*Stable not stake. My phone won't let me edit :s
Zoom in :)
I do, and I move the camera angle to overhead. I also move onto the plot I want to water, it's just less time consuming. I just wish it was an easy grid :p
click click click
PC wins again lol
I've never had this problem on ps4 and I used to garden A LOT. Was super easy for me, I would do what the other people have suggested. Or use mouse mode to make it easier for you?
For real though playing on pc then trying on ps4 is like a whole different game took me some minutes to figure out the dumb process and buttons you have to push to fire cannons.
Off course its different :D
that doesnt mean that either is better or worse then the other one
Its all about what you are used too, you can water the plots using controller but its a semi pain to keep track of which ones you did already since there indeed seems to be no logic to what plot the targeting selects next. I usually grab my mouse for watering these days.
Same goes for combat and cannons i guess.
My opinion they should redo the interface for garden beds. Instead of an interact target for each individual crop, it's just one interact target for the whole lot. Clicking this pops a settings window like the one for aquariums where you can plant all of the crops then confirm all together. Also buttons for water all, fertilise all. If it's too much stress on the servers to water 8 plants at once then just put a brief progress bar on the process after the user confirms so it's still effectively watering them one by one but without needing user input each time.
I water alot of gardens on ps4, and its super easy. Just face the plot and the rows. Its all about character position and how they face. Only thing is minions yes, will sometimes get in the way. feritlizing is super easy, just spam x after plant selection and you never have to use d-pad except for switching which plant. I can fertilize all 8 in a deluxe in about 10.5-11.5 seconds. water tending is a little longer.
Couldn't be further from the truth. it selects what you're facing, and then goes in order from there. should be able to start at bottom right, then go up and down the rows in order, done it hundreds of times, its always in order. Again, it goes based of your character like any other targeting in the game.should be able to dpad all plants in order.
I can confirm that it does, in fact, go in order--but that the "order" includes all selectable items, even those which are not actually visible to the player and not prioritizing proximity. I have an absolutely hilarious video clip saved somewhere of my character perfectly facing a row of plants with no other clickable objects in my actual view... Only to d-pad and end up targeted to the garden plots of a distant neighboring home, behind two different walls and not even on level with my house's garden.
The only way I've ever been able to even remotely make watering plots close to painless on a PS4 was to angle the camera completely top-down to absolutely block out anything and everything else that might be clickable, and even then, unless you actively move either character or camera to face each desired row of plants individually, it's entirely possible that you will target the plant in the back rather than the one directly in front of your character. It's laughably bad compared to just clicking with a mouse.
So I just force FC mates/tenants on PC to water my plants for me. Problem solved!
The opposite effect is always fun too - trying to look at someone I’m talking to while standing outside the FC house.... only to target half of our 24-spot garden bed before I can get to them.
Use a touch pad on a controller or use virtual mouse with L1 + R3/L3 if i remember
People still act like playing this game or doing anything on a console/with a controller is so unbearable, when SE's gone to greater lengths than most other games/devs to support controller use, and provide options even with.
The hardest part is not laughing at how absurd that is.
If you're still having issues while zoomed in, then you have too many objects around the garden plot that you can interact with. I suggest moving these objects, or the plot itself to a location that is more user friendly.
Minions and pets also make things annoying so just dismiss them while tending.
They did do an amazing job on the gamepad interface / cross hotbar. For some people that consideration is a major reason why this mmo stands above the rest.
Still there's a little more room for refinement in certain areas... I remember the 2006 adventure game Dreamfall had a feature to project a line in front of your character so you can see exactly what interactive item you're lined up with, which I think is a nifty idea.

Whenever I do any gardening I simply switch to first person view, so much easier than third person view.
I think that is a cool idea...
I play on PC with a controller... I actually find it pretty easy to water my plants with a controller, I also switch to first person mode and then I select one of the corners and just do it counter clock wise. A menu based option would be better though, as individually selecting the plots is tedious
lol I think this is probably a bad suggestion but SE loves to use these AoE items for some reason... they could have a watering can item that produces a watering AOE that you target the square with.
Kept doing what you’re already doing.
You’ll get used to it.
I zoom a little, then just go near the plot and press X, so it can target the nearest object!
When I'm done watering that one, I move to the next and press X again.
Garden plots seem to have a higher range on the distance you can target them from, but yeah if you found yourself targeting a plot in another yard, it was technically in your actual view or to be more fair, the camera's view. That being said, can you even do stuff to other people's gardens that aren't part of your FC? If not, they should remove the option to target other gardens entirely
KB / mouse is objectively superior from a control standpoint for more or less any first-person title, or third-person titles that benefit from / feature an independently positioned camera. There's not really a "two sides" to this one unless one factors in non-control elements like comfort (playing from the couch). Similarly, in reverse fashion, games with fewer axes of movement (racing titles, platformers, etc.) are better experiences on a gamepad rather than a KB / mouse.
That doesn't mean other forms of control don't work, or aren't effective. Case in point, SE has done a tremendous job making FFXIV quite playable with a gamepad (and FFXI before it). It also doesn't mean someone used to a gamepad can seamlessly transition to a KB / mouse and instantly control the game better. But there is a "better" and "worse" at play from a precision and effectiveness viewpoint.
Nope, because PS4 has the touch pad which I can also click click click, too. That is how I highlight when I want to select a person to click on in the sea of people during hunts or raids when I see a cool glamour piece and want to see what it is. It works the same for gardening or anything that requires selecting amongst a bunch of clickable objects.
It would be dandy if they just had a "Water/fertlize all plants" option.
I found zooming out to be better. Then using the touch pad to just work my way round the plot. Takes no longer than using a mouse to push the cursor up on the pad then right then down etc and work round the plot. Zooming in meant there was always 1 or 2 hidden behind the scarecrow/post. It's not hard.
Its really easy to target those plants. Just stand infront of the plant you want to tend to and make sure youre facing it and press X (DS4). Dont use Dpad for targeting. If you missed, just press O, reposition and press X again!
Yeah, my point was that the camera's view, in this case, is definitely not aligned with the player's view. Some housing objects can be targeted through, for example, leading to numerous cases where it seems as if there is nothing selectable on the player's screen, yet d-pad targeting will find things the player can't see because of certain walls/other objects obscuring player's view but not camera's, etc. Furthermore, the lack of proximity sensing on the d-pad targeting (and I believe also the tab targeting on PC?) is pretty crazy sometimes. Ending up targeting something half-way across the screen over something less than an "inch" from your character simply because the thing in the distance was one more pixel to the screen's left is quite annoying.
I believe you can water other people's plants, but not harvest them? Not 100% on this though; every house around mine has gardening plots--but no one ever actually gardens. XD
