O5-12 predictions

So, given that in the Interdimensional Rift we have fought bosses from FF5 and in the story, Omega is pitting us against foes from myths that were beaten by heroes, what do you think the future tiers will have? I think the next tier will be FF4 Arch Fiends Cagnazzio, Barbaccia, Runicante and finally Zeromus. Typically in remakes of FF games 1-6 there has been a post-game zone where we fight bosses from other FF games and this is kinda what Omega in ff14 feels like, plus the boss music im this tier is all FF5, I cant imagine us fighting another 8 FF5 bosses, especially because O1-O3 were the "4 generals of exdeath" (the 4th one we didn't fight was the final boss in Weeping City of Mach). So 3 arch fiends and Zemus with Ff4 boss music could be the new tier. Plus the savage version of Zemus can have him transform into Zeromus for some Big Bang fun.

I do think there's going to be bosses we *don't* see, just because they're too iconic for their specific game rather than just the franchise as a whole. Sephiroth or Kefka, for example.

Oh god the 4 fiends from IV would be amazing - though I'd also like them as a primal series like the warring triad

Sephiroth would probably create confusion since we already have Sephirot. And the achievement for beating EX refers to the original. Though I wouldnt mind fighting him in a trial.

We get to fight HEROES from other FF's? It would make sense for this to happen in Omega. I mean, villains from the fairytales he takes inspiration from are defeated by heroes. And his goal is to test us and learn from us. So what better way to test us than to pitch us against the ones who defeated the villains? Theres no reason all the contestants in Omega need to be evil, right? Besides, they dont need to be the real heroes, but representations conjured by Omega.

Not gonna fight 25 foot versions of Cloud or Bartz. If they were our size it would look silly still. Humanoid bosses tend to larger than us to make them more menacing and "larger than life" but having a big version of Cloud, when he's supposed to be 5'7, would be silly.

Small humanoid bosses are usually for dungeons.

Size would be an issue indeed. I actually cut that out of my message to fit the cap limit. Though I think it would be somethig worth thinking over. A larger target ring would improve positionals. But the remaining issue would be visibility of the boss itself.

Omega 9-12 could be revamped versions of the Ruby, Emerald and Diamond weapons before culminating with a fight against Omega itself.

FF1 bosses could be a possibility too

For whatever reason, using actual protagonists/antagonists from the franchise really bugs me. I'm not sure why I draw the line where I do (and it's not even consistent; I have no issue with ExDeath, for instance), but the idea of fighting Cloud or Zidane or SIN or Ultimecia makes me roll my eyes and pray that doesn't happen (that said, I like the the idea of the Four Fiends, and they would certainly fit the raid structure nicely).

It's also very difficult to speculate future bosses with the Full Franchise approach, as they could literally be anything. Assuming that the game is going to stick to FFV, however, makes speculation quite a bit easier. This is actually pretty likely; not only is the setting itself, as a whole, straight out of FFV, the primary antagonist (Omega) uses its FFV appearance, and I think it's a pretty safe bet that we'll be fighting Omega as the final battle.

So what other FFV bosses are likely, given that the final boss of the game has been used already? Well, half of this current tier (Catastrophe and Halicarnassus) are Demons of the Rift, so that would be a likely source of inspiration for the other fights. Melusine, Calofisteri, Apanda, and Twintania are obviously already elsewhere in the game (although that didn't stop them with Halicarnassus); that leaves Necrophobe, Azulmagia, Wendigo, and the Triton/Nereid/Phobos trio. Boom, full tier right there. Gilgamesh is also a possibility, as is the Magissa and Forza duo, and as some have mentioned, a fight against a heroic character isn't entirely out of the question. The final tier, then, could be Gilgamesh - Forza/Magissa - Warriors of Light party - Omega.

There's also the possibility that we'll see Shinryu again; given the relationship between Shinryu and Omega, it seems strange that the only appearance they have together is a quick 3.56 cutscene, especially when the latter's raid series references FFV so heavily. On the other hand, we already have an 8-man fight against Shinryu, so that might be a bit redundant to include in the raid as well.

What will Omega's musical theme be since FF5 boss music is already being used for previous tiers, I wonder.

It seems to have a different theme from the ones we've heard already in this video, so it could use that. Alternatively, Soken could compose something original.

I wouldn't be too surprised if we ended up seeing Ultimecia, Kuja or Kefka next.

Anything is possible, but i dont think this is terribly likely. I would need to go back and rewatch some scenes/reread some dialogue, but my interpretation was that Omega couldnt understand what it was about a hero that made them capable of overcoming the odds to beat the villians they clearly should have lost to. And if Omega cant understand what makes something strong, it probly cant recreate it accurately enough for its purposes. So we get to "play hero" and Omega gets to do a science experiment.

