Rival Wings: Generator vs Tanks

Every match begins the same with someone telling the group to focus on the generator from start to finish, even with an onslaught of bots headed for your core. The generator still seems to be the focus for some. I find tanks to be just as effective as the generator is at times. I try to push for one person from each alliance to collect tanks while the rest go to the generator. Of course, that never works out as planned. For example, some don't listen and you now have entire alliances gathering tanks and none went for the generator; or your dps went but your healer went to collect tanks instead, so your dps die. And every now and then I see that occasional person say that mid helps but isn't meta at all. To which I say, that I have matches where we have had the generator all game long and still lost.

So my question is, what do you find to be the most ideal way to begin the game and continue the game all match long in regards to generator vs tanks, (Or even pushing mammets)?

I have seen games where we focused the generator in the mid but then the enemy is collecting tanks in the caves and walk out with bots first since the generator provides CE at a slow rate. Most would say, get the Generator and then clear out the caves. But there are some games where the generator room is so heavily contested that it could take up to 4mins before it's finally cleared out; and you even have the follow up of round 2 after that where people return to avenge their own deaths. And by the time those 4mins of slaughter are done, they already have bots from tanks.

I've personally had more success with getting tanks and getting a mech out ASAP or pushing mammets. Mid and generator control IS important, but I feel like people overly prioritize it, and at the wrong times besides.

One style I have adapted is that 1 member goes and grabs tanks while rest of team goes for mid at beginning. This way if someone dies while in mid, they could have a chance to grab a mech to help push lanes. having first/second oppressor of game can make a big difference in the beginning phase. This is just what works for me and the teams that I have worked with.

When it comes down to what class should go for tanks, to me, it depends on how good of a 1v1 duelist and being able to gauge if you could win or if its worth the time to duel.

Mid game has always turned into a crap shot since everyone starts chasing down enemies mech XD still working on a strat that works for this phase other than grab tanks.

The tanks generate CE faster, but you need one player from each party to gather them, and people to be very coordinated in how they get ce. Otherwise you get people tripping over each other to pick them up. The tanks also stop generating CE when people come in and attack you, because you can't gather them. Mid is slower, but requires less people and is constant passive generation.

The wins I have seen tend to be more about how good your mech players are and how coordinated the team works. CE isn't as much of an issue as you think if you can keep them alive long enough and act well enough to do damage.

Generator is nice for a steady upkeep of CE that allows groups of 4 to not worry about CE but gathering tanks are what win matches.

Most of the time the only reason why the group without the generator lost is because certain parties form the alliance stopped gathering Tanks.

If you designate 1 person in each party to gather tanks then the odds of winning increase by at least 50% because what causes losses is being overwhelmed by Mechs, not from lack of generator.

Everyone here resonate with the same idea. It's ideal for one person from each party to be the designated tanks gatherer. In my party, 1 person collects tanks. 1 person controls mech. 2 people support mech/alliance.

On blue side specfically I personally like the idea of a 2man ce mech start. Two different teams sends one player each to gather ce, one team spawns a Opp the other spawns a CC if done early enough with how uncordinated players are it can lead to a very early tower and force enemies to chase the opp while cc is stalling. This allows players to grab mid the second time around if they are smart about it..

I had this one match where a Opp was able to kill the S tower early by staying away from the ledges near mid and then it stayed in the south east corner where I was on a CC and the rest of my party was peeling for us. We had about 10 enemies trying to kill the opp which allowed the rest of our alliance the chance to take mid.

Blue has a new tactic now and totally avoid going in the mid early. They send three groups. One on each lane to kill mammets and push to tower and the third group to gather CE under middle for mech. Afterwards, they swarm to take middle for the long game.

Yeah, I saw this. They abuse the fact you can heal mammets by stacking healers to push, making it impossible to kill them in time. You have to divert a lot of resources to stop a smaller amount of players.

But can't that also be countered by having a healer keep their own viking alive to make it a stalemate?

I guess it assumes red is sending enough people to mid to hold the generator so even if some red healers start healing the mammets they're still outnumbered. Remember healers can attack mammets, too, so they only need to heal enough to keep them up then the rest of the time is spent dismantling the red ones.

I think this happened to our team tonight and I was near alone trying to fend off mammets and a few healers at our tower. It fell almost instantly.

Considering how many objectives there are its gnna take a while for ppl to come up with what the most effective way is to play this game mode.
Right now people are just trying to counter whichever strategy is popular at the moment.
I hope it all balances out & everyone spreads out on the map properly instead of running around zerging everything.

I like when my team goes around the map killing people and mechs alike

I never see SE implementing something like this, but if there was some visual merit symbol next to a person's name in pvp instance chat that displayed their veteran status or experience in pvp it would help players decide whose strategy has the most veracity vs the person who plays 6 games makes an elaborate macro, slaps on pvp mentor and thinks they understand how pvp works over someone with over 1k Frontline victories, winrate etc.

Idk like bronze star =500 pvp victories and scale up. 'Shrugs'

You just see someone yelling to pull out opps when 2 enemy brutes are up and you try to explain why that's a bad idea and you have better luck convincing a door mat...but then people still get the opps out anyway cause i mean he made a macro and sounds like he knows what he's talking about...

My brain hurts.

I generally do my best to make good calls, but I'm in the camp that prefers not to tunnel mid all match, so I'm not surprised people will question or second guess me.

I've been fortunate to have teams - my immediate light party - that generally follow through with my initial tactics, or back me up on push attempts. I feel like that makes all the difference at times.

Idk I've won games just on tanks, and some games just on generator.

The past few games the other team just stacked healers on the generator so there was no retaking it so we made do with tanks and pushing the points. It all depends on the people in your parties, mech ability, and the ability to adapt to a changing situation.

Exactly. Adaptability is key, as is pressure and momentum.

If they want to stack healers to block the generator, ignore the healers there, grab CE by other means and aggressively attack everything else. It's "harder" in that it may take more work/effort, but it is an effective counter to that. If you make their holding mid irrelevant, then what advantage do they have with just that?

tfw someone spams macros with sound attached over mid so much, that you have to mute the volume on the game

Way too many people think that the centre spot is more valuable than it really is. Yes its good to have but I've won games where we've never had it. On the flip side I've lost matches because half the alliance in there defending the generator leaving the towers alone.
