How to make Perform macros(?)

Yo!
So, I tried to make macros as I would with regular actions but it didn't work. Someone else mentioned using Python but I'm not quite sure how that works. I wanted to try playing some FF8 tunes on my harp. B) Anyone get how to do this?

So far, I've tried:

/ac "note"
/action "note"
/soundeffects "note" (because its volume is controlled by se)
/ambientsounds "note" (desperation)
Et cetera

Macros are unavailable to be used with Performance actions. I think Yoshi confirmed this in one of the live letters, can't remember. Anyway for now will have to do it all manually.

You could probably use keyboard macros if you have the right software.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how would one do that? Someone did mention a software (Python), but idk how one would use that and then do it up on FFXIV. Do you have any idea? XD;

The software would look for a trigger, usually a key combination, and then it would input a series of keyboard commands that are programmed into it.

The idea would be that the keyboard commands would correspond to the notes you want to play.

In so much as ACT is against TOS and the vast majority of Raiders still utilize it openly to evaluate their performance while SE turns a blind eye as long as you're not harassing others.

There's a lot of items in the TOS which are basic 'cover our butts' things and other items that are in there that are more "spirit of the law" items. In this case, that automation is spiritually meant to cover things like movement bots for mass gathering (which notoriously even the bots that use teleport warps don't get banned). I find it highly unlikely that they would invoke this ban for the specific use to script songs for the Performance system. Also in that, it's very difficult for them to prove that you were using a utility that sends keystrokes to the game as they are simply emulating actual keypresses. They would have to go through a lot of work to make that case and for something like the perform system that doesn't give any inherent benefit to the player it's unlikely that they would care to persue it.

However... it's still a "use at your own peril" kind of thing.

The difference between macros outside the game limits, and ACT is that ACT just displays you information you can already see ingame. It's nice but anyone with an abacus and their battle log could do the same thing in enough time. Macroing content that wasn't designed to be is automation, the same thing the hoards of RMT bots do. You may use it for harmless fun in bard performances, but it's one step away from being just as bad as are gibberish named friends.

Yes, understandably it's a slippery slope in the regards that it could be used in that way. However, the argument that "anyone could do the same thing in enough time" with an abacus and their battle log is a non-sequitor. I could very well do the same thing for the performance system with a midi device such as a keyboard attached to my PC, and people already are.

In terms of being "one step away" from those bots, ACT is also in the same boat as in order to do what it does it needs to access the memory locations that the game is running in to read that log which is a direct, unequivocal hack far closer to the bots teleportation hacking than a program that automates valid keypresses is.

The devs have made the precedent in their statements on such things that intent matters. What you are doing with a tool matters more than what the tool is actually doing. If you're not hurting anyone with what you're doing then just don't advertise it.

I posted that simply because the GMs don't take kindly to discussion of these things on the forums and it could net you a ban (which can restrict you from taking part in not only discussions but some of the contests as well).

Thank you, I wasn't formally aware as someone else spoke about it casually/publicly. XD I should've guessed it but didn't occur to me it was more-or-less on the same note as RMTs.

Interesting comments, everyone. Thank you for responding. (You're all too tech savvy, my goodness. I can barely follow. XDD)

Since posting things, my FC leader has come to learn a few songs by hand and they're brilliant. He uses the keyboard/mouse, though, whereas I use a gamepad controller. Thus far, the more incredible lute players in the game I've seen (youtube & on my server) use keyboard/mouse. I'm thinking I can put like a song or two worth of notes on each available crossbar (if the song is simple enough), but I don't thing Performance seems as gamepad friendly?

Maybe SE will release a special piano usb controller player can plug in their PC and PS4.

Python is not a application, its a programming language.
And yes, macros are not available atm, maybe they add that at some point.
