Fisherman and Tackle Boxes

I had a random thought that I'm shocked wasn't thought of when Fisherman was first created.

The idea is that the little tackle box option we use to select between our bait or lures is to turn that into a separate storage for putting our bait and lures into. As a player who just finished getting my fisherman to level 70, the issue of fishing is mostly your inventory being filled with nothing but bait. Now while we did get an expanded inventory back in Stormblood and soon we are getting Chocobo carrier storage, I still feel there should be some element to some kind of storage (limited maybe to 10 or 15 types) for our lures/bait to make more room for our inventory.

You could drag from your inventory and place into your tackle box the bait you wish to use, while retaining extra and swap out from your inventory at any time.

Not sure what others think but this could alleviate some issues of carrying around bait/lures

Was hoping they would have eventually done something along the lines of there being a separate window setup just like the spearfishing gig. But now it seems the chocobo saddlebag is our unofficial tackle box. We just have to take out any bait we're going to use from it. Plenty of space in it though.

I'm hoping the Chocobo saddlebag has plenty of space in it, because it gets annoying that my inventory is about 1/5th fishing bait/lure lol

Could do what I'm doing; fish every fish in the game for completion and you'll never have to worry about bait and lures again. The ARR and HW ones anyway. Though the SB zones are quick to complete at the moment. There's no annoying big fish with time and weather combos put in yet.

I think they said 70 items. But you can't use items from it, you have to transfer to your inventory first. But you can do so from almost anywhere, even if your bird is in the stable.

It is where my fishing bait and lures are going though.

Tackleboxes have been a requested thing since 2.0. We haven't seen them yet, unfortunately.

I was told that SE outright said no to tackle boxes or anything of the sort, but don't quote me on that. It was hearsay and I didn't look further into it since I didn't much care about fishing past leveling it at the time.

Yeah. If I remember right SE said they didn't want to add storage that would only be used by one class.

They managed it with the spearfishing jigs, I'm sure they could figure it out for the remainder.

If they don't want to go that route, it would be great if they condensed the bait a bit. This game* is big on inventory bloat, and fishing bait is no exception.

There are only 3 jigs, I wouldn't really call it even an inventory. Rather than give us inventory for lures and tackles I wish they'd just get rid of at least 50% of them. It's the one job in the game that has that sort of handicap. I can't even compare it to crafters because most crafters share mats. At the very least, I don't necessarily have to buy it if I need it, not the case with most baits who can only be found from vendors.

On the flip side of that argument, if it was only 3 jigs, why bother creating a separate inventory for them? The armoury chest already has a section for off-hand items, they could have easily have gone there.

Oh lord. I know FFXI used offhand for fishing tackle that was directly geared onto you and that, along with everything else you wore, still took up inventory space. Problem is the armoury chest is too small for the current variety of bait we have and that list is only going to continue to grow. Sigh.

I'd argue it's not an inventory at all. It's baked into the new game system. It's not like you can lose or misplace any of the jigs. It operates on its own separate system.

If they didn't go there with Astrologian (astroglobe and arcana deck) or RDMs (rapier vs. the crystal) I should hope they won't go there for the job who already has the biggest item bloat in the game.

I mean the idea of the tackle box is something that would make the feeling of opening that box up like you're actually a fisherman who set out with a specific inventory of tackle to catch your fish. It would make it feel less boring in my opinion. Because it's honestly one of the blandest gathering classes.

It's not really an inventory. The heads are more like stances that can only take effect when a gig is held. If they were an item they would be interchangeable for new heads like bait or any other piece of gear.

We have been asking for a tacklebox since day 1 and nothing so its not gonna happen, or if it does I will be completely shocked. They got rid of arrows and bullets because they felt it was unfair for one job to be constantly having to supply an item to complete its basic function, but they didn't adhere to that with DoL.

Bait can now be stacked to 999 and we're getting Chocobo Saddlebags (a universal tacklebox.)

I'd say the situation has been solved already.

If someone actively plays FSH, and let's for simplicity's sake talk about a full chocobo-inventory worth of baits, they have 70 inventory slots less than people who don't play FSH. So not really, no. I can't even compare it to people who play crafters vs. the ones who don't because most fish are completely useless to begin with. Crafters at least get something out of what they make, FSH just clog up your inventory without you getting anything tangible in return most of the time

They said a while back that creating a space for a tackle box would take up as much server resources as just adding more bag space so it didn't make much sense to create inventory space specifically for fishing gear when they could just add the same space as inventory everyone could use for anything. Simply put it would be the same as basically taking bag space we already have and restricting it so you could only put fishing gear in there.

A tackle box wasn't something they could add on top of inventory. It would take up inventory space capacity on the hardware regardless.

... wh... I guess I don't fish enough but.. who carries 70 different types of bait? or needs 70 stacks of 999 bait? do you DO anything but fish?
if you're not going to do anything with the fish , why are you fishing for them? personally I just vendor or desynth my extra fish. Skill ups and random tin pieces, maybe some sand to sell (it's weirdly profitable sometimes).

As an example in my quest purely for log completion and not being an avid fisher at all compared to people that actually play on fisher just because they like fishing, I have 19 lures, 21 if you include two SB scrip lures currently not needed until they add more SB fish, and 30 different varieties of bait sitting in my inventory. All that is for the remaining fish I have left in the game to catch that are all the time, weather, weather chain, fish eyes, or a combination of any of that for big fish or normal fish that fall under those categories such as the very annoying big fish Opabinia or a stubborn small window normal one like Sculptor. At the moment the ones I have left is a continuous revolving door of fish windows coming and going. Fun times... woo x.x

3: Fishing bait only clogs up your inventory because you're trying to prepare for literally any fish. I don't think those stacks of Lugworms or Moth Pills are worth losing the inventory space over.

4: If a majority of fish are completely useless, then why are you carrying all that bait? It sounds like you're just torturing yourself for little reason.

You must be having exceptional luck to suggest such a thing xD

Joking aside, catching all fish is quite possibly the most time consuming and biggest RNG grind in the entire game. A similar suggestion I have is to fish up as many whites as you can; to the point that you are fishing solely by looking at available windows using a site like http://garlandtools.org/ffxivfisher/ then just keep your lures and purchase live bait as you need it.

Personally, I can't stomach allocating a large portion of the new chocobo bags to bait alone, and I would totally be on board for some kind of tackle box that keeps its own inventory. I think someone said SE didn't want to give one class its own inventory, but I find the amount of space fishing takes up to be rather discouraging. FSH has always been a bit of an exception to all other classes, and see no reason why one can't be made in regards to this as well. It's not like other classes have a need for bait.

I'm liking the conversations going on in here, very open from both sides.