FFVIII, Ultemica Castle, either facing off against bosses in there, or iconic bosses in the game like Jumbo Cactuar, Metallic Cactuar and Tonberry King.

Or we could fight GFs.

If they DO bring in Greg, I hope it's an actual guest appearance by the Gilgamesh already in the game, rather than a "copy" created by Omega. It could add a bit of humor for Omega to rope the guy in to its shenanigans.

In fact, Haukke Halicarnassus got her name in essentially the way Shinryu did: people saw her, and named her after a creature from their legends.

I'd have a little doubt they knew at that time while making Haukke HM that Hali would be re-introduced as a boss in it's current version. The Hali in Omega shares abilities of the original FFV Hali (critical hit, ribbit, holy) whereas the Haukke version does not. So we can at least conclude that the Hali in Haukke is not a reference to the FFV Hali except for perhaps being drawn from the void (and thus people naming after "void" legends).

Oh, without a doubt. I agree with you: SE named Haukke:Halicarnassus LONG before they ever expected they'd be adding the FFVTribute:Halicarnassus to the game. The explanation for how the Haukke one got her name is clearly an ass-pull. Nevertheless, it works well enough.

I believe midgardsormr is the equivalent of Shinryu from FFV, even somewhat similar in appearance in his true form. I expect to fight him or a copy of him, as I predict Midgardsormr is the one who originally wounded Omega and chased him to this planet.

Since Ivalice is a thing, maybe bosses from Vagrant Story?

ive been dying to fight Black Waltz since we first encountered gigi/vivi in the hildy story quest...

I have to echo previous sentiments that I'm somehow annoyed by the prospect of just implanting old Final Fantasy bosses, but at the same time was perfectly okay with the current tier. That is, the idea immediately disgusts me, but the team usually handles it in a way that's palatable to me. That said, I still love and want to fight them.

Omega lends itself to anything too which opens the door incredibly wide. I originally thought that, like, the next tier would be finishing off the demons of the Rift (using the same excuse as Halicarnassus for any duplicates) culminating in Neo-Exdeath in O8 but then ... Savage ... so ...
Another thing I think Omega lends itself to, which is pretty exciting, is reviving old XIV "bosses." Neo-Bahamut or Neo-Shinryu doesn't seem unreasonable if Omega tries to create a being based off the expectations and 'recent' mythos of them by Eorzeans. (Funnily enough, Neo-Bahamut is dampened by Unending Coil for me, lol, but there's Bahamut-ZERO and Neo-Bahamut and Bahamut-SIN in the FF7 canon [maybe more] and we know it's Yoshida's favorite!) [another pet theory of mine, before the Unending reveal, was that Omega might pull memories of 'Twintania' from "some adventurer" or Alisaie to create the Rift Twintania, lol]

Also with someone asking about Scarmiglione, I always thought it'd be neat to do it like our now finale Exdeath fight, his cloaked form is the "first form" then he falls off the arena and jumps back up as his "undead" form. :P I think it's difficult to keep Rubicante's "fully heal the party before the fight" thing, but I'd be interested in seeing them try. (That's what makes Rubicante Rubicante to me, not the fluttering cloak)

I also have to echo the idea that Midgardsormr is XIV's actual Shinryu and that Omega will recreate him to spar with us. If we're doing the Interdimensional Rift and we don't have a Necrophobe/Gilgamesh scene I'll pretty disappointed too...

FF7's weapon or even protagonists from previous Final Fantasies could work, I agree. The "humanoid bosses are too small" can instantly be handwaved by Omega making them larger than life (also I really hate small bosses in terms of hitting positionals so...). They needn't be Syrcus Tower level huge either, but I'm not sure where the perfect middle ground would be.

Man this expansion has really thrown me for a loop in terms of speculation. We sort of knew that we'd be fighting dragons, allagan machinery, Darnus and then Louisoix (though not how!) in the 2.0 raid, and the 3.0 raid you always figured it'd be Quickthinx, Alexander, goblins, robots etc. but this raid series? No idea! "Probably fake recreations of other bosses from maybe other Final Fantasies made into Hydaelynic [sic?] myth"

Since parts of Ivalice are now actual locations in Eorzea, it would make sense that they would have their own stories and legends to pull from as well.
Figure the Vagrant Story stuff would likely fall into that since the raid was indicated to be primarily Tactics with a bit of 12.

I think they can actually pull it off: while he charges Inferno he can spawn some fire orbs that grants ppl around them a full heal and some for of safety from inferno, and if the orbs are not collected in time he gather them back and he gets healed instead or something like that

New speculation(im bored):

Omega calls us back to fight in the "Gammascape". We find *drumroll* Final Fantasy 4 tier!

