Let me be the first to pregame the salt so I don't have to make a thread later about it.

Salt: The impending tidal wave of house flipping jackassery is going to be absolutely insufferable.
Sugar: But if you had a place in the Goblet or Lavender Beds, you're gonna get something really neat even if you can't grab a Shirogane plot. (If you're in Mist, congrats, you remain in what is still The Best Neighborhood)
. . . the servers aren't even down yet.
Hi Kerwin and yes it's really disheartening actually
Yeah the crap fest housing wars havent started yet but I like this idea of pre-salt. I'm incredibly disheartened they chose to ignore how horribly implemented the housing system is and that they refuse to fix the issue but instead chose to invest the effort into simply making a new housing ward that fixes almost nothing. A few lucky people will finally get to own a house. The rest will be bought by people who own multiple accounts, the largest FC's will swoop in with multiple potential buyers thanks to the mind bogglingly stupid relocation service, and they will go on not fixing the problem in any number of ways they could do so.
People will show their true color.
Its a good chance to see who is an ass and who isn't .
Just make sure you don't be an ass yourself.
I think best thing to do is if someone does get a good claim on a house is to maybe either go somewhere else or lock the door of the house and hide inside to weather the storm..... haha
Can you imagine all the shouting and stuff that will be going on in the zone areas? Sheesh... I can already see it and the salt is real.
Lots of people will surely be claiming people stole from them. Friendships will be broken, lovers lost and neighbors alienated... This housing situation that was a bonfire of salt to begin with got "fixed" with someone pouring gasoline on it.
A new housing ward? Oh yea, and we are making it even cheaper! Yea, gil is worth a fraction it was when we first started putting housing out but... oh no, that's a lie, players are just richer now! Ya, that has a nicer ring to it...by golly! When everyone is rich, no one is...
Not a big fan of Shirogane (one day Ishgard housing will be made available...one day...right?) so will keep my house in the Goblet, its right in front of the plaza which looks like its getting one hell of a makeover! So I am not too bothered.
Might grab an apartment there though, to keep my inner weeb satiated.
the entire housing mess is disheartening. We game to unwind, relax, escape not experience the same stresses and anxieties of real life. My friends are new to FF and we made our FC, rose to rank 6, saved our gil and for what? The housing system is broken! As I see it if we do not get a house tonight we wait until the next housing boom and go through this anxiety again only to lose out again? And so many don't care? Claiming housing wasn't meant for everyone. that's bull its a game. I pay for every aspect and it should be accessible; make it expensive, make it take time and effort but make it so you can actually access it! It actually sucks that this game is so popular now because it means SE can sit on their high mountain and not care about the little man who pays their hard earned money for an incomplete game. So thank you for bringing the salt! Heck bring the vinegar and the paper cuts because We're pissed! fix your mess SE!
I’m on a low populated server, but despite this I was really nervous about later on today when the servers come back up. I was ready to camp out in the mist waiting for a small house to become available for my FC and because I’ve never experienced this before I was not looking forward to either being too late at getting a house, or being disappointed that none became available because let’s face it, the mist is a really nice area.
So as I’m want to do occasionally, tonight I checked the housing areas for any openings and low and behold there were two for lavender beds. I asked my hubby if he wanted me to grab one but he was like nah, wait until tomorrow I really would like a house in the mist. So fast forward to a few hours later I don’t know what it was, something told me to recheck the mist and so I did. To my surprise there was a small house available to purchase! So, I though oh boy, this is an opportunity I can’t miss, so I run to the area and the house is a really nice locale, overlooking the beach and really close to the vendors. As I’m about to purchase the house I see someone running towards me and I’m like eeeekkkkkk! My hubby is yelling at me “QUICK PURCHASE IT NOW!” And I’m really panicking cos I see this person making a beeline for me so what do I do but miss-click and accidentally summon my mount, so I quickly dismount and make the purchase. The guy who was running over to me? Yeah it just turned out he’d come to cheer me on and welcome me to the neighbourhood lol
I consider myself lucky enough that one the guy wasn’t an ass trying to steal the house I was about to purchase and also to get a house close to the update. Wish you guys luck and hope there’s not too many asshats out there.
This really showed me how bad the housing situation really is. Seeing as how we are 4 years into the game now it seems like they aren't really going to fix it x.x So glad we got ours back in 2014 when it was first released..I kept telling my FC if we don't get this large in LB they're gonna regret it..lol.
But yeah, def staying in Lavender Beds, I don't like Shirogane too much!
Although I find it difficult to believe that SE isn't truly aware, I have to wonder if they don't realize the extent of the issue. The Japanese datacenters have a total of 32 servers vs the 24 in NA data centers. The majority of their servers are sitting around 5k active users, with only 6 servers surpassing 10k users (one of them just barely) and their largest server is Tonberry with 14,668 active users.
NA on the other hand... the majority of servers are sitting between 10 - 15k active users. There are only 7 servers under 10k players and the lowest one is 8,521 active players which is still quite a bit more than the average server on the JP data center. Granted, there are still not enough houses for everyone even on the average JP server. However, I'm sure it must seem like a lot less of an issue on those servers. Consider now that NA has FIVE servers with more users than the most congested server on the JP datacenter, with another coming dangerously close: Balmung having over 20k active users and both Gilgamesh and Leviathan having over 16k users and Cactuar with over 15k and Excalibur at 14,679 and then Behemoth is quite close at 14,076.
