Gear Model Swaping

At level people will always pick the best gear for the class they are playing. This leads to a bunch of people wearing the same gear. The only way to create diversity would be to add a bunch of gear with repeating stats (hard to do) or allow model swapping (easy to do). If model swapping were allowed for gear then we could look like we are wearing any piece of gear we wanted to but still get the stats of that best piece of gear for our class.

Some limitations would be expect such as not being able to use a model of a piece of gear you didn't own. They could even limit melee from using mage models and mages from using melee models that way we don't have a healer who looks like they could tank or a tank that looks like he could only take a few hits.

In FFXI I used a program to change the model of the gear my char wore all the time. Well I was still wearing the same stuff to me it looked like I was wearing something very different. I'm suggesting it be made so we can all see these changes in FFXIV.

All they saw was a mithra in rather normal gear but on my screen I'm wearing thf AF and look like a fox. I'm not suggesting adding it so I can make my char look like a fox again although that would be cool. I'm suggesting that we be allowed to change the appearance of our gear to whatever gear we want and for all to be able to see that change.

No I don't want this. I want cosmetic slots for everyone. something everyone else can see, not just me.

If it's client side changes (only you can see) I can see it happening officially, since I don't think seeing a bunch of reindeer beating on bosses and world HNMs visually appealing lol (since we already can do this for the most part and it just looks silly xD), but if it's for everyone to see, maybe they'll keep it within confines of your class/job -- For example mages can only visually swap to other mage line gear that isn't class/job restricted as you said.

You didn't read it. I asked that it be made so all can see the changes.

You can already do this as unlegit and against the TOS as you did on XI.

I dont think its good to make it client side only, everyone would have difference visions then, SE designer makes a piece of gear he wants you to use then you just go change it and make it look worse, not nice for him!

Please read I am NOT asking this to be client side. I am asking to be able to swap out one gear model with another and for ALL to see that change.

Edit: I'm not talking about making my own models and textures either I'm talking about using the ones already in the game.

Yeah, this would be so nice. This feature is becoming more and more common, this day in age I am disappointed that a new MMO that pushed load and run requirements for good graphics and asthetics passed up on this.

and the funny part is that it could be implemented in such an easy way.....

two tabs Gear and Cosmetic

you would use all the same gear for both sections, but what ever is placed in the cosmetic tab will have all its stats disabled.

Gear requirements of class and job will still apply, but level would not.
gear in cosmetic slot would not take "damage".
if you dont have anything in a cosmetic slot, then that slot will show what ever you have in the gear tab slot.

Doing it would be easy and there is more then one way it. If they do decide to do it it will be interesting to see how they decide to do it.

I wouldn't mind if we did. I'm usually already carrying the gear I would want to use for aesthetic purposes. T'would be great if I could fight like a heavy armored warrior and look fabulous at the same time.

References:

Everquest 2, Lord of the Rings, and Rift with "Costume" slots. You have the appearance of the "Costume" slot, but have the stats of the actual Equipped item.

Aion and Runes of Magic a bit similar, where you could transfer the appearance of one item to another (take the awesome level 30 armor appearance and slap it on the drab, but statistically superior level 50 armor).

i dont want this. what i want is more variety. Well get variety with 2.0 i presume, so for now id rather deal with it then have people running around with cobalt stat reindeer suits.

There will definitely be more variety, the game is still being overhauled so nothing has been really expanded yet -- The only good implementation of a vanity/costume system is if it has restrictions in place that it won't become a costume party and just look plain silly lol. For example event items can't be used as costumes over gear for use in battles/crafting etc, but it can be used to override other event items.

Same with Mage gear, As long as you're of level you can swap mage gear models on mage gear, otherwise we'll have cobalt/reindeer/swimsuit/(insert other event costume) looking mages xD.

In the other MMOs i play that uses this system seriously (as in has actual care put into armor design and character design) you're limited in what type of customes you could wear that overrode models, the main ones that did were helmets, capes and weapon skins.

if it was very restricted then i wouldn't mind as much. but i don't wanna see mages wearing cobalt and vice versa. also id prob like it most if it was just head gear that could be switched.

I don't think people will run around in reindeer outfits all the time but if they want to who are you to stop them? Its their char so as far as it goes they should be able to wear what THEY want to. Well I do agree I don't think a mage should be able to look like a melee or a melee look like a mage.
