suggestion: universal voice options/"no voice" option

hi i just want to start this by saying that i know it's probably going to sound weird, but please hear me out.

since starting FFXIV theres always been a voice option i love. i cant recall its number but i know both Miqo'te and Lalafells have it, and when i started as a Lalafell and moved to Miqo'te i loved it. it was the perfect voice to/for me. but when i switched to Au'ra i was somewhat heartbroken to see that it wasn't there. to play the race i wanted to play most i had to pick a different voice option, one which didn't sound even close to as good and seemed to have at least three different VA's attached to it at times. now the only time i get to hear the "perfect voice" is the occasional times i fantasia back to a Lalafell for funsies during content droughts. its really saddening to me.

i don't think it's really that big of a deal overall, but to someone like me being able to have a voice you're comfortable with is really important. i'm a born mute, meaning i've never been able to speak or make any kind of sound in real life, and one of the most important things to me in games is that my character sounds okay to me. i always want my characters to fit the role of the voice ive never had, and if they sound off then it affects my overall ability to be immersed in the game. games where the protag is completely silent work too, but it doesn't feel as satisfying as it does to see one of my many self-insert characters actually able to make sounds.

so! my suggestion is this: make all voice options available for all races (or maybe even genders if you want to go full sillymode with it), ooooooor add in a voice option for the character to make no sound at all!

i realize that this is something that likely only matters to me and nobody else will really care about this, or maybe im even posting this in the wrong area because i dont know how to forums, but i wanted to put this out there in the vague hope that maybe someone will read it and care about it at least a little bit..

Can you imagine this sound coming from buff femroes or highlanders?

Edit: Also, it would be nice to have a few more voice options for races. Who's to say a Roegadyn male might be a bit soft spoken? Nothing outrageous mind you, but I do think a lot of the playerbase would like more voices in general.

We can name our Au Ra Qestir but we're forced to have a voice, a none option would be great

I would love this, I have played Hyur Midlander a lot and sadly they have the most hidious voice ingame. Even Highlanders have better voices. Would love to mix in some Aura and Miqote to some other race and vice versa.

I would love this, honestly. My favorite voice is the one I gave my Miqo’te (believe it’s option 2), and I would love to give it to my Female Midlander alt.

I'd be good with this. There's only two lady highlander voices that aren't 20 gallons of cringe to me, only one lady midlander voice, two au ra, two miqo'te...its not good. I realize that going in to re-record voice acting would be time and cost intensive, as well as potentially bad for anyone who does like their voice at the moment, so yeah, I feel like opening them up and allowing a silent option would be good choices. Don't get me wrong though, Id love a total overhaul as well. Current choices are definitely lacking, and as the voice acting is beginning to improve (in the English version at least) I would say recording a few more choices in the future would not go amiss either, in addition to these things. ^_^

I would love a no voice option. As i am mute and probably in a minority here with the op, but to me having a voice in game feels weird at times.
And adding a no voice option would not cause massive costs for another VA and development for extra voices like the other options would.

its so weird to me that theres practically never a "no voice" option in any game that makes you choose a voice. itd be understandable if your character talked, but it most of those games characters just have combat grunts of some kind. adding a no voice option would require little work, allow players to have a quiet character if they wish, and allow mutes to be able to immerse themselves better in the game.

I'm in the other end of the spectrum, going for the most out of place voice I can. There are some deep Roegadame and Highlander lady options I would be all over.

There was a game that had a no voice option, even so far as to have other character's dialogue work around the fact the lead is mute, but I learned of it in the context that the mute option was cut from other languages since it was so much extra writing. I think it was an SNES game??

While I wouldn't choose it myself, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be an option.

I agree. I think this would be a perfectly fine thing to have.

I kinda do believe there should be more shared voices. I'd gladly trade away some of the awful Miqote voices for a couple of the good AuRa voices, for example.

i just wanted to bump this thread and bring it back up since i was recently a lalafell for a bit and it reminded me once again that the race i play, au ra, cant use my ideal voice (since there's no 'no voice' option) which seems to only be on lalafell and miqo'te...
