what on earth is this? 2-3% drop rate? You're banging trees for an hour and lucky to get 3.
It might surprise SE to know my time doesn't also grow on trees. There's a point when things get plain ridiculous.

This ^^^
I never farm seeds, or soils, or anything that isn't on a timed node for the most part. Its easier to just send my retainers out every 40 mins and get a stockpile of whatever it is I need. Now with stacks going to 999, its a great day to have retainers. My retainers aren't doing anything else so may as well get them on something that's useful.
Retainers are a great option, but it's really, really weird to me that the ARR seeds like almonds are so hard to get. It took me 2 hours to get a single Wild Onion Set harvested to complete my botany log.
If you are a high enough gather 63+ you can get the seeds pretty easily. Use leaf turnIII and then after your third HQ gather use luck of the pioneer. It will reveal the hidden item, maps/seeds/etc. So every time you get 300 Gp you can get a seed.
Oh, I forgot about Leaf Turn 3. I haven't tried to gather seeds since SB dropped lol.
I do have retainers get them, but that's one per hour. The seed collect rate on these low level nodes is worse than timed nodes. I didn't know luck of the pioneer would show up a random though, I always assumed it just wasn't there. Will try that out.
You also don't need to "bang the trees" so to speak. Just check the node. If it's not there, move on to the next. They reset without having to deplete them.
glad to say luck of the pioneer works like a treat :) I'd always figured that was for the 50+ nodes, not the old low level ones.
Had no idea the nodes reset without hitting them though, that's news to me as well.
Unspoiled Nodes have their own rules. BUT, for the rest of them :
There are FOUR sets. They are either all regular nodes (single or pair), OR one set is the Ephemeral node.
Touching (moving to and accessing, doing anything else not required) the third set causes the first set to respawn. This is why you can go to an Ephemeral node, and to get it to repopulate, simply run and touch two of the other three nodes in the area, and touching the Ephemeral gets the first other one you touched to repop.
I never harvest almond seeds, or any of the 2.x seeds. Takes too long, and I can harvest stuff that sells. I grow almond seeds.
Darnit, link doesn't work. go here and search almond http://www.ffxivgardening.com/index.php
I disagree. Growing them takes 5 days, I would rather be growing expensive stuff. I can get 4-5 in 10-20 minutes of gathering, instead of waiting 5 days, plus wasting the soil to grow for them. Keeping enough soil is always the hardest challenge, having enough seeds shouldnt be. At least with Almond you can get multiple per hour and your'e somewhat in control as opposed to Dzamzael Tomatoe and Prickly Pineapple.
yes, growing them is even more expensive and time consuming. You can get 8 in around 15 minutes using luck of the pioneer (assuming 600+ GP and a few cordials), and that's me happy :)
I manage 9 gardens with all profits going to my FC. I am end game crafter and gatherer. So my circumstances are not average.
I will gather elemental seeds if ever needed and the 3.0 seeds. But I devote enough time to the FC with garden maintenance and crop planing to bother with the one at a time 2.0 seeds.
Others have different economics and priorities.
This Luck of the Pioneer isn't a 100% sure fired way at an Almond Seed, right?
I've just used it 4 times and it never revealed the Almond Seeds. It'll reveal the map, however.
I just went and tested it and it worked perfectly for me. I got the almond seeds, then my map, which I gathered, and after that, nothing but seeds. It has to show something and the only two options are map and seeds, so take the map out of the equation.
TLDR gather your map before you start gathering seeds.
I am glad that technique is making it easier for you guys. :)
Exactly...better. Intersectting any seed that can be gathered is a complete waste of time and gil. Interseccting to get an almond seed is exponentially more time than going to gather a few, timewise, and soilwise. 2.o seeds are just as lucrative as any, both prickly pineapple can dzamzael tomato can be used to cross very expensive seeds. Tomatoes can be crossed with dalamud popoto to get chive seeds which I have been selling for months at 100-250k a pop, and also using with glazenuts seeds to cross to blood pepper seeds, which can be sold as seed or the peper itself for anywhere from 100-250k over last few months. How to get glazenut, another 2.0 seed I mentioned crosses with old world fig which you can get pretty much an unlimited amount of gathering multiples per node. My dad and I make a 3-5 million a week gardeing with 7 beds. heck, even buying the almond seeds would be money ahead of interseccting to get to them. But mathematically, according to last 6 months, the only things worth selling and growing are blood pepper seeds, chive, and glazenut, maybe some than onions too, if you're growing anything else, you're leaving gil on the table.
I actively garden, so highly used seeds for crosses like almond seeds I always keep stock in multiples of five. I have access to three gardens, so I always keep x15 on hand and use me BTN retainer to replenish when I use them up until I have x15 again. The reason I keep in multiples of five is because it is usually the seed I sacrifice to get a full set of cross chances going.
Almond seeds are definitely worth using up an inventory slot. I've seen the damn things go up to 35k a packet on my server.
Oh, and if you think those are bad. Give mandrakes a try :p
I got 3 seeds in 6 nodes when getting the lumber to unlock submarines yesterday. Lucky RNG or it was changed?
This^! I had thought it was a useless action.
I have 20-some gardens going, 8 of which I tend and the rest I pay people (after a thorough cross-breeding lesson) to plant and tend. I do mostly Thav. Onions, so I have a high need for almonds and mandrake, since I supply all my growers with soil and seed. Those used to be a pain to get, usually just buying them, sometimes at ridiculous prices, till I read this. After smacking myself on the head, I went and collected a ton of both. A little time consuming, but a 100% chance at getting them, less the stupid midland basil. Thanks so much!
