Tracking the newspaper people (example Harbour Herald)

There are three papers that operate and each of them have a crest item they will give out if you answer some questions for them.

Each item gives you an achievement for co-operation.

On Karnak the Ul'dah GM appeared
Sunday, 1 January
12:30PM (GMT+0)
9:30PM (JST)

There are other threads for battles etc so this is no different. Please post your sightings so we can all work out when they will be showing up.

You can add them to your friends list, then you can check it now n then to see if they come online XD

I tried that and they vanished from my friends list when they left Ul'dah.

Does anyone know the names of these reporters? I can setup a macro to do a /tell <name> Hi!
If it says could not be found they are not online.

I don't want to seem miserable but.. is this really a good idea?

I mean, I know the intent is good, but.. well, first off, isn't their randomly dropping on people sort of both the idea and the charm? And second.. wouldn't publicising a timetable like this only spoil it by setting a large number of people on the GM, subsequently making the events, seemingly intended to be limited-number-to-one in nature, difficult to work, if not wholly unworkable? I'm pretty sure that's why the GM's aren't publicising the timetables for this in the first place, and I'm pretty sure that's why this is different from the 'other threads for battles etc'.

I.. really cannot escape the conclusion that the best case scenario is the GM's will see your work here.. and move to foil it by appearing at different times (if they aren't already, by randomising it). And in the worse case it might spoil what's intended to give a special little experience to a few lucky people by unfairly forcing them to share, when the idea is that the 'for everyone' bit is the published article.

Much as I really do hope I get to participate in one of these spontaneous events someday, I certainly wouldn't want the opportunity to come about like that, so.. sorry.

I believe the names of the 3 GM characters are

Kipih Jakkya
Petyr Winsome
Dural Tharal

Not sure which one is for which city and I beleive they can all be piloted by a GM of different speaking language

Although I can partly agree with the “If the GMs see this post, they might just change their time of appearance.” and I'm pretty sure there's no pattern in their appearance, I, for one, am against this type of randomness. But don't misundersand me.

I like the idea of the event... What I don't like, and this in any circumstance, is when your efforts aren't rewarded (at least in a world like Eorzea). Allow me to link a couple of topics on this:

- Request to have more hints on special characters appearance

- Reward for your efforts


The second post is about crafting (will be addressed in 1.21, finally...), but the point is similar: I spent a lot of time trying to find these characters or understand a pattern on their appearance, to no avail.

Also, like I said in the past, often it happens that the adventurers meeting Kipih, Petyr and Dural don't care about them or the story of Eorzea and that's why I requested if the GMs could “feel” the presence of a True Adventurer nearby.
This happened to me as well: I met Kipih on December 27th and she was speaking to another adventurer in the Quicksand, but after a while he teleported away without even saying goodbye to the reporter. So I was left with her, but she had an appointment and had to leave. And I had just returned from gathering, so I wasn't even wearing my Subligar!

That's why I asked if “we who care about these events” could have at least some hints on their next appearance. Not exact details, eh! Just some hints, for the Twelve's sake.

Since the end of August I set camp in Ul'dah by the stairs leading to the Gade of Nald, until I discovered that these characters don't appear only there. So how could I know where to stay?
And since I don't like to stay in the same place for too long, after many days of waiting I just moved. But trust me, I've dozens of screens of me crafting in those places at Ul'dah, Gridania and Limsa Lominsa trying to meet these characters and I never succedeed once.
Petyr paid me a visit on Xmas day as a surprise when I wasn't expecting him, although we couldn't talk for long. I appreciated it, though, as he seemed to have heard me on my request and after 4 months rewarded me for my efforts. Why can't this happen more often, to avoid all that time spent to no avail? 4 months is way too much time, in my opinion...

And besides me not liking staying always in the same place, it requires way more time than what I spend in Eorzea to wait for them to appear daily.

What I don't understand is that we adventurers who care about the story and lore can't have real chances to participate in these events. I mean, I don't care about “super equipments” or stuff like that, I just want to fully live the Seventh Umbral Era events, even if I don't stay that much in Eorzea.
And yesterday's episode of Alfgar vanishing after a few seconds, after I spent the whole day waiting for him (I was in the Carline Canopy, so I would have read the messages in chat even if I was away) is just the latest (not sure if it was a bug or not).

I hope they'll consider to finally give some hints and let us, who care about them, enjoy these events as we pleases.

Im just wondering but if you asked to be interviewed will they do it or do they have to come to you?

I came back from being AFK the other day in front of the Ul'dah fountain waiting for Alfgar and lo and behold Kipih was there wanting to talk to me. So I told her about the cultists and such and she put up the item in bazaar and let me buy it. Didn't think to see the Gridania reporter in Ul'dah lol

Dural Tharal spawned in uldah this morning, was NOT GM controlled.

Gave 20 prism's for 3 mole meat... gotta wait for a bit to see if it gave me the interview achievement.

Maybe its in response to ppl not liking the live events?

just an achievement things on lodestone I guess. So how much it worth depend on person to person.
like most item/event, something for players to brag/proud/fun about.

Sighhhhhh, just now (Jan 14th, 5:15 CST) on Selbina. I never found him nor got a response.

Edit: Found him, was just an NPC. Spawned north of the adventurer's guild, Upper Deck. Asked for 3 mole meats.

Edit2: Gave him 3 mole meats and got 20 of those firework things. Wondered if I could do it multiple times... the answer is yes. Now I have 60 of those things.

It's a fireworks. Whoever you use it on gets a rotating image of the newspaper's logo hovering above their head for about 5 seconds.

Well I got the Harbour Herald lodestone thing but did Uldah's and didn't get that one seems to not give them anymore :( or if so I have no idea why I only have one when I did all 3 XD

Need to use Prism on yourself to get I believe, i think the original achievement from GM Controlled required you to use the prism to get the achievement also.

Check my lodestone, got all 3 achievements in ~45 min apart from each other.

I think the NPCs are still up so maybe they are permanent for today or for a while.

*sigh* spent 2M buying these in wards and now they are free for worthless drops

What I hated about these live events was that the GMs spoke either French or German.
Even if I've met then 4 times how was I suppose to communicate with them?

Every event should be in English, its the only language everyone can speak even if they don't want to (I am Greek).
I am glad they made this event permament and easy.

Actually, the language switches every time they appear. Last time I saw Kippih, she spoke English. Dural spoke French when I saw him, never met Peter though.

I'm kinda happy I got my achievement before they NPCd the event, even if it's meaningless. RPing with them was fun, too bad they changed it.

1- By french and german
2- I dont limit myself SE limits my capabilities by using french and german GMs that have limited capabilities of understanding only their own language
3- Because they arent speaking in Greek.

Met them 4 times All of them in French and once in german.
They should reply in the language youre talking to them and thats the end of it.

I agree. I got to RP with a GM more than once and I was delighted get my achievement the fun way instead of the cheap, blah, unoriginal NPC-barf way.

This is exactly what I remarked on in the other post about Alfgar. What made the GM interaction special was because it was different every time. They were witty, funny, and sometimes they dropped information not found anywhere else.

I hope they don't give up and let us have events like this again.

This is no longer needed as they are no longer controlled by GM and have been replaced by NPC.
You can get the achievements by trading them mole meat x3 in each city and using the respective items they give you.
