its a patch maintenance so its going to be earlier so they can fix bugs and that, all patch maintenance happen earlier, it happens. Someone somewhere will have an issue with it no matter what they switch the times to. At least its not every Tuesday night anymore.
They try to change up the time a little to be fair to the timezones most served by a data center as well. So it drifts around. For me they are often after midnight, sometimes starting as late as 3am, and sometimes they start as early as 9pm my time. I don't mid, at least it's not always in the middle of my play time.
We have learned from the last 4 years of mains, or any maints in any MMO's...
Maint times are always gonna be at someones inconvenience.
Someone, somewhere.
2:00 am to 10:00 am (GMT) is not prime time, at least not in europe
Maint is almost always after midnight my time.
I work evenings so it is when i get off work. But i dont piss and moan about it.
They did this back during ARR, hitting the US hard during our prime times. Why have we gone back to doing that again? This would be the 4th time canceling a raid night for me and my group.
Eh? It's nearly always around midnight PDT.
The extended maints that come with a patch are sometimes a tad earlier but for the most part you guys get lucky.
It's one night, get over it. Go outside. See some sun/moonlight. You will get over it in a day.
Let's see, normally it starts 10 pm PDT, sometimes even 11 pm PDT and goes till 3 am. Unless it finishes earlier, then you can count on something around 1:30 or 2 am PDT. Last patch and this upcoming patch, starts already at 7 pm PDT and goes till 3 am. While I don't mind it, we can't say it's close to midnight. Because 7 pm is clearly not close or semi close to midnight, last time I checked. I can see why people might be angry about that.
Guess it's NA's turn to be inconvenienced the most for patches. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
Since I live on the east coast of the states, I've not really been affected that hard, if you ignore that I'm up until 3am or so anyway. If you ask me, Europe has always been the one to get screwed since the times for the states means that Europe's kinda screwed in the morning/midday.
Oh good lord, it's just a few hours. You'll manage. Really.
Aww! Boohoo!
Let me play a sad song for you on the world's smallest violin.

It's a minor inconvenience at best. Surely there's other things you can do to pass the time? Other hobbies to indulge in? Games to play? People to talk to?
How about you do other things that you enjoyed in meantime, it's not like you will be left in behind in terms of progression, it's just a few hours at best.
You'll live, play other games.
The game is played around the world.
You can't expect it to always inconvenience Japan.
In the close to 3 years i've been playing i've allways known them to be around this time. Am i mistaken?
Also has nobody thought about the fact this could have nothing to do with inconvieniancing anyone but more with working hours in japan, with the people that have to actually do the updating? Do we demand they do it during night hours for them?
Agreed i can only guess, but i'm fairly shure everything software related is done remotely on each datacenter from japan headquarters.
Its only 1 day, it happens, oh well. Read a book, play another game, go bowling or something
This attitude is really starting to get annoying lol. I see it on the forums all the time. "they only care about the precious JP players" well, when you bring out this attitude, i cant blame them for not caring what the NA community has to think. If you read the 2 different forums, ours looks like its full of a bunch of whining babies half the time.
Fact huh? Do you have proof of this fact? Other than conjecture based on maintenance times for a company during their working hours? These posts also happen like clockwork every single time a patch or maintenance is announced.
And if you bring up "Most companies do their system maintenance during off hours to impact the least amount of people" This instance doesn't fit that bill as a large number people are affected no matter what time maintenance is held, so it makes sense to not have overtime and do the work during normal hours of business.
How about counter the argument and not attack the person making the statement? That is what I am sick of seeing. Has there ever been a time where a maint happened during JP prime hours? You really think it is unfair for people to speak out on bias they see? On the forums they have a ton more replies while here it is rare to see. So someone saying they do not like the unfair bias is fair.
I wasn't specifically attacking the person, I was attacking the attitude. There is not maintenance during JP prime time because it is outside JP work hours, and as no matter when maint happens people will be affected, do maint during work hours. I see no problems with this.
I always get nervous when I am looking at an 8 hr down time. The reason I came back to FF14 was an 8 hr Down time in BDO. I'm pretty sure it will end up being what lands me back in BDO or some other game. Once I start something I kind of get lost in it and forget what I was doing before it. As per always, I pay FF14 on a 3 month schedule and I have half that left.
Oh well, maybe I will spool up Fallout 4 and nuke some super mutants.. been a while.
First. World. Problems. Jeez it's like not everyone lives in the same parts of the world, who could've imagined. Great work on having a complaint thread for a maintenance as is tradition. (and yes I'm complaining by commenting, doesn't make this thread any less ridiculous and whiny)
They usually plan them (when they are actually planned) around a time that will affect the least amount of players. Game needs updated though, so sometimes it just isn't ideal for anyone. Emergency maintenances happen as well though that's usually only a couple times after a major patch. Beyond all of that I think they keep the game up and running pretty well because they are so quick to fix things most of the time.
List the changes that have been done to "cater" to the NA, I'm curious
I don't really get what all the fuss is about..
Extended maints have nearly always started earlier.
This one is an 8hr maint.
This one also appears to be "infrastructure upgrade" which might mean they are actually doing work on the NA servers to some extent.
It might even be down to the NA server tech guys and when they are willing to work.
It's not like this happens all the time. Barring the odd emergency maint, you guys in NA get it pretty good.. Quit your crying. The world isn't ending.
Get on with other things. You will live. You will get to play the game after maint ends.
It's not even like maints are all that regular to begin with . . . .
Yeah, that's true. But when I first read it on the launcher notices I saw 7pm-3am. As a European, this seemed well off the mark (and also, why is it giving me PDT instead of GMT/BST when I'm a European? I'm already logged in by this point, it knows I'm using an EU/other areas account, not an NA account), but when I checked EU lodestone it said 3am-11am BST. That seemed more to the mark.
EU players thankfully once again aren't getting the shaft. But my word did the launcher notice give me a heartattack.
It would be nice to get some sort of explanation for the creep. The last few patches have been getting earlier and earlier. They used to be 3 or 4 hours later than they currently are. If they want to swap times around, that's fine. But they need to actually swap them. This is becoming the new time and it's smack in the middle of NA prime time.
It's probably more because they moved servers and need to schedule agreed time between everyone doing the maintenance.
