Not to bug you, Yoshida. But I'm a big fan of FFXII's Fran. The Viera race was considered for Heavensward but never included and Stormblood marks the second time they've been left out. Should I give up hope?
I don't think you should give up hope. I mean we're hoping Final Fantasy XIV will have a very long lifespan. With that being said. Fran and the Viera race have a very high heel and trying to depict that in Final Fantasy XIV is challenging. They won't be able to wear any shoes that exist in Eorzea right now.
I kinda hope they are true to what makes a viera and they end up as those super tall amazonian femroe style ones. The last thing this game needs is yet another miqo'te reskin.
agreed.
It's why I really want them to do viera. they can combine their waifu desires with the the amazonian feel some people really want....if they do it right, it'll be the best. I will change in a heartbeat. I've always loved the viera and their lore and wanted more.
Omg not again.
Didn't Yoshida say no more fanservice races? Because we DO already have Miqote...
Well, not too long ago, Yoshi-P said that the only hold back on Viera was their feet. we can all see how different they are.
as for design: they need to be in the Fem-Roe height for Females. if not slightly taller. Viera females are insanely tall, as are Males (even though these guys go and hide in the woods to raise kids and fight it out over stuff).

What actually ends up happening

Yeah, I don't get why they can't accommodate their feet. Blade & Souls have the Lyn race, and their legs/feet are way more animalistic than Viera. Aeon also has their ladies with clawed heels. Aaand not to mention the fact that Viera came out in FFXII over ten years ago. They can do itI have faith in you, FF team!.
(P.S. FF: the Viera feet are so amazing that I'm willing to bet most people will forgive their lack of shoes.~ ;D Can look like the emperor's boots until a certain ilvl/level is reached or something.)
Omgd, did you actually draw that? XD That comic is amazing true. :|FFXIV would be so much better with more diverse races, like Lilty instead of Lala, etc.
The feet deal is more that it would require either replacing ALL boot designs to deal with the clawed feet or to remove the claws. One is a hell of a lot of work, the other is cutting a major characteristic of the race out.
I was under the impression the reason a Viera inspired race never happened was from the dev team wanting to install a race unique to FFXIV before adding another that's just a modified version of an old one. Currently, every other race but Au Ra are, just edited tradeovers of FFXI's races, so it wasn't a bad move.
It was never a matter of "no fanservice." Lord no. Even the critique that Viera are just Elezen with rabbit ears and thus too samey is borked when you accept that Auri girls have very similar builds to Miqo'te girls.
It seems damn near cemented that Viera exist in Hydaelyn with the confirmation of Bangaa. We knew the Ivalice raid was heavily inspired by FFXII and Tactics, but not Tactics ADVANCED, where the beloved races of Ivalice originate.
He also said in a recent interview that Au Ra women are his favourite. Given that their concept art is completely different to how they look in-game...I'm not convinced he won't just add appease the vocal portion of the community that fawn over Viera even though we seriously need the existing playable races to have enhanced customisation.
I forget which interview in particular but I remember Yoshi-P saying they discarded the Viera because he wanted a more "bestial" race for 3.0...but then you compare the original concept art for the Au Ra males and they cannibalized the male Viera designs to make them more hyur-like (broad shoulders, tiny waist and DEM HIPS, the ladies arguably got it worse, going from draconic succubi to mi'qote with horns); agree about the feet, thing, btw.
Also, yes, having Seeq and Bangaa show up in Ivalice gives me a lot of hope that they can introduce Viera later.
People don't realize that means going back and changing every single foot slot to accommodate unique feet. Do you not fathom how utterly time consuming that would be? If they don't do this and just leave them bare foot, people would absolutely complain because that would entail they could not glamour foot options.
If they did put in Viera, it absolutely would be just another reskin of Au Ra/ Miqo'te/ Elezen. They made it very clear they do not want to have to deal with unique models of races (IE: animal feet, faces, etc).
Just let the Viera stuff die off already.
At this point i am about to suggest to someone to open a thread with this tittle: [Please Yoshi-P, give us Lupin Race] for two reasons.
1. I am tired of Viera threads
2. I want my wolfman.
Anyone who played Final Fantasy Tactics should know Ivalice is synonym of the Viera race!...
