Has anyone thought on the idea of racial skills and stat bonuses and if they would help to expand the diversity of ones character and job when jobs are implemented?
Or has this already been brought up in a previous thread and i am just blind:cool:

I don't mind at all but some ppl won't like it because it would make some races better at some classes/jobs than others....
I will only support this is we get a Fab trait
Special animations and stuff are cool for each race but stats? I got tired of being unable to be the best mage I could be because my race of choice knee-caped me in doing so.
I've always liked substancial racial bonuses in games. I played EQ a ton and the racial bonuses there were initially HUGE (DEs had awesome night vision, ogres were immune to stun, trolls had regen, etc.) and it made the races (and indirectly, the world) feel distinct and tangible. If you wanted to MIN/MAX your warrior you didn't chose a DE, which made DE warriors sort of rare (and noteworthy).
I do believe there is a financial component involved here though--as mentioned in a previous post, many people want to be whatever race and class they want, and don't want to feel penalized if their lalafel warrior has fewer HPs than a race that is 5 times larger. I suspect flattening racial "in game" bonuses and allowing people to be whatever race/class they want may mean more subscribers, which means more money over the life of the game.
I am 100% not interested in racial stat bonuses. I'd like to be an Elezen Mage, and be just as good as the next guy. I particularly don't care to be a Lalafell simply for the fact that their race was given more magical prowess than any other. It's a fine way to pigeon hole people into playing things they'd rather not simply because the game kind of urged them in that direction. Animations and things are fair enough without pre-rolled stats to determine what race is better suited to do what.
No thanks, my friend. I'd gladly pass on this on any given day. It hinders the freedom of choices. The more choices we can make concerning our character, the better. Heh, I'm totally not interested in hearing people complaining over other people's class choices because their character's race has better stats for such-and-such. Nah. Again, no thanks. Lol.
I'm for racial stats. And, for those that may not have noticed, they're in the game now. Different races have different stats, albiet not very big differences. I'm also against the "everyone gets a trophy" mindset. You want to do something out of your characters bias, you have to work extra hard at it. I'm currently leveling lalafell as gladiator, I have less str, vit, and hp than the galka. However my play ability will make up for it. Sure, I might be passed up when searching for party here and there, but it happens. I make a hell of a good conjuror, I do ok with MRD. If you have your mind set on a certain job or group of jobs, plan accordingly. I am 85nin and 85whm in ffxi, I managed to make it work. I didn't do PLD because I don't much care for pld, but it would be more difficult being a taru. Let the game be more immersive, don't fight to play it for stats and facts, treat it as another life, and you'll enjoy it a lot more.
nooooooo please no.
it will piss me off if my lala just like my taru is not as good mele then others. yes i started as mage, yes my mains are mage. but no ...hell no do i only want to play those classes. this game doesn't involve 12free accounts to play 12 toons with 12 diff jobs. it's 1, and i expect to be the best at all of them just the same as i would if i just log the frig out to the next toon. i don't spend months ..years leveling and getting black belt and best gears to do less damage then others ...its a stupid system. i don't welcome this again, it's one of the few things i hated in ffxi.
At then end of the day the biggest issue with a Racial bonus system is that if it doesn't give a boost in some way to ALL jobs and classes in a game where you can switch jobs at the drop of a hat.
You are restricting people in a system where you have intentionally made it open. FFXI was very "Light" on racial bonuses only being a few stat points here and there but even then many players felt the limitations. I for several years had no interest in ever playing a mage so I never had an issue rolling Elvaan, but after years playing as a Thief I decided I'd finally play a mage...why should I be punished for that?
Ya, I like the differences in stat bonuses. I'd like them to be substantially different, since it makes sense that different species have different advantages and disadvantages.
I am also against the idea that everyone can be a master at everything. So the idea that everyone has every job at max level (and thus expects you to have every job at max level) is a little disheartening. There is no choice you can make with your character that has any real individualizing effect on your character. This person is a mage, nope.. he's everything; that person is a ranged melee, nope... he's everything.
For me, being able to play a role in a party/situation is what is so rewarding about MMORPG. The idea that only people who specialize in my class/job can do this is what makes the class/job exciting. If anyone can switch to it immediately it feels like it cheapens the experience.
I try to be patient and understand the people who want to enjoy every aspect of the game, but I really do think it takes away from the overall experience when every character walking around in the game-world is exactly the same.
For racial stats XIV is NOT the way to go... one of XIV's charms is that you can play all the classes on one character without feeling a limit because of your stats or anything, if they added racial bonuses then that would mean if you wanted to be a certain class well you had to be a certain race.... it just doesn't suit FFXIV we don't want the Hellsguard being Paladins and all the Seekers of the Sun being bards etc. etc. ...
Well it doesnt have to be a stat bonus. It could be racial abilites or emotes just something to set the races apart from each other besides the way they look.
I prefer it the way it is personally. I like that I can pick whichever race I want without being hindered in some aspect. SWTOR has racial emotes and I never saw them being used at all. Most if not everyone I know prefers it this way, especially coming from XI. In fact, you are the first person in a very long time I have seen suggest this at all.
wtf is an ect
No thanks.
They're already there but slight enough that it doesn't matter. It also helps that stats don't do much anyways.
