Any Sushi recipes for Culinarians?

Hi all, hope you can help.

I was asked by someone to make a particular dish, but unable to find the recipe in my crafting logs, or on the internet. Specifically it's a type of Sausage made from fish eggs. I guess it would classify as a sushi dish?

I think these guys were roleplaying as drunk businessmen, as they'd somehow lost all of their clothes, and were hanging out by this tree that I had heard someone refer to as the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) tree. When they asked if I could give them some giant Roe Sausage, I looked for the recipe, but came up with nothing. :(

This topic seems like a joke considering the blatant double entendre (I commend anyone who actually has such a pure, innocent mind), but I'll offer a serious response regardless and say that the only sushi recipe we have currently is the Persimmon Leaf Sushi that's learned automatically at level 70.

In contrast to most people believe, the most important ingredient in "sushi" is not fish or seafood, but sushi rice. Thus, sausages made from fish eggs actually cannot be classified as a sushi dish.

As to where to find that giant Roe Sausage, I recommend you to search the inside of your clothes a bit more thoroughly...

I'm glad you brought it up! Technically, sashimi is not considered sushi. Sushi must contain rice, and the ingredient on top or inside it can be either raw or cooked. For instance, unagi (eel), anago (sea eel) and tamago (egg) are usually cooked. Wasabi can also sometimes be put inside sushi. Sashimi is usually served raw and plain. Condiments like soysauce and wasabi are never pre-applied.

Agreed. I actually love Sashimi but never took the time to understand the distinction as I thought (Rolls, Nigiri, Sashimi) were all Sushi. I learned something new. Thank you!

I love sashimi too! :D O-toro sashimi with about 80% fat is divinnneeeee!!! But it's too expensive... I have it only about once a year.

When I was in the States, my impression was that a lot of people thought Rolls = Sushi. Rolls (Maki) are a kind of sushi. But rolls do not define sushi. I was in Boston back then, and I had a date with this one guy. He wanted to take me out for dinner, and asked me what I liked.
"Alright! Let's have sushi then!" I suggested.
"Awesome, I love sushi too!" He concurred.
So we sat down together in this Japanese restaurant, and I asked,
"Are we sharing?"
"Sure, you can order whatever you want!"
"Great!"
Thrilled, I ordered a bunch of assorted Nigiri and Sashimi.
....
Then 10 min later...

"Er... are these raw?" he asked.
"Yeah, is there a problem?"
"Sorry, I don't eat raw fish."
"But you said you looooooove sushi!"
"Yeah, I do. I just don't eat raw fish."

So yeah, he thought only Maki's are sushi. Of course, as mentioned above, the sashimi I ordered doesn't qualify to be sushi, but the nigiri was! There's nothing wrong with liking Maki. I love Maki too. But Maki is of a lower priority than Sashimi and Nigiri sushi. Sashimi is the most plain... so it needs to be fresh to be tasty. You are also going to enjoy the fish's natural texture. It's the expensive stuff. You don't walk in a restaurant, fill yourself up with Maki before you enjoy Sashimi. The heavy sauces and sometimes the crunchy flour in some Maki is going to ruin your palate when you eat Sashimi. So you should eat your Sashimi first, then your Nigiri, then your Maki. I prefer my guy to have a little bit more food culture. Needless to say, we didn't date again.

Later, another guy who tried to date me said something very similar... He told me he LOOOOOVED sushi, but he doesn't even eat fish (not even cooked). I dropped my jaw... and no, I didn't date him.

This was back in the late 90s though. I think people in the US these days know a lot more about sushi than before.

I am in Alaska so we have an abundance of fresh fish and my introduction to Sushi was Nigiri. My favorite thing to this day is ordering a variety of nigiri pairs with Sake, Hijiki, and maybe a spicy tuna hand roll. My personal favorites are Toro (all kinds), Maguro, Sake (salmon), Unagi, Hamachi, Saba, and Tai.

I personally believe maki is a way to increase the popularity of sushi restaurants. It takes away the complexity and intimidation of ordering nigiri pairs. My favorite restaurant will do surprise rolls where they make extremely colorful dishes with a variety of textures and tastes. There may be a roll in it that is a cucumber or seaweed wrap then topped with a variety of different poke or other misc garnishes.

And if the group is big enough the best thing to do is order a boat. But I still agree with you that people still don't know that much about sushi and it takes someone to lead them on a true experience.

I always get lots of tuna and salmon nigiri with wasabi and soy sauce. Sake is great to have on the side as well.

I heard seattle has its own cherry blossom every year too. I bet it is super romantic! :D

I used to always dreamed of meeting my Tom Hanks in Seattle... The only problem is, I can never stay awake when I am sleepy... So it would have been hard to remain "sleepless". :/

There are also the Oriental Sushi Lunch (65), Chirashi-zushi (69), and Nigiri-zushi (69).

Its all in the freshness. The vast majority of Alaskan fish is factored through Seattle, but you are hours closer than Seattle is.

In the meantime, the testing required in Japan means over 24 hours from the time the fish lands in the country till it hits the market.