You never know with Yoshi-P and the dev team though, we can swim now yet there is no Blitzball!...
Funny enough, I do understand. It's a shame they didn't consider it beforehand, considering the fact that it is possible to work with as other games have shown. But then, FFXIV does have an incalculable amount of gear.
Dude, do it up. They might look too much like them kitty people, though. -Stares at own icon. Guilty as charged-
Yenno what? Forget separate beast races. Just lump them all together as one with subspecies (dog, cat, rabbit) and call it a day!
Spoken like a true Hyur. -Scratches at self. Bugs jump off- ...Kidding. (;
^
Probably that, I remember playing with Viera in a GBA game, also I didn't know FFXII's races are dead know, didn't they manage to save the realm!?...
This is FFXIV anyway and the producer and the dev team can revive any race they want, some Viera must have survived and they have multiplied ever since!...
Story-wise, background text in Tactics mentions a Cataclysm that wiped out every non-hume race at some point after XII but before Tactics, Tactics Advance (GBA) takes place in the far future of Ivalice then transports to a dream Ivalice, while Luso from A2 (DS) DOES go to a post-XII, post-Revenant Wings Ivalice.
Though with how FF14 has stated that Rabanastre was built on top of Lesalia... Wouldn't that mean FF12 actually takes place after the War of the Lions events do? Though I don't agree Viera should be a playable race, like others have stated enough with the fan service characters. We're more likely to get the wolfman race since its already coded in, meaning it would just need some tweaking or possibly Bangaa considering its showing them off in the raid content but who knows.
Not being able to wear shoes is a crap excuse not to put in a race (quoted from here.) EverQuest had their beastial races not wear hats or boots, and even other games do it. But they are fine in a game.
Now saying that making a working model in FF14 is difficult is something different.
XIV Ivalice is not the same as the Ivalice Alliance games, it's just filled with references to it, especially because Matsuno's in charge of the raid this time around, Rabanastre made more sense to be previewed because Dalmasca had already been mentioned in passing in XIV, while the realms of Tactics Ivalice had not. Bestiary entries in XII and background info in Tactics put Tactics as a sort of "middle ages" in Ivalice while XII is in the far past before the Cataclysm.
The difficulty with viera are the feet. its not the claws on the feet its the heel itself. Viera aren't wearing heeled footwear. It had to be designed like that because of the heel itself and that heel contributes to their height. Redesigning all footwear to not look really weird or distorted on a viera would probably be a good amount of work. That said the ivalice raid makes references to war of lions. However in the raid we run into seeq which are from tactics A2 and FFXII. We also run into Bangaa... specifically a group of them that appeared in FFXII. This leads to the question of whether the seeq and bangaa appeared because of the events that happened or are they actually in FFXIV and we just haven't been to the lands they inhabit yet.
How come noone has mentioned yet the thing a few friends and me agreed stood out most of all from the intro cutscenes to Rabanastre? The fact that the cutscene excessively focuses on zooming in on clawed feet, which almost made it feel like they were trying to hint at something with it. xD Honestly, I'd be all for seeing them add Viera since a lot of people really want them, and it'd be interesting to see something not entirely just different sized human with different ears/additional things stuck on. (Au Ra horns are their ears, so :P) As for the difficulty of adjusting boots, I think a large portion of current boots designs use a similar base model and just have different changes added on, and if not, I'd expect perhaps it'd be possible to have Viera boots built with such a concept.
No thanks, Viangaa on the other hand.....
yet no mention of the prima vista he theater ship ff9
kinda funny ff9 was just remastered and launched out of no where
I find the whole difficulty with the foot design thing just a poor excuse not to include Viera into the game. Either just do as a few players have already suggested and just make the race go barefoot until Viera hit a certain level (like lvl 50) and then start adding in unique shoe designs on gear for them, or give them normal but still unique looking feet with high heels for both barefeet and starter adventurer gear that both look similar to the FFXII Viera's own heels so people will still feel like the Viera they want if they don't like them without the heels on.
Well. In the raid you can see Bangaas and Seeqs. I do no discard other races show in future updates. Except maybe moogles, because Moogles are already in the game.
If you want to be a viera just roll elezen female and get the bunny outfit from the saucer. :p
