[SCH] Galvanize Application Delay

Has anyone else noticed an animation delay or just general delay when applying shields during raids or in dungeons?

Succor I can understand because it kind of flows down the party in quick succession but Adloquium and Galvanize itself seems to have a slight delay between application and actual effectiveness. I have put shields on people or shielded the whole party before a big hit and the shield remains because the hit goes through first, even though the green buff was on everyone's buff bar in the party list.

I also have this problem with Deployment Tactics, because if you hit Deploy as soon as your GCD is done, the Galvanize doesn't apply from Adlo for a split second and you end up deploying nothing and sitting there looking like a dumbass going "oh shit" while your raid wipes to meteor in O4S \o/

Anyway, I know that this can be counteracted by just applying earlier but when things are hectic and you throw last minute shields they should be effective if you get them out before the hit happens, idk if this is a processing error but I hope it can get looked at because shields feel really clunky sometimes and this would be a huge quality of life adjustment that would make the entire shielding aspect of scholar feel a lot more fluid and comfortable.

OMG I'm slowly switching from WHM to SCH and this annoys me sooooo much. I think the worst part are boss party AOEs that have animation locks like Shin Ex. As WHM you can't just heal right after the boss cast bar is done because HP doesn't disappear until after the animation. As SCH you need to place your shields before the cast bar is done (including the aforementioned delay) or your shields will be ignored, and this despite the damage incoming later after the animation.
The end result is that you can sometimes end up casting succor in such a fashion that it applies after the boss cast bar is done and the shields are ignored, but before the end of the animation so you heals are just overheal. And then you cry.

So many levels of clunky

This has been a thing since day one unfortunately (And it made early T5 clears particularly challenging!).

There's quite a few odd little quirks in how certain spells and abilities function that can sometimes rear their head in unusual ways. Queueing PI after Medica is similar example.

Yep, there's an annoying delay with most spells actually, though mitigation has it even worse. You have to cast the shield way before the cast bar is finished or you risk the mitigation not being applied till AFTER the hit.

Benediction, for example, is famous for never working as a clutch emergency heal because they're dead by the time the heal takes effect.

Heh. Have I ever.

It applies to basically everything. You'll notice it with "instant" heals. Tank CDs. Etc.

Here's the rule: The effect should be applied/animation should be over before the attack's animation starts. There are exceptions but this rule will ensure stuff is mitigated. Applies to healer stuff, tank CDs, DPS's mitigation abilities, everything.

It comes down to being proactive when you play sch and knowing when damage is coming instead of trying to react to a cast bar, cause there are a lot of timings for tank busters in this game aren't long enough for you to begin your adlo cast when you see the boss casting and have the galvanize effect apply, although lately they've been lenient with this and have made them longer.

The good thing is, even if your adlo is late it's not a complete waste as long as your tank survived cause the galvanize will now be up for the auto-attack that follows, which is usually what kills tanks anyway.

See, this usually isn't my problem because with V3S I literally made a timestamped spreadsheet that organized my cooldowns and when I casted what, so I usually am extremely proactive and planning for mitigation. It's just when unexpected things happen or something goes wrong, or mainly during Deployment Tactics that I get fucked over.

Sadly this is due to the way the game was coded & the rather clunky GCD system. Some jobs don't notice it, some get away with it whilst others are seriously affected (mainly healers). One of the most obvious displays is when clutch healing using Benediction or Lustrate & the heal is shown after the target is dead. =_=

I've always been bothered by this on Nocturnal Sect astrologian, aspected benefic is not so bad but aspected helios seems to take foreeever. I remember doing Sophia extreme I felt like it'd only barrier two of the three raidwide hits in a row due to the delay.
However since Dark Knight got Blackest Night this delay has been the bane of my existence, causing one to have to predict every little last thing in an entire fight ~5 seconds ahead on the nose or else it's wasted. I don't think it'd be that unreasonable to have shields in general last longer so this snap prediction isn't so awkward.

What's also fun is when the Galvanize is applied and the damage goes right through it. Shields are up, damage is taken, shields are still up.

Per above (see: shield/CD must be applied before attack's animation starts), this means you applied it too late. Now with the instant cast aspected benefic it's a bit less likely to happen since you need less lead time, but it does still happen (Anyone remember Sophia?). This also happens with Rampart, Addle, and similar.

Since AST exists now there might be a case for making Adlo instacast. But this problem won't go away even SE does make it "instant".

These are actually a separate issue, although both stem from the same one.

Many instant heals like Benediction and almost all Tank CDs have been purposely delayed on the designers' part to activate only upon ending their animations. That means a noteable delay, but it's not due to netcode alone; one's ping merely adds yet more delay atop that. In the case of Benediction, one must wait for their arms to go up, the effect to be sent, a server check, and then for the tank to receive it; and no matter how low the healer and tank's ping are, there will still be a sizeable delay just from the animation alone.

In these cases, however, the boss is snapshotting the party state early in addition to facing ping from both the sending player (healer) and receiving players (party). I'd say weirdly early, except that this is actually more common than the opposite. However, as cases in which player health and positioning are calculated only at the last possible moment (the Chariot bosses' figure eight Trample skill, for instance), this delay, too, would appear to be by design or coding oversight, rather than a limitation of the netcode itself.

As a rule of thumb, I tend to try to make sure all effects have been noticed at least a half second before any cast has ended if I'm unsure of its exact point of check.

God, I wish I could find it. But there was this one bit I caught through a link that showed the Star Trek enterprise getting blasted AND THEN they put the shields up. It was in reference to this exact same issue, and not only does every SCH go through it, but every job can and will suffer from some kind of delay from what you see, and what is happening inside the server.

As WHM, you have time to react when you all of a sudden see a enemy cast bar filling up. For a SCH trying to shield it, if you react to a cast bar, you're already too late. You will likely already be in the middle a current gcd, plus have to wait the 2.5ish cast time of Galvanize. The effect of Galvanize has a long duration, so the idea is to have it up even before the casting begins. You could say this requires knowing the fight, but you can also say that pretty much all dungeon and raid bosses 50+ pulse AoE like there's no tomorrow. IOW, the boss is very likely to AoE the group before the effect wears off, so just keep it up if you're learning the fight.

The thing that makes this is because the shield must be put before the cast bar of the boss attack is over, a lot of attacks makes the dmg like 1 second or so after the cast bar ends. So u see galvanize is online but it was cast after the cast bar of the attack ended so the hit will be done without shield.

If its up before the cast bar ends it shouldnt be a problem.