If they're big enough to be noticeable, elitists will jump all over it.
If they're not big enough to be noticeable...well, you see how it is now.
As for me....well, looking different is good enough.
Many of you crying about how unfair racial stats are are forgetting one thing XIV has that XI didnt: clans. If you wanted to be a Galka mage, pick hellsguard, if you wanted to tank or DD, pick Seawolf. They could easily do this with each race and find a nice compramise.
No to substantial racial stat differences. All that would do is create community bias against certain race/job combos. Essentially you'd be creating a system in which certain races simply can't play certain jobs because they'd be terrible in comparison to others and no one would invite them to groups anyway. In a game where you can play every class on a single character, this is an awful idea. Maybe in a game where you choose one class and stick with it that would be fine but this isn't that kind of a game. I play every class to a degree and I would like to play them all well without paying an additional $3 for each class type.
i just cant help but to connect the idea of racial stat bonuses with real life.
its the exact same thing as saying white people have a naturally higher intellect while native americans have a naturally lower intellect. Obviously Intellect has absolutely nothing to do with race at all.
so, how does it make sense that a Roegadyn, or a Galka for that matter, to not be able to naturally be just as adept at a stat as any other race?
Big no from me, dislike not being able to play the character/class you want because you cant preform the same as others because the race you chose.
We don't have ANY traits to begin with, so Race-independent traits might be a bit too far-fetched, on the other hand, each race has different starting stats, the problem here is that the system is so useless that stats mean jackshit and only the weapon you hold makes any difference.
>Only Dwarves have beards
>Dwarves can't magic
>MFW I want to play a bearded mage.

racial stats to unbalance job/class to race
+
Money per character
=
profit$
but everything you've unlocked on your first character will be unlocked on your secondary characters
I would pay for this
In the grand scheme of balance, I'm against significant racial stat differences.
Initial, Everquest and FF11 had this realism effect in there. But I think it'll lead to further alienation.
The large races had significant combat advantages, but at a price of not being able to enter most cities ~ less vendor access.
The way players want to stack a certain class on Primal fights, I feel will probably discriminate further to excluding certain races for this stacking.
A certain moment stands out in my mind on racial stats. I recall being in a party just outside of Jeuno (or inside, the route toward a tower guarded by gigas). A level 29 Tarutaru Warrior that had full HP, Protect and Shell up, wearing chain mail, had a shield (don't know if it was leveled), got hit once, then within a few seconds, the enemy followed up with a Screwdriver attack and killed him. As a White Mage responsible for healing, that moment horrified me pretty bad.
I honestly can't remember if he had Berserk or Defender up, his sub job and/if it was leveled, and I'm pretty sure I didn't have Stoneskin yet. It left no room for error, he had to be topped off or he would die. He tried tanking again and I believe the party didn't work out in the end. I couldn't keep him alive against that mob. Versus a Galka Warrior tank that got hit with two consecutive Screwdriver attacks and still remained standing.
When racial stats play that much of a difference, I have to say that I'm against racial stats.
Hell no to racial stats / traits. I HATED FFXI for this reason, I started as a taru BLM then went onto WAR and NIN and by the end levels I suffered a loss of 300~ HP compared to the other races, and at a max of 1000 HP 300 extra would help alot.
It's actually there since day one: Raw food and races
3% bonus to the stat given by the food.. If you're eating it with the right race.
Frankly it doesn't make a huge difference, it's just a 5min buff like Protect
Used to be 5% when we were able to alter our stats to trigger Divine favor.. Or with a +3 favored raw food.
I believe something will change in 1.21 though, let's see what happens.
We already have racial and clan stat differences -- No one's noticed because despite popular belief, it's not a bad thing lol. Racial traits would be good and makes sense since a lot of people want FFXIV to be a "standard MMORPG" standard MMORPGs have racial/clan traits as well, some of which does overpower a race over another.
Its all fine and good that everyone will be the same but isnt there anything that you would like to set you apart from the rest of the races besides the way you look.
If there were racial stat differences boosted to the likes of XI it seems that there could be a racial quest thats repeatable every so often and would have rewards similar to rse gear from XI for each specific race that was a class driven piece of gear accessory or w/e.
Its just and idea to bring a little more diversty to the game is all. It just kinda of bothers me that everyone will be the same and do the same amount of dmg, curing, dmg reduction no matter what you are.
This was just a thought and a opinion of somtheing that might make the game a little more appealing, though i can see where all of you that dont like the idea are coming from. Im just glad no one has blasted me to bad yet for even bringing it up.
It doesnt have to be stat differences for that, I just dont understand why there has to be conformity when there can be a little flavor. Either way w/e they decide to do with 2.0 and all i'm behind them 100%
Sorry to get all technical on ya'll but, race is really not an appropriate word I think.
Species would probably be better.
No thank you for racial stat differences. I like it for games where 1 character = 1 class, but in a game that seems to say "you can do anything by equipping a weapon" I don't like it.
Right now in this game I play the race I want for cosmetic reasons only and I like it that way.
If they did make the racial stats different than the small difference they have currently, I would hope they also allow free race changes.
I might be for other non-stat related racial bonuses depending on what they are.
