+$3 a month for 1 Char. The $4.99 is just the service fee

Unlike most modern MMOs that are pay to play SE likes to charge you for each character you make, 3 bucks a pop.
You are looking at the account fee, right under that it states the following
* One character save slot as well as a basic service fee is required to play FINAL FANTASY XIV.
* The price for one character save slot is $3.00. An additional $3.00 charge will apply for every additional character save slot.
it is still a discount(12.99 is the original price, 9.99 is the discount price if you go monthly, 7.99 is the monthly price if you do a 6 month plan)
That means you have six characters?
On the six month note, I didn't think the bill tallied our character fee (if only a single character) longer than a month.
i.e. 180 day service fee + 30 day character fee
instead of 180 day service fee + 180 day character fee
T'would make sense to me for the single character bid.
I can understand a player who is trying to live out three separate city/GC storylines may not be interested in activating one character for the whole six months. Or even brothers sharing the same account and one stops, but the other continues, etc.
The price are still the normal price for me also. I have 1 extra char the total price for the game and one extra char should be about$45-$50 but I'm getting hit with $60-$70.
Price should be $29.95 For the game+1 char slot for a 180days and an extra $3 per month for each extra char slot
so $3 per month + 180days(6months)= $18 So. $29.95+$18.00=47.95 My SE account still tells me I have to pay like around $65. Maybe I misunderstood.
For two characters and 180 days, it may say something around 62.74ish if USD.
I think.
Yeah, but that's still at the normal price right?
nope, you are misreading
the 1 character slot is NOT included in that 4.99 per month, you missed what it said directly under that as follows
* One character save slot as well as a basic service fee is required to play FINAL FANTASY XIV.
* The price for one character save slot is $3.00. An additional $3.00 charge will apply for every additional character save slot.
Why do they separate the service fee from the initial character fee?
No one can even play the game unless they have a character, so no one would ever pay the service fee only...
Some of the information on the billing site is out of date. For instance, when reading the FAQ on Crysta, it still says that it can only be purchased in increments of 500, 1000, etc. However, they've already said that the system is changing so that you can specify the exact amount of Crysta to purchase.
The problem is that it's hard to tell exactly how much of the website is out of date. Considering that billing goes live tomorrow, this isn't a good thing. I know that they have a lot going on with the revamp of FFXIV, but providing customers with accurate information regarding billing should be a top priority.
Beyond that, I'm hopeful that they streamline their billing system come 2.0. It's too convoluted now, with the "account basic service" being separate from "options" such as characters. Considering that a character is necessary to play the game, it doesn't seem like much of an "option", which is confusing to many people. And when people DO figure out what's going on, I don't think they appreciate it much.
As a side note, I really hope that they remove the character fee entirely for 2.0. I'd like to start a new character to experience 2.0 from the ground up, but I'm not going to do it if it means I have to either pay more or dump my current character.
Tell me what's wrong with this please?

Yup you are right...forgot it was on the 180 bulk lol... omg I'm such fool -_-... /hides
It gets tricky if you don't want both characters for 180 days and only one of them, but still want the discounted service fee.
I got the 6 month plan an deleted my 2 alts and made sure they were unselected when I went to billing. Total- 47.94, thats 29.94 + 18 for the 6 month char. It was rly not that hard at all, the payment, the math, the site navigation. IDK why its so hard for everyone. I put the payment site in the 2nd post so it would b seen by all easy.
