That stuff looks awesome. I hope those mobs pack the punch and aren't weaklings like everything else. I want this game to become dark and gloomy like that lich looking thing, and the chimera (or whatev it's called.)
Nice pics btw.
lol posting .dats on the official forums. :/
A lot of those are already in-game, and and the "chimera" is obviously a Manticore btw.
I see manticore/chimera, Raubahn's blade, Incomplete batraal model, an ascian(hooded ghost guy), armored guy from the concept art (I thnk it's Alexander, maybe...).
Only thing I haven't seen is the wyvern thing, probably some of the new monster type (I also saw some huge beaked birds mob somewhere from the .dats)
Edit: lol I forgot all about that Gobbue mount thing :p nice pic of the gobbue mount, hope we can see ahriman soon :p and new mob types!
Awesome.. iron giant, titan.. looks very awesome.. cant wait to see these ingame.
the carpet on goobbue's head is hilarious ^~^

You mean this guy? Reminds me of XI Cockatrice to be honest.
herpin' so hard you're derpin'

They are clearly similar enough to have someone reminded of one by seeing the other.

Seriously doesn't give you the same vibe? I guess I'm just crazy then.
The staff looks... *shudder*
I was hoping mog weapons would be the last of the "joke" gear that we'd see for some time.
Says the guy obsessed with MERCS+1 sigs.
People are referencing FFXI because XIV is both the spiritual successor to it and is the only other MMO in the FF series.
With some of the same dev team working on both games, comparisons drawn between the two games are inevitable. And if there is something unknown in XIV that looks similar to something known in XI, it is perfectly logical to search for answers there.
I don't know why this has to even be explained to anyone...
"Hey that mob sure looks like a mob from a previous game in the same series where models with palette swaps run rampant!"
"yeah right, you're just obsessed. 'tis a coincidence."
lol.
Mammets already in game. :)
For clarification, the Treant staff, the Manticore, the Iron Giant, the dragon, and the Leviathan re-design are new. Everything else is in the game already.
First, do you know what the sig means? I kind of think you think it's an actual thing. A band, a show, a concept. Am I obsessed with my linkshell? Maybe. I love them a lot.
You guys get so defensive over things that are said that happen to be true. The amount of times anyone says, "Oh that reminds me of XI..." is just showing how many people are not over their precious first love. It's hilarious.
Hey, what does this remind you of?

If you've answered Rolanberry Fields and a Mandragora. You have scored high marks on the 'I'm not over FFXI' speed quiz!
Mandragoras don't even look like Onions... Unless onions happen to sprout clovers on their heads.
Anyways more to the point, feel free to show me something else I could have used as a example of a monster with the exact same profile as the Axe-beak as I'll now coin it!
ftfy
Aaaanyway, since we're on the topic of nit picky stuff...
A manticore is generally a beast with a single lion's head (or lion body with a man's head). A chimera is an amalgamation of several animals. That is far more likely to be a chimera.
I would bring up the difference between the two in XI as evidence, but I might get my head bitten off.
I also don't see the problem in posting real game .dats on the forums. /shrug

Hey doesnt that look like a dodo...no? must not be over FFXII either.
The mount idea is great, but they really should show some restraint... be a little more realistic/practical with the mounts they add. Goobue doesn't seem at all practical and it really looks cartoonish for someone to be riding on its back.
How about some horses and ponies? Maybe some wardogs for the tarus.
I agree with the first part of this, Goobbue is OTT for a generic mount (unless its done as a tamed mount by a Beastmaster-type Job)
On the other hand, horses, ponies etc have never really been a part of the FF mythos with the exception of Odin's steed.
I would rather they just stick to Chocobo varieties for general use and Magitek for special areas.

Actually the model shown will be used for both.
As shown, it is a Chimera (or Khimera?) There will be a variation without extra heads on the back which will be used as a manticore. Its all in the concept art.
Oh yeah, and:
"First love"?Quote:

I find it extremely fascinating that you would characterize FFXI in that way.
Considering the outrage whenever the game is mentioned, I suspect your "relationship" (as you might put it) didn't end so well?
Hell hath no fury... I suppose. ;)
Its actually kind of disheartening, I really wanted the Ahriman mount.
Also I want that damn staff already, wanted it since I saw it on that NPC when Toto-rak just came out.
ALSO how many mounts will we have by 2.0? We have our standard GC issue Chocobos (armored when 1.21 comes out) Our Gobue mount for playing through to 2.0, and Quest/Event (GMs didn't clarify yet, just said it'd be tough) to gain Magitek Armor, so that's at least 3 we know of now.
Edit:
Just read through the entire thread, what everyone is reffering to as "The new Treeant staff" isn't actually new at all, it's been worn by the mage NPC in Totorak that you speak to for the quest Imperial Devices, its been in the game for quite a while.
Also the "puppet" is Mamet, they've been all over guilds in each city since the release, can't believe there are people that have not yet seen one.
Aaaaand, the "skeleton thing" is an ascian, it shows up in the story quest "Toll of the warden" they're referenced to a couple times throughout the game by a couple different NPCs and cutscenes, they're basically death itself.

And just in my opinion, the Knight and the Dragon, at least for now, look like they could have something to do with the Dragoon and Paladin quests.
