Hey, I just finished my guide for the Aetherial Gates, and I just wanted to share on the forums.

Nice guide, thanks.
Very slick! very detailed from when i last saw it :O good job!
Thank you, glad you like it.
This is amazing.
Very well done kind sir ^^
I'll agree that the Gridania nodes are the most stressful, but those nodes will soon be mine ^^
The only places that really require help is Snakemolt (OMFG this place SUCKS) and Lasthold. I did all of mine solo and those were really difficult, but entirely possible.
Great guide, been working on getting all the gates lately. just missing a select few from a couple areas (And alot from coerthas)
I explored the entire game early on and neglected to get the nodes....oops.
Awesome job man! Thank you very much for your hard work. :)
Ranking up the views nicely, maybe i could embed piccies in there for you, and links to the Map section.
Hmm, I added one from your Photobucket links, Widow Cliffs and it seemed to load fine, I noticed some links missing quotations, like href=link instead of href="link" and the the image tag might not work if done in similar style, has to be src="imageurl"
I can put in the rest similar if you think it would look neat.
Also to answer your questions about uploading images directly to guide, if you go to Manage > Media, in dropdown there is a category for "Guides", any images you upload here will appear below the Edit Guide box, and clicking them will add in the html for you!
Thanks for your work!
Very nice guide. Thanks:)
Nice guide. Something to note though for the ppl with lancer and archer, dread spike can absorb a 9999 hit, and decoy evades any ranged attack or magic attack once, so a lot of the places i was able to buff up and choco through to the gate before death, oakwood tunnel for example. Buffed and ran right past ahrimans.
I've gotta say... Lichenweed was way easier than Snakemolt for me. Went 1/1 on Licheweed with little issue, spent hours... literally hours trying to get Snakemolt the other day.
Lasthold was also a pain but getting the achievement for The Black Shroud is a damn nice feeling, especially since I know all of the others are going to be WAY easier.
TBS and Coerthas down, smooth sailing from here.
Thanks for the info. At some point I do plan to update the guide with more skills that help with avoiding mobs besides sentinel.
I've heard a lot of ppl say the same, but for me, I got Snakemolt w/o dying, I guess it was just luck.
On another note, when I got this gate in 1.20, the first passage only had a drake, eft and raptor in it, but when I went back in 1.20a it had 3 boars, which made it somewhat harder. If someone notices the mobs change, comment here or on the guide so I can verify and change it accordingly.
I think the enemies near the start of Snakemolt have a large radius they can move in.
I've seen the Eft go as far as from right up to the room with the Malboros all the way to the entrance of Snakemolt. It seems to me that the pigs, the eft and the drakes can all move about that area as they wish so the assortment of enemies you get at the start my vary.
I could be wrong on this but I know at the very least that the pigs can go all the way to the start (to where you change servers) and the eft can go almost that far, maybe like 3 steps in on Chocobo after server transition is as far as I have seen it go.
I know the Drake can come as far as the first little archway/tunnel you see upon getting into Snakemolt (all of this assumes you're entering Snakemolt at the north end, closest to Traquil and Queen Bolete)
Yeah, and i suppose more ppl trying to get the gates means that they're gonna move the mob placement a lot due to getting aggro and running. As for snakemolt though, i don't remember seeing the eyes or morbols (or even the qiqirn) anywhere in snakemolt, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
I don't remember seeing any Qiqirn to be honest... but they don't aggro so I doubt I paid any attention to them if they were there lol!
But uh, the Malboros/Flies are in the circular room all of the rest of the mobs seem to be able to move right up to this room. That circular room tends to have a safe spot on the right side... don't know if this is by design or luck/chance that the enemies rarely tended to go to the far right of that circular room but in my experience they just kinda left that part alone.
Nice job on the guide!
Nice one looks nice shall use this for some of our ls excursions shortly ty ty
Super bump powaa!
I didn't think it was possible, but the guide looks even better now. Thanks viion (Premium Virtue)!
Thanks for the guide once again, just finished my accomplishment for wanderers shadow. I found Lichenweed to be rather easy though only took me two tries. Had a terrible time with Snakemolt.
I think I might go through this step by step for my Istory character XD wonder how long it will take haha, Currently 15/87
oh wow nice guide, this will make things a good bit easier. Thanks ^.^
Ok, small update. Just did a run to Snakemolt with my LS, and it is very hard to get there. I really got lucky on my 3 runs through there :D
Imma just go ahead and bump this again.
Stay fabulous people!
Here's a tip for getting a few of the gates the easy way if you have it available to you:
Sorel Haven - In one of the Archer quests (I think L36) you will enter an instance near Sorel Haven. If you zone out of the instance here you'll end up near Sorel Haven and can snag the gate.
Lichenweed - Upon first using the echo in the Gridanian storyline you'll enter an instance up near this location. Zone out of the instance and you can snag the gate with ease.
/bump
I'm walking around lvl 46 antlings now, and they're not attacking. I think they don't have true sound aggro.
Snakemolt's difficulty varies from "impossible" to "almost for free". I could make it to the first circular room without having to avoid a single pugot since they all wandered off somewhere. Next part only has one pugot at the end of the way, passed it and grabbed the node.
Deadliest combo in black shroud so far was guivres+pugots, since you can't pass pugots without aggroing and guivres have ranged attack. Decoy makes things easier, but only if there ONE guivre on the way.
Also, Pugots seem to stick to the spot they killed you at and move back and forth passing it. Used that to disarm the way to Lasthold. Involved a few deaths but the way was free after that.
Ninja bump!
Now that SE has announced that they are getting rid of the gate achievements in 2.0, I've decided to necrobump this thread so everyone can get their gates. Be sure to comment here or on xivpads if something needs updating (and yes, I know some of the gates are outdated from the changes they made in 1.23.)
