Get rid of overmelding. Gear progression should not have massive Gil sinks especially in crafting. I get that the old players who know how to manipulate this make tons of money but the system is not explained well and a barrier for new players. Incoming hate.

Bring the hate and explanations on why/how I can do this and also make a zillion gil and how it helps the game. This is my perspective and I acknowledge it may not be of a popular opinion. It is just my observation.

In a new players opinion it muddles the gear path/progression and is nothing more than a gil sink/money maker. This does not encourage new players to progress and try new things and should be removed in my opinion.


Thank you and veteran players feel free to bring a million reasoned arguments that won't change my perspective at this point.

You're welcome to your opinion, but why even bother posting if you're not going to actually be open to opposing views?

Also: Overmelding isn't required. All Content is possible using zero materia and compensating with skill or knowledge.

They already took away my gil source income isn't that enough?!

I have never, nor will I ever over meld progression gear, there's absolutely no point for me to, I'm not in a hardcore raiding group, we're rather casual, and that extra amount of stats won't help me progress further in any content I've done. I don't even bother to get the crafting gear. That being said, I'm not about to sit here and tell people to get rid of a system that others use just because I myself don't use it, or because I happen to hate said system.

Gear progression is up to the player, and crafted gear will always be 10-20 ilvls below current raiding gear that is either dropped or bought with the current currency. I'm not sure how this affects you in anyway or why you would want to change it now. If your raid group is forcing you to get the crafted gear and overmeld it, then that's a discussion you need to have with them, not take it to the forums because you got upset over what was done in your own personal group.

The only gripe i have with overmelding are BiS Tank Accessoires...
But they are just the product from the poor scaling of STR on the Tank Accessoires and a general misconception of Tank damage, its effects and scaling on the dev teams side.

But there isn't overmelding for raid/tome gear..... You can only do safe-slot melds.
If that's what you're talking about, then it requires very little additional effort to do some hunts and farm the materia you need for your safe slots.

The only overmelding you can do is on crafted gear - which is not as high an iLvl as tome/raid gear.
If you removed overmelding, you effectively make crafted gear at endgame completely pointless.
This just further reduces the point of having crafters at end game..

It also gives people the illusion of customization in the sense that they can choose to focus on certain substats more than their pre-built options, which can only a good thing in the game.

If you're having gil issues, then you should consider finding ways to make your own.
We already need gil for very little in this game. At least give us something to dump it into.

Just because you don't wish to spend time earning game currency, doesn't mean you should limit gearing options even further for those of us who wish to utilize these options (in this extremely linear gear progression game).

This game barely has enough uses for gil as it is.. Taking away a use for it for end-game players is just nonsensical.

I am a high level crafter (not maxed yet for 70, but sat at 60s for awhile in heavensward). Overmelding takes patience and luck. Overmelding can make crafted high quality gear almost as good as upgraded raid gear. It is a different option for people. The crafting experience is not necessarily one that many people enjoy and thus choose not to level. If you don't like the concept of overmelding, which is explained really well in game by the goblin in central thanalin, just acquire your raid gear or tome gear and apply materia in the slots provided.

So let me get this right, you're unhappy cos people who played for a long time know how to make Gil and you don't? Well errr learn? Zero melds on fishing can net you a decent weekly earning. Stop you're whining and level your crafting/gathering

I don't think anyone 'manipulates' overmelding to make gil. The people that do it are raiders doing it at the start of a tier.

What others said. If you need to meld excessively on entry expansion content then you're not following progression for that content.
The stats caps are designed for running the content, not faceroll or outlevel it. Same thing with crafting, you only have to be 1-star
crafter to attempt 2-star recipes. That's how progression works but doesn't require what the rich raiders/crafters claiming.

Only the very end 3-4 stars crafted gears have luxury for extra stats room for next expansion or end of this expansion. That's still long ways enough for anyone to make gils.

For most content melding is not needed at all. I have done everything except savage raiding on both healer and dps, and i have not melded anything at all onto my gear.

My gear is a mix of 310 from Verity tomes, 320 from normal mode deltascape and 330 from creation tomes. I have healer and dps both at 320 gear level and can do it all fine, dunno about savage because i havn't tried it yet.

You should definitely meld safe slots at least..

Even with T5's if you really can't afford it or something, as they are like 3-4k a piece.. It actually adds up to a lot of free damage that you're missing out on.
But like I said earlier.. T6's are super easy to get.
T5's really shouldn't go on anything that you will be holding onto for a few weeks. Meld VI's if you're planning to hold onto that piece for 4+ weeks.

once you hit stormblood the game also gives out free materia left and right i had stacks and stacks of it and i gambled it all away didn't need that much.
