So I've found a TON of stuff about how downright awful the most recent Windows 10 Creators' update has been for gaming, with a lot of people seeing their FPS tank like mine has for absolutely. No. Reason.
And when I say no reason, I mean no reason. There aren't any rogue processes taking up extra resources, there's no settings to throttle my FPS, my computer isn't even trying to run this game (it doesn't need to, even with max settings, an enhanced NVIDIA Inspector profile, and Reshade, I have 60 FPS steady and my computer hardly gets warm), my drivers are up-to-date.
Speaking of drivers: I updated my graphics driver yesterday and that helped. My FPS went back up to 60. But I logged on today, after literally not changing anything overnight, to find my FPS back at 20. This is seriously infuriating. I've tried most everything I can find on the internet regarding this issue aside from rolling back to the previous version of Windows. (And even then, people who've done that say the update is forced back upon them not long after rolling back. It sounds like there are so many "fixes" and potential issues that no one can really even pin down one single reason this update screws games over.)

Good afternoon, and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
It seems like you've already tried a few things. I can suggest a few more, however, if this problem is directly tied to Creator's update, I can't guarantee they will work.
First off, can you think of anything that changed on your computer that corresponds to the FPS drops (aside from Windows)? Think of anything like an anti-virus update or an overlay program, like Geforce Experience?
Have you tried to run the game in DirectX 9 mode? Does this have any effect on performance? Have you tried lowering the graphics settings (even if your GPU can handle the higher settings)?
Are the FPS drops accompanied by any graphical glitches? Have you noticed any performance issues with any other games you play?

I've tinkered around with shutting down any background programs and processes I can when I launch the game just to see what happens, and the framerate doesn't go up at all.Quote:

I reinstalled my driver, played for a bit, logged out, shut down, booted my computer up just now when I got home, and immediately ran FFXIV. 22 FPS, to be precise. Down from 65. My computer likes to make background programs the active window when running FFXIV in borderless window, and the default setting in FFXIV is to limit framerate when that happens. But, when I alt-tab or mouse click to get it back, the framerate remains limited.
My fix was in system config, uncheck limit frame rate when not active window. -

It sound like there is something being changed/updated when restart your computer (however I can't tell for certain).
You can try disabling programs on start up. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select 'Task Manager.' Then select the startup tab and everything to 'disabled.' Then restart the computer.
Is there any program that may help you automatically update programs. I am aware of some anti-virus programs that do this and Windows 10 might have some sort of setting that allows something similar.
Please keep us updated on the situation. -
