keeping stacks up efficiently means you can play smart, take that away and you can play casual with same result. What do we want?
My original intent was to make MNK less punishing for loosing GL when bosses go invulnerable. My original idea and one I still wish they would do instead of making MNK more complicated with this whole Riddle of Wind nonsense, is to have Form Shift keep your GL stacks going but not give them or increase them.
Greased Lightning could use a small buff, in either getting stacks or duration...
16s tends to end any time a boss does mechanics.
Maybe taking the duration up to 24 or even 30 would really help monks keep it up and not lose a bunch of DPS because of not having anything to attack...
Depending on how far into the fight you are, you will not have Perfect Balance if youre doing a proper Monk Opener. Perfect balance is a 180 second CD for that ability, and Bosses tend to 'leave combat' within that time frame at some point in time during a lot of fights. So you wont have it 'ready' usually.
As for getting it back, as a monk mid fight with no PB, yes you use Tornado kick to drop stacks IF there is no outgoing unavoidable AoE damage during the boss's away time. If there is, you use RoE to refresh GL stacks. If not, use Tornado Kick. In either case, you should be stance changing in the mean while so you can open immediately with Demo, and then go into getting your buffs back up.
My personal nitpick with GL though is that its a mechanic that takes consideration, along iwth all the other oGCDs monks get, and positionals, and managing chakra. Monk has (IMO) a lot of shit it needs to manage, and it could use to be streamlined a slight touch, depending on how they intend to focus it. But thats my own feelings, so take that with a grain of salt.
Quick note for RoW: Most likely what theyll want you to do is during drop offs when you need to get back GL, Theyll want you to use RoW, Demo, RoW, Standard rotation> as a means of getting back into things. Where RoW will be used to immediately re-engage, and get the third GL stack. Youre still going to need to stance change to prep the re-engagement, but this change is to deal with GL falling off when you have no PB. GL fall off is a huge hit to monk dps currently. So getting it back in about 1ish GCD is going to be fairly big. Not to mention that technically you could turn Dragon kick into an offensive ability if getting back GL stacks is extremely quick. Sufficite to say, youre going to see monk most likey dealing a lot more damage. But we'll see how the changes exactly play out.
They're about to roll out some significant buffs for MNK and people like OP still manage to complain about the class being too difficult. If you don't think you'll be able to handle changing to wind stance to get GL quickly at the beginning of fights and after phase changes then you're better off sticking with a class that is already as braindead-easy as you want MNK to be.
they will do that on 4.2
first they will reduce perfect balance cd from 3 minutes to warever time they decide(probably 120s) and second they will make wind tackle or riddle of wind(one or both, not clear because of diference betweem translations) give a gl stack
My complaint isn't that MNK is hard to play. IMO MNK is the easiest melee to play. My compliant is that the job is built around self sustained buffs like GL. But instead of the devs going "Let's make it so they don't loose GL as easy" they say "well you're going to loose GL anyway so here is something to make you loose it early."
