I swear I've lost more because of this than any other reason.
Yeah sure, I've accidentally thrown it a few times by having 1 medal stacks and not realizing there's 3 seconds on the clock. I'll take the blame when I deserve it.

I recognize there is another silver player on the enemy team. But like... they aren't the healer... Higher gold should be with platinum while lower gold should be with higher silvers?

Expecting this game's matchmaking to give you an even team is like finding a needle in a haystack. Matches are literally won or lost solely on how good the healers are. Game is too hard (apparently), and the Devs aren't listening to our feedback at. all. Just enjoy your gamble every time you queue up and hope you get a Yahtzee. Solo queue only gets rewards because reasons!
Had a match earlier where my healer was Silver, and the opposing healer was Plat and we got absolutely annihilated, my inexperienced healer just couldn't keep up with all the damage going out. Maybe I'll get lucky when my 30 minute queue pops! -

The match start, your team looks like that: NIN(GOLD) BLM(GOLD) AST(not ranked) WAR(SILVER)
The opposing team looks like that: MNK(SILVER) BRD(SILVER) WHM(GOLD) PLD(SILVER)
Before the gate open you pat your team on the back for a match well played only from the matchmaking.
Then your tank focus the melee, because duh, melee first! The WHM is having the time of his life keeping the MNK alive with no trouble, NIN inevitably die as the AST even if he had tried wouldn't have done much, BLM follow shortly after.
WAR spam "Well Done!"
Team panic eventually decide to get that WHM that for some reason can heal even the most desperate situation... Well without any interference and a skill like Benediction that's not really difficult. Then even focused PLD pop cover on the WHM that easily heal himself and the PLD.
Your AST get killed, at least he tried, somehow. The WAR rush the opposite team alone with the healer dead. he die, end of the match.
WAR spam "Well done!"

the game will try to match ppl but if the ranked player base is not there it will put ppl together to make the queue pop. otherwise you will be sitting forever in queue.

There's just too much leaning on healers to perform. It's TOUGH. I've done it and I *hated* it. The healer can make or break a feast match.
I also think that teams should be matched two tiers below their own. If you're platinum, you should be matched with Gold and Diamond. That's it. But then that would make queues abysmal... -

By the way, they tried stricter match making before and it completely killed PvP. Queues would take 30min+ to match people together, and eventually people stopped waiting. This was back in the original 2.0 PvP system. -

The system takes your rating into account and trys to average it up to some point in the matchmaking process.
The hard limits of matchmaking are your tier rank +/- 2 tiers. So You as silver can get -2 tiers(Bronze and unranked) and +2 tiers (Gold and Platinum) potentially. Because this rule applys to every other player too you will see only one of these extreme options obviously.
Now to get into more detail, the system tries, if there are enough people in the queue to match a pool of players with the same cumulative rating against each other. Sometimes weird things happen like 4 high gold players play vs 4 low platinum players. This would be still fine because the spread of the cumulative rating is not big enough.
So the system tries to do its best actually even though it sometimes doesnt seem to be that way because of the uneven distribution of the gold platinum etc. tiers in matchmaking. The limiting factor of fair matchmaking is that SE decided to favor queue times and just pop every possible match right off instead of waiting a longer period and gather a pool of players before starting multiple more fair matches at once. Another way could be to change it back like in season2 with a possible tierspread of only +/-1. PvP community may be bigger now?! to make it work -
