Can retainers be deployed in our house?

It's cool that we can have retainers on the outside of our house, but can we possibly see retainers being put inside as well?

Honestly, having retainers outside was pretty disappointing. I still had to rely on a bell to deploy them on ventures, store/retrieve items or put things on MB.

I would rather having these features on these retainer dummies first before putting retainers indoor.

Yes, it would be nice to see more NPCs inside the house, there's even more space for decorations now!...

If it was up to me, retainers would not only be employees but also playable characters and they would also share the house with all the benefits and privileges entitled!... :)

If we can't login back in our houses when we log out i doubt they let us put our retainers in there. Why? "strain" on the severs

Well they can't say PS3 limitation anymore.

If the memory and server load is the concern, just make the standard vendor NPCs can be customized like a retainer. That way we get the vendor with the face and hair that we like, and they won't be as "heavy" on the server as our real retainer.

I think I'd prefer to see their functionality expanded before we do anything else to them. I'd love to be able to use the retainer as a free company store for example, but since anything you sell gets put on the market board you can't do that.

I keep saying to my friends that I wish I could put one of my retainers inside my apartment. Luckily one of the new Hingan-based vendor types bears enough resemblance to them, but having them actually available to be placed inside homes as well as out would be nice. :c

I don't wanna be that guy but the reason retainers are in the yard instead of inside is so that random strangers can come by and purchase their wares. If they're inside then passerbys won't know you have them deployed unless they walk inside. This is further worsen by locked houses which would somewhat defeat the point and purpose of having retainers deployed at all and reduces them to being just cosmetic background. To a certain degree, they're that already. I think a better alternative solution would be able to customize the already existing NPCs and keep their functions remaining the same through vendor products.

The retainer can always be in door just for decorative/immersion purpose, it's not like the in/out door placement should be mutually exclusive anyway. Besides, I wonder how many player actually place tier retainer outside solely to sell items instead of decorative purpose (or both).

Would love to have retainers inside my house.. would love if a summoning bell could be an outdoor furnish too..

That's why I suggested the ability to edit the already existing interior NPCs instead. Don't really need the retainers themselves inside if they aren't serving their functions. In my opinion, it would be better for them to give you the option to fully customize the interior NPCs instead of creating a whole new furniture slot that check marks the retainers as interior instead of exterior . Personally, I would much rather be able to edit my mender and have them still function as a mender then place a retainer inside that still functions like my yard retainer. Especially if it consumes one of the already very limited NPC slots. Then I would be sacrificing an NPC I could use in exchange for one that just looks prettier. SE should either build upon what the retainers are able to do or just simply allow us to re-edit and design the various NPCs ourselves; as if they were our retainers but still allow them to function as Material Suppliers, Menders, Materia Melders, ect.

which is why an indoor retainer should have all the functionality of a retainer bell (besides switching retainers obviously).

The reason you can't do this is because you can have a summoning bell in your house. So if you had your retainer deployed in your house then used your summoning bell to call them, it would lead to a paradoxical situation where your retainer meets their doppelganger and leads to the next calamity shutting down the servers.

They could code it so if your retainer is deployed you can't summon them from the bell but that's a lot of extra coding for no real reason.

I wouldn't mind that. Personally I don't really require any functions from the retainer (for housing purpose) besides the ability to change pose.

I mean if your plot is near to a summoning bell, you can still summon them while your retainer is just standing a couple feet away.

Yes, please. I need my catboy harem in my house. Maybe make them posable, too, since it would be nice to have them sitting on the couch or at the desk or something...
