Improving 330 gear through hunts is a TERRIBLE idea!

Wait, no it's not. It's a great idea! This means we casuals can continue to improve our characters, albeit at a slower rate than the raiding community. It rewards time invested: there was never any reason to gate the best equipment behind raiding, since all it was going to be used for was more raiding. That's wasteful! Hardcore raiders will still get the titles, the mounts, the prestige, and that nice warm glowing feeling that comes from knowing that you're better than the rest of us. But the rest of us will get something to work towards, and that's nice. And who knows, maybe people who wouldn't have given raiding a shot before out of nervousness will be emboldened enough to give it a shot and help grow that section of the community. Either way, this is good for the game, right?

FWIW, higher ilevel gear will be made available in the new 24-man raid, which should be pretty accessible to the majority of players.

Outside of gear upgrades, there's little incentive for raiders to clear a stage more than once. Plus, I would say most current (non-Omega Savage) content doesn't even benefit from higher ilevels.

Again, 340 gear is useless for non-raider. Susano and Lakshmi can be done 300, and Shinryu EX will probably ask no more than 320 or 330 with the release of 24man raid. The only reason they add upgrade in the hunt is once again to give people a reason to do it because it's so crappy nobody would do it otherwise.

UGH! its satire, and obviously so if you ready the first sentence of the OP. This person recently posted something funny in a different thread, likely the one this thread is mocking.

It's best to lock upgrades behind raids. Also savage upgrades are still limited to 1x drop/week/per-raid even in savage (glaze, twine roborant). Just like how they are 1x/week/person in the casual 24-man raids when they open it up there.

Even if they opened it up to hunts they'd have to lock it out to only being purchasable once a week then. Not be open to just anyone who can grind hunts all-day.

and...? you can upgrade tome gear through hunts in the odd numbered patches since they implemented the hunt in 2.3... this is nothing new.

Are people actually complaining about being able to upgrade tomestone gear through hunts? Those complaining must be new to the game; hunt upgrades and 24-man drops have been a staple of the catch-up patches for a long time now. Perhaps they're arguing against casuals being able to catch-up to raider item levels? I'd say it isn't a big deal since item levels are ephemeral and glamour is the true end-game. Raiders will still have their exclusive glamours.

Completing savage has not granted anyone any extra titles since the start of Heavensward and Upgrades through hunts has been in the game since (late) ARR as well, so you're kind of out of touch with the state of affairs and maybe inform yourself better.

That's because you'll find a serious version of this thread if you dig through the forums right around the time that patches 2.3, 2.5, 3.1, 3.3, and 3.5 came out.

Well if you have enough gils you can just buy the materia (or if you're a tank 99.99% of the time the roulette is tank)

Misleading titles like this shouldn't be allowed.

Higher dps and survivability is always useful regardless how difficult the content is. Expert dungeons go by faster when people kill stuff faster.

The statement "340 gear is useless for non-raiders" is factually false.

I hate hunts ever since it was released in 2.x.... its nothing but a toxic waist dump of negative players. Stormblood started out great... amazing story, job revamps looking at brd :) and a few other QOL changes. Unfortunately making us run content that is just as boring as fates to just upgrade gear is not cool at all... Stormblood is turning into Heavensward all over again..... and thats not a good thing

Traditionally, the best equipment in Final fantasy series was never locked behind tough end-game bosses. You could get the best gear before fighting them because that was the point, why would you need even better gear after defeating them already? We can say the same, it's useless for raiders too unless they want to make subsequent runs easier. But, then again, casuals want to make their Exper roulette easier too so goal generally is the same.

At least the hunts are more interesting this time around and even the A ranks have some mechanics to worry about instead of just being a gank fest. That damn Oni Yumemi.

But I agree with the OP. The best MMOs have multiple ways to get the best gear, either a harder, quicker way or a longer, more time consuming way.

You can turn them in to one of Rowena's vendors (Eschina) for items, namely a striking dummy and some barding for your chocobo.

Wyrmhero blade is actually a pretty bad weapon compared to Tournesol, Zodiac Spear, Excalibur, and especially Masamune. Plus at that point there's nothing left to use it on so nobody really wanted it.

eh, that's only because our gear is fairly low still. Just wait till the next tomestone tier and these hunts are gonna melt like nothing again.

It just promotes salt about hunts being stale content yet not waiting for the entire server to arrive before pulling, especially the HW ones.

You'll probably get upgrade items weekly through the Ivalice raid anyway.

No?... You can get by faaaar the best weapon in Zodiac version (Seitengrat with 224 attack and 75 evade) right when you unlock airships near start of the game, there are countless youtube guides for it. And the rest of ultimate weapons, armor and accessories are easily acquired from chests or bazaar/crafting. Wyrmhero blade and such can be stolen in Trials mode on fairly low levels as well.

Am I the only one who's noticed that old 60 hunts are much better than the new 70s for grinding seals? You can solo old A ranks for 40 seals and the old hunt marks die in about 2-3 hits and give the same amount of seals as the 70 marks.

Sounds dumb to me to complain about letting ones upgrade there 330 gear to 340 from hunts. When hear in 4.1 you will be able to craft ilvl 340 gear. Sounds pointless to me.

I am going to play the devil's advocate here, even as a raider I thought it was a bit silly when they decided to gate upgraded tomestone gear behind raids.
It would be like putting relic upgrade items in raids as well. Seems like it's a bit silly - why have the upgrades at all if you are going to gate them in content that already drops i340 pieces?

Tomestone gear is meant to be the "casual" gear that people can just grind for every week..
Raid gear is meant to be for those who want faster progression and min/max their jobs or stat-stack.

That's the way I have always seen it. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying they should change it - just saying that I think it's a little pointless.

Further on this for those that do actually raid, it only further encourages the restrictive "static raid group" concept in this game which is very limiting - this is because casual raiders like myself, that rely on PF have to constantly compete with 7 other people and you just have to get lucky to get it.
In a static, there is a lot more control over who gets the upgrade items and you can simply take it in turns..
To combat this, they could simply include the once per week rule (similar to 24-man raids) on upgrade items. But that would speed up progression too much and they won't have this - because they seem stuck in the mentality of gating people with progression by weekly caps and lockouts..

I would actually prefer that there's some gating so we don't all end up in the exact same gear everywhere.

Something like:

• Raider get Omega 320 -> Creation 330 with vendor only unlocked after clearing Normal Omega -> Omega Savage 340 or Augmented Creation 340 with token only dropped in Savage
• Non-raider get Verity 310 -> Dungeon 300 augmented with Verity to 320 -> Augmented Dungeon 320 further augmented with Creation to 340

No stat differences, just model difference. You see who the raiders are, and that gives them recognition for completing the top-tier content. Us casual losers can walk around in our dungeon gear model but still perform on the same level. I'd be perfectly fine with that.

Although this does risk having static parties demanding members to farm augmented dungeon gear before raiding, but it would be the same situation as now anyway, with people expecting everyone to always cap Creation every single week or you're a lazy ass looking to get carried.
