SUGGESTION : Map annotations

I'm sure this idea isn't that original, but here goes.

I'd love to see this feature, or something to it's effect for at least 2.0.

Let us;

a) draw directly onto the map, either with a single thickness pen/pencil with rubber option, this could be stored locally as a bitmap file.

b) drop pins onto the map, of varying type, e.g. Mining pick, sword and shield, treasure chests, whatever, a large enough amount that we can mark things of note with some kind of related icon.

I personally have print screened versions of certain maps, with areas drawn on of note, e.g. Diremites here = good grind 30-33, and a few mining spots. It would be great for this to be a feature of the game.

Even a notebook/pad window , unique for each map would do, so I could jot down co-ordinates of various things with brief descriptions.

What does everyone think?

I like it, they should at least let us mark the map like in FFXI.

Option A is meh.

Option B is really nice though.

This will definitely help with gameplay. I like being able to mark an area in option a better for camp location, etc. I posted an idea of this actually auto filling as you explore the area as an incentive for exploring if map happens to be quest/buyable . However manually doing it would be fine too as we'll have more control.

i was gonna make this thread today after 4 hours of mining at dragon head wishing i had map markers. i know they plan tohave some system were dol can make maps and sell them or somehting.

I have often wished that I had some way of marking the map.

I would also like to add a request to let us be able to share our custom marked maps with others. If someone makes a really good map players could help pass it around!

This would be a great idea. I would really like a map that i can customize to what i need. I have dual screen setup so i can use an online map to mark up but i would rather it be ingame.

I'd like Option A, and like someone said above, being able to share it with others.

We know that map markers are very useful and many players would like to have them so we are planning on introducing map markers in version 2.0 after the maps and servers have been revamped. :)

Rukkirii could you pass along a suggestion so that when we make markers to let them be personal or LS so linkshell mates can point out things for other LS members. For instance in grid at the moment there is a west and east path to get to sorrel heaven the LS could put up a message that says take the west path as there is less agro while on the east there are morboro.

Here the other thing you guys should add. When doing quests you have to open up an individual map to see where you should be going. If you have 16 quests that like 16 or more spots which you have to go to.

In WoW for example if I pull 16 quests the locations of where I need to go will all show up on my main map. FFXIV should do the same thing. Having to look through 16 different quests and planning the best route to take to complete them all is a big hassle since none of the quest are shown on my main map. When I get to an area I find myself constantly checking every quest I have to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Good idea, combine journal map data with the main map, so you don't have to open the journal to see quest locations.

Agree with combining journal map data with main map data, that would save a lot of time and hassle.

Yes, please. Checking a map specifically for each quest sux.

I've wanted something like option B in the OP since launch, I sorely missed it from FFXI. It was such a handy feature that I had hoped FFXIV would expand upon. Looks like we may finally see that come to fruition!

We are currently working towards making it so this feature is something that can be utilized by all members within a party, and when the map is marked by a player, the marking will be displayed on each member’s map.

We are also looking into making this feature even more convenient by having the party leader’s marking be a different color than other members in order to make it easy to distinguish markings in the event members use it at the same time.

Very nice! Would be absolutely great for setting up before a dungeon/raid run. The more experienced members can mark the maps and make it easier to explain!

Love it. This is along the lines of what I was saying with the enemy/ally icons. Let everyone do it, but give the leader special ones.

Could always make it a circle with the number of the party member in it and make the Party leaders a little bigger as well as the different color.

Like in 1.0 beta where there was confusion for the color blind so they couldnt tell what mobs was what. I would include the number as well.

I really like this idea for party organization, and raid strategies.

However, don't be alarmed when map penes start showing up.

awesome news, i requested this a while back so it is nice to see it being implemented, it will really help a leader lead people to areas and in raids!

But what about the original request? Personal map markers that survive party disband and logoff/logon. From this update, this feature appears to be temporary during the life of a party or one player's leadership of that party and for clarifying party goals. What about gathering, or solo farming, so that we don't need to alt-tab to game support sites to remember where some location was that we haven't been to in weeks?

Begging your pardon, but it's a big map. Marking it as I learn in-game > Campsitarus + FFXI Cartography + 'pedia + ZAM + Pads + MB.
