Cool I guess.
Hmm, hp increase to machinist and bard, I am happy and perfect cool with that.
RIP melees. Not only do you do less damage, but even if you can get to the ranged attackers, they all have more HP.
Looks like another dumb patch that will make game harder for pvp players. Not like it affect me any since don't ever pvp. But 8 hours for these few changes makes no since at all.
It takes 8 hours to implement some minor PvP changes!!!!! What gives people?????????????
*looks at patch notes*
...In the words of Gaius van Baelsar: "Is..That..All?!"
"In order to accompany Patch 4.06a, we will be performing infrastructure maintenance on all Worlds at the time below, during which FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable."
Geez, some people should spend a little less time playing and more time learning how to comprehend the written word.
if you pay attention to the lodestone a number of worlds have been having issues lately so the maint is necessary.
Any "infrastructure maintenance" that takes 8 hours should result in said maintenance personnel being fired afterwards. We already had a stupidly long maintenance when they moved the data centers. Stop with the walmart quality IT department already.
*stares at changes*
Too little, and in the wrong places for a lot of this. RDM Didn't need a generic spell damage increase, it needed streamlining a sufficient incentive for the fact that it dives into Melee range for its 'burst' (which is low). AST needed shield, not reduced timers and tanks, most especially did not need to do LESS damage and have lower stun times when healers (who all got HP buffs) are already dominating the meta.
Just hoping this is a minor judge in leau of more substantial changes needed.
No, when you're dealing with cross-global staffing, networking testing for both hardware and software on a small overall staff, that sounds about right.
This does not sound like a routine change, which usually runs around 3-4 hours. But, you know, try again when IT workers aren't watching you put a foot in your mouth.
Actually that's incorrect. During maintenance where there is a normal update of a patch, it will just say "performing maintenance on all worlds" and nothing about "infrastructure". A lot of worlds have been having issues as of late and having to do stuff on the infrastructure is necessary this time around.
Perhaps take a look at the notes from previous patches hmm.
They also bring the servers up when things are done early. #1 rule of server maint is to plan for more downtime than actually required. If something goes wrong, easier to use more of already allocated downtime than say "were sorry, we broke stuff and need more time"
So you are suggesting SE should fire all their engineers in all regions around the world, because infrastructure isn't just in one place when it comes to an MMORPG. The long downtown for the server move was a rare instance but again, you seem to know a lot about maintenance and infrastructure uh. An estimated 8 hrs downtime is really nothing compared to 48hrs.
People calling for the end of peoples livelihoods because they don't get to play for 8 hours :^)
Sometimes you can't keep everything running on bubblegum and spit. You need to shut it down, suss out the issues and get it fixed. Would you rather the game just RANDOMLY shut down for some things and other things break randomly throughout your player experience? It's going down for a planned 8 hours now, so you dont get random bits of your playing experience broken later. I don't know if you've ever fixed a complex system like a car or a network, but some things take a bit to troubleshoot, you can't expect it done in just a couple hours.
if that's not enough reason to justify it , I don't think you'd be happy with any explanation. Criticism is always necessary, but I think this isn't a lot to ask of us.
I'm sure 4.06a might also fix other problems related to their server infrastructures. I'll just say 4.06a is some sort of preparation to move forward to 4.1, because once that patch comes out the servers are going to be awfully congested again, and SE might want to ready up and stabilize the servers as much as possible before opening up new contents. Other than that, PvP balancing continues and it's pretty hot in there.
I'm certainly not too tech-savvy, but infrastructure maintenance sounds time-consuming. If it takes them 8 hours to do so and fix a couple bugs and make other changes, then it takes them 8 hours. Let them do their thing. They wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't necessary.
Wow some people are scarily addicted to this game..
It's 8 hours. Go do other things.
Your life is not going to end if you aren't logged into the game every waking moment of your day.
Relax.
The changed made are for PvP only, so IDGAF.
Ugh, potencies get nerfed which means having to spam more skills to kill stuff. One of the things I can't get on board with personally.
It's like trying to kill a mammoth with a little stick.
Oh wait... This is PvP only? If so overreaction.
I think they turn off all computers and make a party with barbecue and only come back 8 hours later and turn on everything again! Yoshida is well know for liking barbecue... they can't trick me, I'm sure they turn off it cause they need to use the socket to light their electric grill!
Oh boy, i wish they would at least share some of that delicious barbecue with me...
To be fair, a lot of us have full time jobs; It's not really every waking hour, just right after we've had a long day at work and want to get some dailies in before bed.
