The game heart my eyes

Hi,i just started playing FF14 on computer not long time ago and after few days of playing my eyes started hearting me,getting red ,appear blood vesels on my white part of both eyes.I played another mmos but i didn't have any problems so i decided quit the game for few days and my eyes got better.Today i logged in to play again and i can't play,there are some zones in the game wich heart my eyes,i have to close my eyes for few seconds to continue playing.I visited an eye doctor but i don't have any problems with my eyes.Is there anyone else who has same problems as me?:confused:

That sounds strange. I'd say your monitor is too bright or some such, which is a typical cause for sore eyes. Or blinking too seldom due to watching screen light, causing the eyes to try. Etc etc. But since you can play other games on the same monitor (right?), that's odd. Which zones in particular hurt the most?

any zone with trees or grass

Have you tried tinkering with the display settings in the game? Lower brightness and such?

i usually play on max settings on any game i play....i did some research on google but i found some forums with same problem is not just me....something wrong with the trees and the grass....does not affect everybody...depends of your eyes...seems my eyes are sensible

So, perhaps it's caused by the subtle movement of the grass strands and branches? Like the eyes constantly trying to follow the movement, straining them.
It's possible to switch off grass almost entirely in the graphics settings. The game will look uglier for it, but it might help in your case?

If you're playing at max, try switching darkened edges and hbao off. Hbao tends to drive my eyes nuts with the fuzziness

When we buy brand new monitors they're always super bright. Try lowering the brightness and contrast on your monitor to more normal levels.

If you are able, try adjusting the sharpness levels on your monitor little by little. The defined edges in grass and trees would hurt my eyes over time, and make it really hard to focus.

I think i had something similar FIRST time i played this game. But it must be the movement of youre character and because there is much to look at and not the screen itself.
Also make sure you play with lights.

I sometimes have this problem but I think for me it’s caused by dry eyes - at least my optermist said that when he checked my eyes out they were extremely dry.

if it is grass it might be shadow flickering that is most prominent on moving grass.

You may want to try lubricating eye drops. I have very dry eyes and this helps me a lot. Not the harsh eye drops for removing redness, just get artificial tears.

I would make sure to play with a decent amount of light around you. My eyes get bothered if the screen is bright but my surroundings are dark.

Perhaps adjusting the gamma correction in the game display settings may help.

Most people don't play video games in a healthy lit environment unfortunately. Monitors are always factory set on very high brightness levels and most buyers don't even bother to change the brightness settings. Also playing on a dark room with a very bright screen is very unhealthy. Lower the brightness of your screen around 50% or even lower if the monitor is bigger than 24" inches or sits very close to your eyes. Be sure to have some sources of light around but not directly facing your eyes. A good lighting behind you or hidden behind the screen can help. It depends on you and your environment on how you need to adjust lighting. Also be sure to stand on the right distance from your screen. Sitting to close is bad as it is sitting too far. You don't want to stress your brain trying to read tiny letters or burn your eyeballs by sitting too close. Be sure to visit a doctor as well. There may be a health problem lurking. Try some tinkering with your monitor and lighting first.

If you are on windows 10 at night, try turning on Night light, click the bottom right where the notification bit is, it softens the output.

If you're noticing it from grass or trees, maybe it has something to do with marginal screen tearing? Smaller, patterned objects and distortion over them can be more prone to causing less than obvious eye stress. I used to have that issue with Tera and Rift, where small distortions in bright areas of terrain due to screen tearing would stress my eyes.

I get similar problems, I also get a migraine that lasts for a couple of days if I play the game for too long... which is either triggered by either not moving enough, or eye strain/dry eyes. Do you wear glasses? If so, you can get anti-screen glare coating on them from your opticians to ease eye strain (well in the Uk you can, afaik) that may help. Use eye drops as well, and take regular breaks :)

Either the brightness or the gamma. I had to adjust not only my tv screen but the settings in game as well.

Do you see hearts when you blink?

lighting is a huge issue when playing this since the scenery is fairly bright in game. I added led lights on the back of my monitor to light the wall behind my monitor and it helped with the strain immensely.

Sit further away from your monitor. Either push your monitor back or push your chair away.

If you're leaning close because things are hard to read, increase the size of your UI.

idk, if this was such a big problem im sure lot of people would have issues myself included who has sensitive eyes (done lasek too so extra sensitive) and i havnt had any problems. Also play on max settings

i use a TV for a monitor to avoid the light computer monitors emit, the TV doesn't hurt my eyes and i can game for a long time without issues. its way easier on the eyes for me. TV : Sony 46inch

1 - In the System Settings make sure that you have the Frame Rate set to limit at 60 FPS, if there's too much discrepancy between the Refresh Rate of your monitor and the frame rate, you can get weird visual tearing and it can actually cause eyestrain really badly. (I actually had this happen recently - I switched the frame rate limit off on FFXIV -- just to see how high it would go -- and forgot to change it back and for the four days it was on, every time I played I got really dizzy and my eyes would hurt. Once I switched the FPS limit back to 60, the issue went away while playing.)

2. FFXIV seems to have a harsher lighting palette than other games due to its vibrancy and seems to affect people more who are already sensitive to blue light and computer vision syndrome. I'd recommend either using f.lux to warm the colors of your computer screen to something more akin to natural lighting or getting a pair of computer glasses that help with eye strain and blue light emission.

Check the setting on your TV / Monitor and make sure they match your game settings on PC / Gaming console. You could also try wearing anti blue light glasses. Love hurts I know.

This happened to me as well, it gave me headaches.