I kind of wonder why the NA datacenter has less servers available when there are more active users using it. Not that adding more servers in general would solve the issue, but I'm curious. That being said I think that a combination of instanced housing and the current system would be a great solution. They already touched on it with apartments but the implementation was just way off the mark. They need to be bigger. They need to offer an outdoor space, even if it's just a balcony so people can do gardening. Heck, I was thinking something like the Inn in Kugane. That would be lovely as an apartment if it were bigger and we could actually go outside into that space.
Anyway, just throwing out why they may not think of it as the huge crisis that it is. The perspective is surely much different on the JP datacenter where ~5k people on a server is pretty normal. (Data taken from https://ffxivcensus.com/)
This will be another disappointing housing update, 10.000.000 active players (Claim by Square-Enix) across 66 worlds with just, wait for it, 2880 plots per world.
You don't need to be good at math to see an issue. Slight improvement pre update today, and I'm happy I already got Plot 11 lavender beds so it doesn't actually affect me at all, i get to swim right outside my house now! but, its never to late to make changes to this current system surely?
Can we not have something like pre-paid wards, like the retainer service, you pay an extra dollar or more for access to a select plot, not purchasable with gil but say gives you a token for small, medium or large depending on cost/duration or something in between?
This would be an interesting idea... Add a ward or two or three that require you to pay real life money for access to it. Although I could see those filling up just as fast and if the ward number is unlimited I could see people just putting in for specific plots and ending up with a bunch of empty houses. For example, if they did this in Shirogane you would just see plot 30, 16 and a few others taken and the rest would be empty. Or something. :(
Plus then there would be the people angry at SE profiting off of their broken system rather than fixing it.
I think the best solution is instanced housing on top of the current wards. This way people who don't care about housing in the wards would have no issue getting a house and it would clear up the wards otherwise for those that want it. And no one would be left out, even if they don't have a home in the wards, at least they'd have SOMETHING. But it needs to be better than the apartments; it needs to be equal with the housing seen in the wards and needs to be available to FCs.
Peasants on black friday. Thank Jezus I have a house already.
If they really care about building a neighbourhood and maintaining activitiy in the housing wards, they should have made it so that every month or so your plot is moved to a ward instance with similar activity. So people who spend a lot of time in their plot will eventually find that their neighbours have became also people who love to spend time in the ward. In a sense, "new neighbours moved in" or "we're moving to a more popular ward" kind of thing.
People who buy the plot just for farming or to resell and neglect their houses will soon find their plot moved into the dead wards, together with all the other plots that are neglected.
You would end up with lower number wards being the most active, and higher number wards mostly just farmland.
With this kind of system, it would be easy to auto-create new wards and auto-delete empty wards, making housing a resource that is automatically scaled, just like how dungeon instances are created dynamically, except housing wards are non-volatile.
In fact, it is even possible to go for a static system and preallocate housing wards so that the number of total plots match the number of active service accounts on the server. If you are "active", such as reaching level cap on at least one job and having an active sub, then you are guaranteed to be able to get a plot, except you may have no say in what size or location it is, but there will be a plot allocated due to you playing on that server actively.
Um? My post said the idea was interesting but ultimately had issues and I just addressed the fact that people don't think SE should be profiting off it's broken system. My suggested solution (mixed instanced + warded houses) didn't have a single mention of paying SE to do it. Basically I just want apartments to be better is what my solution boiled down to.
I see what you're going for but I think it would potentially screw with people who purposely aimed for houses near friends, so I think if they did something like that they should allow you to lock your ward if you have no interest in swapping wards.
Having survived the previous housing wars i am not giving any expectation to it. But it really makes me wonder why the hell such a crappy system can survive for 4 years though...
I ain't gonna buy a house but I AM gonna stoke the fires once they are made. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Between the launcher errors with the patch download, I have a feeling that the servers won't be stable and Shirogane will be an utter mess.

Seems to be working out for me... thank the 12.
All the hype of the new housing already reached it's peak for me and now it's starting to dwindle.
I'm kind of coming to terms with the fact that I probably won't be able to get the plot I want.
Which is fine. More money to save for other things. And who knows, maybe a great spot will open up in another district.
We're close.
I can feel it.
All I'm going to say is I've been nervous ALL DAY because of this housing rush. I've picked my plots and the wards I'm going to try first, practiced my runs to determine the fastest route to my plots of choice, I created a busy macro so I can't be disturbed by trade requests(cause I'm sure some ppl going to try some shady stuff), and now I'm just sitting here waiting... the wait is KILLING me. I'm going to probably be a bit upset if I don't get at least one of the four plots I picked out being honest lol... luckily i'm just looking for a small so my odds are a bit better than the people trying to snag the larges.
I'm the opposite. Going in completely blind. No routes pre-chosen. No goal in sight. I'm just gonna buy!
It's gonna be a bloodbath.
Can't wait to hear the stories of naives dudes getting rekt by a***** :3
I'm in the housing war this year, rip to me. o/
My route is planned, my heart is steeled, however the ensuing carnage may break it horribly. This is war, I must be ready!
12 min to House-mageddon...counting...
Good luck to everyone! Let's hate eachother afterwards ok? :>
IF USA got sudden blackout for some reasons ...
