FC fraud?

the latest update says something about fc fraud could an admin or someone from development please explain what this is about and what was done

Likely they removed the ability for people with Promotion privileges to promote other players above their own rank, about the only thing I can think of them doing.

Just tested this, and the ability to promote above your rank is still there.

As for now, the only advice we can give, is to not give promotion permissions to any rank except the people that you know won't betray you. Which, even that, nowdays, is hard to predict. x.x

If they didn’t fix that, then what did they fix? O.o I can’t think of anything else that would be used to commit FC fraud other than promoting above your given rank...

Could be a system that triggers when someones uses that ranking privilege to rank themself up and then that character is flagged and if stolen goods are reported, they could be sanctioned more easily? Just a wild guess..

This is what I thought as well, some back-end/database work to make it easier for themselves to track and action offenders.

More than likely the details will never be revealed because that means dishonest folk would immediately start finding workarounds. My guess is more detailed account tracking for FC activities.

My gil's on the issue of players with rooms in FC house being unable to leave the FC until their room is demolished, and FC members revoking their access to the FC house, preventing them from demolishing. Problem has come up a few times this month, might be some less than reputables have caught wind and are trying to use it as extortion.

Player can't leave FC until room is demolished. Player cannot access house to demolish room. FC leader demands gil (or other) for access to FC house to demolish room so they can leave.

Supposedly there was also something going on where people were duplicating items using the company chest during the DDoS attacks.

LMAO I am literally shocked at how any of these things are possible! That's crazy! The fact that you're able to promote someone to a higher rank than your own... that's silly enough as it is.

But not being able to leave the FC because you have to demolish your house first??? LOL

if they told you what they fixed, the people committing the fraud will figure out a new way to exploit something. Standard procedure from almost all game development companies.

That being said, they didn’t fix the most glaring offender when it comes to FC fraud, which is the ability to promote above one’s own rank. That should be done away with, because a lot of the FC fraud stories I hear about are people promoting themselves (or others) to higher ranks in order to gain access to things like important tabs in the FC chest or the gil, if the leader has a rank of officers that can access it. That issue needs to be addressed because it is highly abused (and it makes zero sense why you can promote someone to a higher rank than yourself, or even promote yourself, in the first place).

I just find it hilarious that by not saying what fraud they fixed (most likely so as not to give people ideas), it made people wonder and cause this thread to exist, which then revealed 2 FC exploits for people to learn about (and potentially give people ideas).

I get that, but I'm willing to bet Square considers that the FC's responsibility to work out amongst each other (unless Square stated otherwise).

If people figured out how to dupe items, or mess with the game's code in anyway to fudge rankings (w/e that is even worth), I imagine Square to jump in and hotfix like an angry goose.

Which company wouldn't lol? I know Rockstar fixes money glitch within hours of being found, so people usually releases their founding friday night. Otherwise people that abuse said system get sanctioned one way or another.

They did an update a few months ago just like this without explanation.

If they haven't fixed the loophole that lets one person puppet FCs buy houses then I don't really care.

I know it's not but imo it should be and that's the only FC fraud I can find myself caring about being fixed.

Every FC mishap I have heard or read about is a players fault for trusting and not taking the proper measures to make sure the FC isn't compromised.
