Should Ultimate Coil Weapon have 5 slots?

Hello all,

I've never posted before, but the reward for Ultimate Coil of Bahamut makes me want to say this.

I personally think that the weapon getting an extra slot is a good reward, however, I think it should be similar to the 5 slotted Wondrous Tails three line gear rewards. While 3 slots is cool, I feel something as weighty as "Ultimate" shouldn't have only a "cool" reward. It should have an eye-popping, drool-inducing, brain-exploding reward in order to truly satisfy and gratify those who finish it. Another reason is the glamour of the weapon just isn't enough in my opinion. While gold Dreadwyrm is cool...I think you know where I'm going, yes?

Thus, I am probing for interest on this subject.

I think the reason this wouldn't fly is that Ultimate is based on skill, investment, and finding a good group to grind it with.

Wondrous Tails is luck.

I agree. To be honest, I'm glad they decided to give us 3 materia slots instead of 2 (I wasn't expecting the weapon to be better in any way and just for glamour). I was mostly excited for the actual fight. The weapon is just a bonus :)

It'd be cool for 4.2? but really matter.

We're in the fight to get horribly brutalized, incredibly salty, and maybe eventually beat it to a bunch of exhausted woohoos. It's a fight where we're finally not fighting against gear walls, no need to introduce it again.
I don't think anyone in my group was remotely interested in the glowy dreadwyrm weapons anyway.

I suppose I was leaning more towards the rareness of the Wondrous Tails having 5 slots. I don't know how hard Ultimate will be, but if very few people will be able to obtain the weapons from it, then the rareness should be equal to or greater than that of Wondrous Tails. Thus, if it is as rare as the WT 3 line rewards, I feel the slots should be equal in number. I also think skill should be rewarded higher than luck, thus 5 slots at maximum ilvl would fit that. Just my thoughts on it.

Gotta agree that weapon stats on this one are pointless, but the Bahamut mount would be a bit too far. There is already a crowd calling for this content to be deleted, calling it a waste of resources that is ruining the patch, don't want to antagonize them further by adding a cool mount.

That's wholly dependant on how many players actually beat the thing. Ultimate's purpose isn't, "I need to clear this for gear." It's not Savage content. It's entire purpose is for the best players to test themselves. Any reward is just a trophy, but it's already so heavily gated.

Wondrous Tails, on the other hand, is accessible to literally everyone. That's a pretty key factor in the gear cycling of FFXIV. Anyone can make a very powerfully geared character with a little time investment since we have many options to do so.

Locking gear that's so far ahead of anything the vast majority of the players could reach while it's current content would make many players angry.

I simply don't agree. The purpose of Ultimate is to be the ultimate content. It is locked behind skill, and high skill should get a high reward. Just like high luck gets a high reward, and I don't believe for a second everyone has access to high luck. If that were true everyone win the lotto. ;D

Everyone has a chance at some luck I agree, but I would argue the only thing keeping a person from high skill (barring extreme circumstances) is their choice at how they want to play the game. Thus, I believe the ultimate content for skilled players should have the ultimate trophy. I can understand some people being frustrated about not having the time to do content, but that's life. You choose one thing over the other. The people who really want something will go for it, and I see nothing wrong with inspiring people to go after something that is hard to obtain. Many things in life are hard to obtain, and people have to choose which of those they want to go after.

As for a mount, I guess the only thing I have to say about that is not everyone enjoys mounts, but not everyone enjoys weapons either. So, if we are going to get one but not the other, I want the one we are going to get to be something I feel good about having in my inventory.

Having 5 material slots doesn't really matter to me much, but it should probably be on armor pieces excluding the belt imo for future Ultimate content. 5 on the weapon seems like a bit much as a concept since it's pretty much the biggest dps upgrade.

I wouldn't have minded if they made Ult weapons higher item level than Sav. If it's really that much harder then I think the raiders earned it. Diadem had 280 weapons when Savage was 275 so exceptions can be made.

When you're done with Ultimat Savage, you're done with this tier.

When 4.2 hits, the old weapon will be replaced by the new crafted or primae weapon.

The weapon you get in Ultimate is just a trophy.

Alta roite has to be the most boring Raid mount to date. No special theme to separate it from any other regular mount. I'd be all for a bahamut mount.

Extra stats (which is all materia slots are) is not "extremely special". It is at the start of the patch cycle if you get it from WT, but not from ultimate

The point is that this weapon will probably be better anyway thats special enough don't you think? Not to mention that it would be extremly special if a dropped raid weapon would've 5 slots.

It's just a trophy weapon and ultimately a newer BiS because +40 of any stat you desire can be a plus. Really won't change things, we have over 3 months of this tier left.

Second, for people asking for higher ilvl you must think they only work on one-patch-at-a-time in this game. You'd be silly to think they aren't already working on the next Inter-dimensional Rift (Savage) tier already and have already pre-set the ilvls that it will require/drop.

Yah I was just making up a dumb example.
I just find it a little disappointing that they can make up entire suits of gear/weapons/mounts/minions/trophies for PvP seasons, but can only make up glowy reskins for Ultimate prizes.
Whatever though, if the fight is good the weapons could look like 1.0 junk. It's already a step up from Second Coil Savage where it dropped nothing unique at all apart from the title.

Well, no!

It's been quite some time that the raiding community ask for harder content for the sake of doing hard content.
According to them, they would do it even without reward.
So why waste time for a big reward if the community says it's not necessary for them?
