What do the medals above our names represent, and how do you acquire them?

Not that I really care but, I am sitting in my bed with nothing to do and I was curious. . .

They are merely a reflection of your post count.
First gold is 100, I think. etc etc.

Not 100% sure but I think it represents post count and the more ya post the more ya get :)

It's just post count.
Personally I think stuff like this only encourages spam and garbage posts.

Don't think post count is the only factor. For example, TheVedis has more posts than Reinheart (two ppl who post on these forums often, in case you think I'm pullin' names out of my inventory), but Reinheart has 5 gold medals and TheVedis has only 4 (as of the typing of this post).

may have something to do with the amount of 'likes' you get as well

Post count + like count. -- Some people have 2k - 3k post counts and still have silver medals.

The hip kids know that goku's power level was over 8k in the original Japanese.

Its all "Likes", Postcount no longer accounts for it, it used to, and for example the reason I have 4 is because I had tons of posts before they switched to "Likes",

If someone made an account now and got 1000 posts, they'd have the 1 default silver medal to show for it.

It was a pretty dumb idea imo. How does getting a bunch of likes make one person better than another? There's just too many way people can exploit this, including making multiple accounts to like your own posts.

Dont you need a valid XIV account to post, so you cant like unless you are logged in and have an account, who is going to pay 10bux just to get a like? thats 100bux for 10 likes XD

Also if its post count, then trolls get medals, posts saying "lols /10char" get medals, much worse imo.

I know it's crazy, but some people would. It's definitely better than post count, I agree. But even without having multiple account people can just make polls to get a lot of likes.

I thought it was related to how many 'likes' accumulated total out of all your posts, plus post count. That was just a guess, while I have no idea if it is or not the fact.
