What about Drain?

I don't feel the need to use Drain as RDM or SMN because they already have a healing skill.

But as BLM I noticed some things about Drain that really bothered me:

First, the potency is too low. The other mages have better healing options and usually they can handle themselves (At least with a chocobo on their sides). Even with a chocobo, BLM with Drain and Manawall can't handle some fights like the others do. Paople could say the skill heals and causes damage at the same time, but it doesn't make it good, because DPSing isn't the intent of Drain anyways... I think the potency could even be reduced, but the healing should be increased.

Second, the casting time. Ok, BLM has a speed buff and an insta-cast buff, but I don't want to spend them with Drain... I had a situation the other day where only me as BLM and the healer were left at a 4man dungeon' s boss. I should rely on Drain as Healer would heal himself and rez the rest of the party, but I couldn't because boss interrupted me every time. I wish Drain was instant, so You can Kyte the mobs/bosses/Fates...

What do you guys think?

I had and was using Drain on Red Mage to test out but the return for use is too little to warrant being on your crossbar for either caster.
Drain does what it says but is very weak and i guess just use for an absolute emergency.
Insta cast would be nice but i think potency needs to be bumped up some otherwise should have not been implemented or just removed all together

Yeah, but RDM have Vercure (I guess at lv54?) and while vercure heals for 4k and you can double it, Drain heals for 1k... Physick also heals for 1k, but at least you have your pet to take the damage for you while you're solo. BLM have Manawall, but the CD is too big (nothing wrong with that, if Drain was better)...

Drain averages about 1800 heal on my SMN where as Physick (our so called healing spell) is averaging about 700. Plus drain has the added benefit of doing damage, however little.

EDIT: Physick is useless 99.99% of the time.

EDIT II: and Energy drain is returning about 1500 hp...

I totally forgot about Energy Drain for SMNs, as I play more as SCH. That is also the reason why I'm MND Specd (and you may be INT Specd, right? Is 30 points that huge of a difference?)

Also, I'm not at lv70 with any of my DD casters, but Drain for BLM is sucking so hard, I had to create a topic about it...

There's still a sleep to mitigate some damage if mobs aren't immune. Blm just doesn't have any solo healing or tanking capabilities, never had actually and not really supposed to.

Drain should still return more HP to give blm and smn a way to recover HP

Attribute points actually aren't a thing anymore, they did away with those. So on sch you're full mind, on Summoner, full intelligence.

This i totally agree with, the melee all have an emergency heal of some type but the two old casters only have Drai n, which while it's spammable, takes up gcds and takes at least two or more to equal up to a second wind. Physick is completely worthless.

Drain would be too good if it was even just decent... Bm would just solo everything outside of timed content or mechanics that wipe if there is no group...

Drain was okay while doing MSQ on BLM, but that's about it. Did prevent at least one death from what I can remember.