First boss: Dark Elf - anyone wearing metal armor is paralyzed for the entire fight unless your party has a bard that is sufficiently spoony.
Second boss: The Four Fiends - start with one(lets say Rubicante so he can get his fair fight as you are starting out at full strength), and the next one swaps in as soon as you do enough damage to the one in front of you... or alternately, fight two at a time(probly fire + air, earth + water for the combos) or even fight all four at once for maximum chaos
Third boss: Giant of Babil - this would be more of a "mini-dungeon" raid as you would have to enter the giant and fight your way to the core and its defense system
Final boss: Zemus/Zeromus - same setup as exdeath/neo
I suppose you could sub in Golbez for the elf if the magnetic field/spoony bard requirement is too harsh(he could replace the giant also, but why would you want to do that?) and then just change the fight order

Golbez would be too similar in both appearance and skills as Exdeath. Golbez, like Exdeath, is a big blue knight that casts tier 3 elemental magic and Meteor also.

Instead, I wager that an FF4 tier could be:

1.0: Ogopogo
2.0 Plague Horror
3.0 Four Fiends (similar to the 4 mechs of Brute Justice, from Alexander)
4.0 Zemus/Zeromus.

For the Zemus fight, I would want it such that you NEED to caster/ranged LB3 a bunch of "Zeromus' Malice/Zeromus Mind" adds when he's at 5% or they wipe the raid. For Savage, this holds true around 70%. This would mimic the fact that Zeromus isn't born until Zemus is defeated with Meteor during his encounter in FF4. The Savage version could also grant you a "Crystal" that you use with Duty Action to allow you to damage him (or maybe to negate the damage from Big Bang).

The problem there being, that the fights must accommodate all team comps (assuming you still stick to 2-2-4). Maybe just make it so that you need to AoE them down in general (and make that really tough), and having an AoE LB just makes it a whole lot easier?

On random silly speculation, some FF2 could be fun too, especially if you put the setting in Pandaemonium (much like O1-4 was in the Rift Castle almost exclusively).

O5: Zombie Borghen! (Would be Tiamat, but she's taken atm)
O6: Beelzebub
O7: Astaroth
O8: Emperor/Light Emperor (DoS remake for the latter)


The last fight I can see him swapping between his light and dark sides and changing his tactics accordingly. Dark Emperor would focus on status ailments and black magic such as Flare and Blaze, while Light Emperor would be more focused on self-support (self-buffs/healing) while casting Holy, Banish, and similar light spells. Both sides would have their supermove as "Starfall," which would be nice and fitting. Extra points if there's an "Ultima Tome" item that pops up to be used temporarily to weaken/block certain mechanics, but using it gives you a long-duration debuff that will kill you if you use it again while you have the debuff (reference to how it was such a powerful tome). This would force the entire party to pay attention and someone to grab it if they don't have the debuff.

He has his "enhancements", and he has plenty of creations he can release onto the party. Plus he was a memorable fight from the original, even if he wasnt the most dangerous thing there. By that same token, you could do something fun with the Magus Sisters too.

I guess, just to change gears here - is there anything indicating that it will be bosses from other FFs, and not just a continuation of V? I'm a little confused as to why everybody seems to think that we'll be getting stuff from other entries when the entire theme of the raid has been one game in particular, in a larger context than the bosses themselves.

Namely because they've already used Exdeath. Since he's the 'big name' enemy and 'big bad' of FFV, there's really nowhere higher to go. While it was possible that they could have been building to a Neo-Exdeath, Savage already had him appear. So with nowhere else really to go in FFV other than doing much more random, less famous bosses, it's logical that they might move to another game. Not to mention that the setup of the Omega storyline (observing many universes and reconstructing possibly fictional characters from them) provides them almost unlimited bandwidth in what sorts of classic FF bosses they can choose. I kind of hope that we don't have a situation like Neo-Exdeath again though. While it was cool to give a treat to Savage Raiders, they're already getting the Ultimate Raid series, and it's a little annoying to gate content away from Normal Raiders.

I'm not so sure I'm too keen on them reusing the same switcheroo that they used for exdeath and Ned

We had a "mad scientist" boss already in like A5. Also the bosses I mentioned were the final bosses in the last dungeon that guarded the best weapons. These are probably less random than Living Liquid or Alte Roite were.

Magus Sisters would be epic, but I would want them to be a primal, honestly. But they are contenders for an FF4 themed raid.

I was going to say it should be a boss with multiple forms or phases but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case. Brute justice transformed in to his golden winged form at a certain % (the amount off the top of my head eludes me) but I recall the manipulator didn't have a massive transformation so much as extra legs.
