I want to get my brother into the game. but I'm not sure which direction I should point him in.
At the most basic level, I would recommend archer/bard. Easy to learn, and beginner friendly at the early levels and in a casual setting.
probably gated due to him just starting, but RDM is the easiest job to get into imo. very easy to pickup and play.
As for things you can do from levle 1 onward, id have to agree and say bard.
White Mage is an easy class to get into with its straightforward healing kit and low stress with its powerful healing, fast queues don't hurt either.
DPS wise, I would say Red Mage is the easiest, but that requires you to progress quite a bit before you can unlock it. All DPS are pretty easy to grasp, see what he thinks looks cool. I would say Monk is the easiest in my experience.
For tanks, Paladin is the best beginner tank in my opinion, but there is nothing stopping him from jumping into Warrior right away, they function perfectly fine.
I would suggest Lancer/Dragoon. Til level 50 really easy to play.
probably BLM until 50 and then RDM after that.
Tell him to pick one he likes. All of the dps classes below 50 are pretty straight forward.
IMO every job is pretty easy in this game. Just play what sound interesting.
If your goal is only to reach 70 as a dps class I would recommend arcanist 30-scholar 50-red mage 70. The job quest for scholar are both fun and easy and healing on a scholar could almost be done entirely by your fairy pet, making it even easier than any dps to reach 50 to become red mage.
However, if you want to set up your friend for success at 70 I'd recommend Dragoon or Black Mage all the way. These two jobs will be more complicated than red mage but not really by much and you spend 70 levels learning them so it might even be argued they are easier. Dragoon will be easiest to level through your msq, job quest, and hunting logs. Black Mage ......EXPLOSIONS!
Well, to be honest, the easiest job I found is gladiator/paladin.
However, if you meant easiest damage dealer, I never have played an archer or a bard, but for me, the pugilist/monk was very easy to pick up. Practically plays itself. All you need to do is watch the positionals.
The Lancer/Dragoon is almost as easy. But, the best thing would be to let your brother choose what he wants to play then direct him to the Novice Network for assistance.
Easiest for a new player is Archer hands down. Arcanist is second easiest.
Playing a healer is not as easy as playing DPS when you are starting from page 1, nor is playing a tank. You can't start as ROG, SAM, RDM, or MCH so they should all be excluded.
Some melee DPS relies on positionalst, and melee is generally less safe than range early on.
THM has to manage MP and ACN has a pet to worry about. Casters also have cast times.
ARC is literally just shoot the thing until it dies, while running around like a madman.
So even if PGL is easy to play, for example, it adding positionals into the mix make it less beginner friendly than ARC. Cast times do the same thing since they leave you open, and not knowing proper position or timing can hurt a new player. I'm not saying new players CAN'T play these classes, I'm just saying that ARC is simply the easiest and least reliant on skill in the early parts of the game.
For a DPS,I would defintely go for Bard,
For a healer, White Mage hands down and finally
For tank, Paladin
Now considering roles, if he is a true beginner, I wouldn't suggest healing. I believe it is overall to do fine healing than fine dps in most fight since there's no proper rotation, but many player find it stressful and with FF14 having huge burst on every single fight, this doesn't help
I healed os1 with my bf once and he panicked so much altough it is one of the easiest fight to heal.
The remaining are DPS and Tank, and honestly, I would say tanking may be better as long as he has supervision (you, his brother)
I would suggest paladin over bard for a few reasons
all queue will be instant which mean he will have no dowtime while playing. This is quite significant as waiting 20min for every queue to continue your quest as a dps is just lame. You could always role a tank to make the queue instant with him but still.
Aggro in FF14 isn't a issue spare the lv 25-35 for paladin where dps actually start to pull some numbers and the absence of Shield Oath will make it harder. But beyond that, it's just plain easy. And this is very important because it means he can do a fine job without much effort. Before anything (even dps), his job is to tank and hold aggro. So even he while he level up he does a rather poor dps, as long as he doesn't die and keep the boss at the right pace (which is at the center of the room for 95% of dungeon encounters), his job will be down.
He won't have to feel pressured for enrage or things like this until he reaches savage content (and if he hasn't started, this is far from being his #1 concern right now)
On top of that, being a tank makes him a healing priority and less susceptible to boss mechanic killing him. Dying from an AoE on a new boss can be annoying as a dps, and since he'll encounter a lot of "new boss", he might die a lot as a dps. Making the whole leveling experience less fun (of course i'm assuming he's not an above average player since you ask for easy job)
He get to have "team play" (dungeon) going at his pace. Which is important. Starting off as a healer and seeing the tank pull 6 packs tend to make new player just reroll to a different role.
So yeah, tell him about tanking but that's definitely the easiest role.