Not that I don't have other stuff I could be doing; I'm just tired of these people calling others obsessed/addicted every time they gripe about not being able to log in when they actually have the time to do so. Just stahp.
Scholar and Summoner still not fixed...
Eh? You can do your dailies tomorrow. There is no dire need to do get them done every single day.
So you miss a day. Big whoop.
The game is very rarely down for maint, and even less-so during NA prime time. Guess what? In my region of the world maintenance always falls between 4pm - 8pm.
This is an "issue" for many other regions in the world for every maint. You are constantly being catered to - but oh no! God forbid it effects NA players once in a blue moon! Everyone throw a tantrum!
So this patch has basically nothing in it and yet the maintenance takes 8 hours? Is it just me or does FF14 have like way more downtime than other mmos? Are square really just incompetent? A few minor balance changes shouldn't take this long, and who even gives a fuck about pvp? I tried queueing for it for the first time yesterday and couldn't find a single match. It seems already dead and I'm not surprised, the pvp always did seem like miles behind wow's.
It has way, way, WAY less downtime compared to most, because they are usually on top of major issues that could crash the game. I'd prefer they take 1 night every couple weeks to fix things or even emergency maintenance if needed if it means stable gameplay compared to the alternative.
I feel like WoW could get this patch out in 2 hours and you'd probably be able to play while it's going on too.
Already explained on the last messages, it's infrastructure too!
And i give a fuck about pvp, it's really fun and I'm getting all my classes to 60 just to be able to wear all the garo equipments...
And i dunno what you did wrong, cause pvp is almost instant queue nowadays.
Even their standard maintenances take 3-4. Hotfixes they generally apply without anyone realizing it happened though. Their next patch, 7.3, comes out tomorrow and it's going to take 8 hours for them to complete. Chances are the game will crash or there will be login issues, prompting them to take the game down again for at least another hour to stabilize it. Wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last.
I was gonna run feast for wondrous tails since it seemed like a quick an easy wt objective, sat in queue for 20 minutes and decided to just use retry points on mog ex and run it a couple times for the last 2 stickers.
I'd like to try to put this in perspective for you:
These are the balance changes that perhaps should've happened before they started Season 5 of the Feast. SE is on record saying that they didn't get enough data from the preseason to facilitate any balance changes (furthermore, it was because they were largely focused on making sure the raids were properly tuned), but decided to start Season 5 anyways. . .
Now imagine if that were the other way around. They balanced PvP then said "we didn't have enough data/ran out of time to balance the raids. Please try them anyways!" and simply left you to it for almost 2 months. How much of an outrage do you think the community would have? How bad would it be if there were major issues with Shirogane when it opens and they just say " We'll fix it later. Please enjoy housing in Shirogane"? Because THAT is what happened with PvP. You say who gives a fuck about PvP - clearly not you - but what about something you like in game? Imagine it was left needing attention and they didn't get to it in a timely manner, but expected you to just accept it and keep playing? (In fairness, they ARE human, they won't catch or fix everything right away or when we want it every time.) Imagine someone came along and made a statement as baseless as yours about something you like, and ask yourself if that sounds okay?
I won't mince words: Your way of thinking is VERY detrimental to the health of a game, and I for one am glad you aren't a part of the development team. If it's in the game and it needs a fix or adjustment, it's worth it, plain and simple. PvP has been largely neglected for the longest time, and now with 4.0, and the near sacrifice of what even the PvP community loved and enjoyed all along, they're trying to give it a more mass appeal and show some support. It's here and it's been here for a while, no matter how much anyone wants to hate it or claim it's dead. (Side note: If you were queueing Frontlines, you missed a fun event I started simply with a forum post over the weekend. If you were queueing for the Feast, you're a bit late to the party to try to jump in ranked matches as an unranked player, and 8v8 while different IS still VERY active, for better or worse, so I challenge your claims of it being dead - AS a player who enjoys it regularly.)
Now then, for the people who are looking forward to Royal Menagerie Extreme, Return to Ivalice, or even just Shirogane, tell THEM the patch "has nothing in it" when 4.1 hits, and see how well that's received.
I was scrolling down, read BRD and I was like "Omg, pls don't nerf". God thing they didn't.
SE proves once again that they have no idea how to balance PvP.
Yet they want it to be an active game mode. LMFAO.
Watch tomorrow they will have a emergency maintenance to fix problems they did wrong with this maintenance. That take another 8 hours.
It's just you.
Every patch isn't going to contain something you care about.
It sounds like you really like WoW, which has maintenance and patches about things you probably also don't care about.
Infrastructure maintenance is likely to prepare for the incoming 4.1 patch and the cross server friending that will be happening.
