They were occupied as far as Thanalan by Garlean forces and one could say that both sides in that conflict lost pretty handily to the Lambs of Dalamud when Bahamut was unleashed.

Could be argued war didn't end, just had a ceasefire in place. Similar to situation with North Korea for half a century.

technically the war never did really happend each time it's really about to start something did come out interrupt it...
first time was midgarsorm.
second time was bahamut.
plus right now the empire is loosing ground since we did retake part of the land they have take with them attack.


it was something to be expected since the empire did grow too much in one generation, it was impossible for him to continue on this way, but honestly, the loose of the empire is them fault and no one else, they have enough troops for conquer the continent with ease, while loosing ground they didn't send a second legion for counter the attack of the alliance. it's a bad move from the empire side, they was over confident and instead to crush the rebellion by sending another legion for help, they did think they will win easily.

honestly from a simple neutral stand point, i don't even see how we can win since we don't even have battle airship for fight them flying army... plus they have heavy armored unit with magicrobot.... even if the alliance have strong soldier... i don't understand how we can win against an army that have clearly the technological ascendency that it, by the way, my main grips with the story, how explain that our country that have not the 1/4 of the technology and 1/10 of them army can win against the empire. it make not freaking sense.

i will make a parallele here, while the world war 2, the french resistance (and i'm french by the way), have fight with only a few gun and explosive against an army that had invaded them territory, even if the resistance have deal a lot of damage to the nazi... they was not able to free the country with the help of the usa, england, canada and such.... and the army of the alliance is in my eyes at the same level than the resistance... them cannon are not movible enough for fight flying unit and it's really the major trouble... in the states of the war, it's impossible for eorzea to win the war.

regarding that screenshot from coerthas - Camp Dragonhead is also completely unprotected from the west-side. there are walls around, but not in the west, and you can simply walk inside with your army...
