Transfer & creation : no logic ? (Omega)

Hello,

It's just about Omega and the transfers being locked ; why ? Why transfers but not creation ? What is the point ?

This is the part that I don't understand, why is it possible to create a new character when you can't transfer other characters from another server ?
It just doesn't make any sense (in my eyes). I did create a character on Omega and there is a load of new players everywhere, so it's not "lacking" newbies, even older servers are actually lacking new players way more.
I keep waiting without any idea of when I will be able to move and not understanding why I should be forced to create a new character, start from scratches all over again, when I already have a character I've been playing with for more than 3 years.
The only server facing a similar situation is Balmung, but Balmung is waaay more populated (And you could not create, you could only transfer, for a very long time)

If someone can provide any answer about this, thanks.

Double post because I am locked to 1000 characters (idk why) : but if this is not the place where I should ask, please show me where to because the only talks about servers I have seen are in community side and there is nothing about it nor there are GM answering to threads about it.

Transfers were locked because it was to deter more transfers since they were reaching the population of the other servers very fast.

It's better this way as if it's only transfers, then people can transfer at any time, making the server bigger. If it's only character creation, then the server itself determines when it's available for new people to enter.

Just my opinion regarding the difference between creation of new character and transferring a character:

- Transferred characters could possibly affect the economy of the server which the player is transferring from and to.
- Transfer players tend to bring over their Gils (capped at 10m), and other valuable items such as Materias, and crafting materials which could worth a lot in the new server. This also means the server the player is transferring out of will lose a chunk of those items (if the player is loaded). Which will in turn affect the market prices.

- Creating a new character has nothing (a subligar maybe).

You can get around the 1000 limit by positng part of your post then editing to add the rest. No idea why they have a 1000 character limit when making a post but allow you to go over it when you edit.

Correction, the cap is 999 million now.

They stopped transfers to Omega because the server was filling up very quickly, almost to the point of being declared congested.
Several servers (not only Balmung) are officially congested, which means you cannot transfer to them, and you cannot create new characters there.

All servers can be temporarily closed for character creation if there are too many logged in there at once - this is done in a dynamic way and the status can change at any time. What used to be special about Balmung was that it was closed in this manner almost all the time.


The real interesting question is: Why have transfers to Omega not yet opened up again? It is no longer considered a new world and thus there is less incentive to transfer to it.
The answer is likely based on the active population, but since we do not have the actual numbers we can only guess.

I think the point is to keep Omega or any other borderline server from becoming another Balmung so they locked transfers and then let the system handle character creation on its own the way it's always done. SE does learn their lesson on occasion.

Only when transferring from a congested to preferred server, or any server to a new server, and Omega is not considered a new server anymore. So...the cap is the one that applies to everyone else. 10m + 5m on retainers.

Omega isnt a prefered server anymore. 10M cap applies.

But that goes for all servers then. No matter the server you move to, the same issue happens. Thing is, Omega is as populated as our main servers (Moogle, Odin, Cerberus, Ragnarok & Phoenix). I highly doubt the economy is something you can still have an impact on when the server is that populated. Moreover, less populated servers like Zodiark, Louisoix & Lich are available for transfers ; their economy is far more easy to change if a bunch transfers, so if that was the problem, then they would lock transfers out. But they don't...

I personnally never had any trouble to create characters on Omega. I actually saw my own servers way more often locked for character creation than Omega itself. If you just go on Omega, you'd be amazed by the number of sprouts runing around ; my server is almost empty of those !

So the new servers are actually completely overloaded with new players and Omega is still completely locked for existing characters, yet their lvl70 population is less important than the old servers. Why ? Why is it locked ? It's impossible to get a clear answer of why you can still create and not transfer.
