Has it happened to anyone that White Hole petrifies people regardless of if their HP is 100% topped off?
It happened twice today. The thing is, we use super heavy mitigation for Fire III and Holy. I got a critical Adloquium on both occassions, making it so people took barely any damage from both those attacks. We had HoTs from Aspected Helios, used a fully charged Earthly Star, and Indomitability, which was like 80% overheal, I'm pretty sure.
Yet, when White Hole finished casting, literally the entire party got petrified.
My theory is that White Hole is demanding that you heal through the entire damage of Fire III and Holy, even if the damage wasn't actually dealt to the party. This also only seems to happen with critical Adlos...
It's annoying as all hells, to say the least.
Has it happened to anyone else?

No white hole change noticed in this week's O4S reset. White Hole does snapshot HP before the cast bar completes so being down-to-the-wire on 100% is down to a chance.

It could be server ticks. Or latency. I’ve noticed that if my group is topped off right at the same White Hole finishes casting, it still petrified the group even though everyone was topped off. However, since there’s so many things reliant on server ticks, it could just be that. When are you casting your Adlo? Right as the cast starts or way before White Hole even starts?

No, no, I know about the castbar and latency, etc.
We legit were full HP like 1/3rd into the cast bar. Everyone was at like 80% HP after Holy hit us because of the shields (stacked with Covenant one of those two times, no less). You won't deny that healing 20% of everyone's HP bars will very definitely be filled by Earthly Star and Indom together. We even got one or two casts of Malefic and Broil before White Hole went out because we overhealed so much. It's definitely not normal behaviour for the attack.
I'm casting Adlo during the Black Hole cast, then deploy immediately as Black Hole goes off. The Adlo usually has Mantra, Minne and Largesse to buff it. This makes it so the shield eats up Fire III so people survive Holy without a heal, and so we use both Indom and Earthly Star to bring people back to full HP waaay before White Hole finishes casting. Most of the times we don't need to use any hardcasted heals, even if the Adlo is not a crit, and can safely DPS through it without anyone petrifying.Quote:

10-28-2017, 03:57 AMVaerThe first Black Hole puts a HP penalty debuff on people that wears off a couple seconds before White Hole goes off giving people some HP back (they aren't topped anymore even if they were and you need decent regens for them to top without casting something in 1 tick) so that might be it? Not as noticeable on the 2nd BH since the penalty wears off as the flares go out so their HP bar doesn't shift at all since the healing probably comes afterwards for that one.Quote:

My group was running into issues on Wednesday with lag and packet loss on O4S and given the report about a DDoS attack on XIV's services recently, I can see how these issues would pop up. We didn't have White Hole issues but we had many mechanical dodging issues that weren't an issue in the past due to lag and the like. Black Holes eating people and people clearly outside of Thunder III's range but actually still got clipped, etc. I could potentially attribute it to that.

No issues noticed this week. Well, other than general latency (which seems to be due to DDoS).... but that didn't cause any issues with white hole for us.
Snapshotting's always a bi*** though. -

I totally forgot I posted this, lmao.
We didn't have any issues for our weeklies this week by using the same strategy, and I think I might have gotten a Crit for the first Black Hole again, so I'm going to blame it on the DDOS attacks too. It might have been very bad server latency snapshotting the full HP bars too late, the healing by Earthly Star or Indom registering late, or something like that. Can't really be sure, really.
At least it doesn't sound like it's a bug, so that's good. Thanks for the response! o/ -

It's not a DDoS attack. If you're using only Earthly Star and Indom to top off the party, very shortly after the holy goes off, then the party will be petrified.
Why?
The black hole cast places a debuff on all party members that slightly reduces maximum HP. This debuff wears off 2 seconds before White Hole finishes casting.
This means that heals after Fire III -> Holy must be timed such that the party is topped off AFTER the debuff wears off. You are healing too early, or you can cast an additional AoE heal after the debuff wears off. -
