...there would be full-on riots. Could you imagine if other content, such as Shinryu EX, was arbitrarily barred for some people?

"Sorry, only the first hundred people to log into your server get to run Shinryu EX. You didn't make it, so you'll have to wait until we allow more people to play it sometime down the line. Don't feel bad, it's just the way FF XIV is. I got a friend that's been trying to get into the Crystal Tower raid for *years*! And hey, you were one of the lucky five hundred let into the Return to Ivalice raid, so you got that going for you. Though, I hear people are selling their spots in that raid for 500 million gil..."

The above example is crazy, of course. I mean, people would take torch and pitchfork to SE's offices. Yet, this is exactly how housing currently functions, and some people defend it, or just say it's alright because that's how it's been. I don't get that. Housing is a heavily featured part of the game. On the official 4.1 page it is the third item listed, below Ivalice and Skalla, but *above* Shinryu EX. Yet despite this, some people who have enough money and meet all requirements are simply told "Nope, sorry, despite others having houses, there is no way you, specifically, can have one. Sorry."

Simply put, the only valid solutions are ones that assure *everyone* can buy a house once they can afford it, and that nobody gets barred from content arbitrarily. We would never stand for it in any other aspect of FF XIV. We should not stand for it here.

Some would still have the audacity of saying "hey, you need to suck it up! You didn't dedicate yourself enough to earn a spot in a competitive environment to get X raid" XD

Agreed, and that's the most absurd thing about those arguments. Glamour is in no way required either, but if they limited that to only the first 700 people logged in at 6am there would be a riot because it's so absurd.

This is not a competitive game, having land rushes is ridiculous.

That's kinda what Ranked Feast is actually.

You don't need to be the first to get into the queue to get the rewards, but you do need to be in the top 100/10 players. For housing in the current state, you need to be in the first X players to log in to get the reward. It's not a whole lot different in concept, they're both competitions over limited resources.

It would get even more pronounced if the housing zones would allow for full on PvP to interrupt placard interaction - that would play a lot like Seal Rock actually >_>

Yes, but as you pointed out, that's the top 10/100. It's not arbitrary. And the ranked Feast is still the Feast, just with different matchmaking rolls. It's not the same as being locked out of the Feast completely just because you weren't able to log in fast enough a specific day.

It is as arbitrary as:"First come, first serve". Speed competitions (i.e. races) of all kinds work precisely by that same principle - the fastest one wins and gets a prize, the rest not and nobody cares if the reason you weren't the fastest is because your car broke down from a random defect, your horse got a heart attack halfway through or your genes simply gave you lame legs. It only means you'll have no chance to win. At least the latter case still has the paralympics for you to compete in. It's cruel, but that's what competition is.

And you were able to participate in the housing race like everyone else! But securing a spot that rewards a house remains for the ones who were faster, for whatever reason. There were 720 reward slots to compete over in the race in any given server, that's a lot more lenient than Feast.

It shouldn't BE a race in the first place, I concur on that. Ideally, everyone should be able to get a house if they so wish. But the limited housing resource turned it into a race. It is factually handled as a competition, even if that isn't the intention. And in that, it is the same as Feast.

Yes, but The Feast was advertised as a competition, Shirogane was not. It was advertised as content for everyone, like Ivalice and Skalla.

FFXI and FFXIV are two very VERY different games.

FFXIV is a solo RPG with multiplayer functionality, where as FFXI was a true forced multiplayer RPG.

When players are locked out of content due to lack of available in-game space then that content is very flawed.

Players should only be locked out for reasons such as lack of gil, gear, reputation, class levels, military ranks, etc. You know, stuff they can work on. You can't really do much work on getting a house if there are no plots left. On some servers it's simply hopeless especially if you're a new player.

Yes house flipping is an option but it's against the terms of use and it's understandable when players don't want to engage in something where they can easily get scammed, have no protection from it, and possibly face a ban if they're caught.
