MNK Crit and Skill Speed recommended stats?

Hi All,

What is the ideal skill speed for monk? By this i mean at what point does it start showing diminishing returns? 1000 skill speed?

Also for Crit, whats the best spot for this before we invest more in direct hit?

skill speed doesn't have diminishing returns on any class. its an exponential growth. the problem is that with the calculations as they are now, it's difficult to reach the numbers where it exceeds other substats.
That being said, due to the nature of Riddle of Fire being your "burst phase", you need as much skill speed as you can stuff into your gear to offset the speed penalty.

Regarding crit, in most cases, it's not a great stat. it's growth suffers from exponential decay this expansion. That being said, Monk rates Crit as it's highest substat due to the Deep Meditation trait.

On a Monk, Direct Hit is actually one of your lowest substat weights, and should more or less be ignored.

Your priority of substats is as follows:

Crit > SkS > DH > Det

Really? I always assumed direct hit was number 1, at least that's what the monks I spoke to told me.

Although melding direct hit I didn't notice much.

So SkS is even more important now I guess with RoF. Makes sense.

So when melding I should cap crit and sks before looking at direct hit? I thought direct hit would impact my auto attacks more as well seeing as it's 30% of our damage?

in general you are right for most DDs DH is the stat to go but Brd and Mnk have to many crit utilities/procs which make crit more important than DH for those two cls'. For your last question I'm sry to say that statweights are still on testing and analysing - I doubt anyone can tell you fix numbers yet... : /

It very hard to believe that DH doesn't help Monk's at the same scale as other jobs. I'm operating on the assumption that Direct Hits are proc'd independent of Critical Hits. Obviously Direct Hit does not help with Deep Meditation however, what Direct Hit does do is stack on top of a Critical Hit allowing an interaction elevate to a DPS crit alone cannot achieve. A good example of this is a Monk with a higher Direct Hit stat will for sure do more damage if you isolate Bootshine hits alone. Having more crit cannot help Bootshine do more damage, but a Direct Hit can. Same thing for any other Critical Hit a Monk is already going to land.

If measured data shows that Direct Hit really is a useless substat for Monk then I'm keen to believe it, but then it means SquareEnix must have done something to nerf this stat for Monk, or the idea that it independently procs separate from crits is false. I also find it hard to believe that SkS is more because RoF only has a ~20% uptime max (if you can/should always use it right off CD) while Direct Hit affects you 100% of the time. Without RoF it takes a boatload of Sks to lower your GCD. I think there's a 4.0 Sks -> GCD calculator and it starts to take too much of it to drop GCD below 2 seconds - somewhere I'm sitting at now off of GL3 alone and no real effort to putting anything int Sks.

I don't think direct hit is useless. It's on our equipment anyway. However I think increasing the chance of crits might be more beneficial?

As for SkS, I got the list weapon which lost 187 SkS. I'm now unable to do my opener. So SkS is something I need to invest in at present. I though however think that the 1k or 1.1k is the sweet spot for SkS. It allows that extra rotation from perfect balance when RoF is up which is always good

Actually this - and no-one said that DH is useless or scales differently for Mnk in anyway, why should it?

How bad is the DoT clipping with massive skillspeed?

I'd say people need to start rechecking their research. None of the top monks are pushing SkS. It's waste with current available numbers. The priority is Crit > DH > Det > SkS currently. Some are putting SkS over Det but either way you really dont want to pick up more than like 1k of each anyway

My GCD without GL is 2,38 (1116 Skill Speed).
You can use two Snap Punchs after Demolish and you wont clip your next Demolish.

yeah im looking at around 1200 for Skillspeed atm, not stacking too much but focusing more on crit. i Think i got my crit to 1600 with Direct Hit at around 1200. Need t play around with it but under 1k SkS i can see my dps is lower. I can no longer get as much GCD in to do the damage i once could when i had 1100ish

i once make my monk skill speed above 1500.. It was very fun..

@1240 Skill speed my RoF was really fast, @1150 it feels slugglish. Hmmm tempted but at 1150 i can do my opener which is nice

First : Go on fflogs, pick some of top MNK on several fights, then go to the Lodestone and try to check their gear set. You'll see that most are going with a heavy crit as a very priority. Then, you can find tons of different builds. Sadly, the stat weights AREN'T RELAESED YET, so everything that you'll claim will be only speculations.
Second :One of the reason why stat weights aren't released yet is because of the complexity of how SkS scale with the other substats. (at least from what I understood, and I'm not a math expert)
Third : No one here said you should go full SkS, just that you shouldn't avoid completely this substat. Just like any other substats to my opinion.
Four : Trust me, you can give a shitty gear set to a top MNK, he/she will still be on top. Knowledge of the fight/positionnals/buff raids optimization are more important than having THE BiS.

In addition, SkS is also a question of feeling. I personnally prefer when my GCD is shorter than 2.40/2.39 without GL3 otherwise, I feel slow AF (you need 1049 SkS for this : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...XG8/edit#gid=0).

So in the end, to my opinion, I would say to go Crit first because of Deep Meditation, then try to get to the SkS required for the GCD YOU want, and then try to get a decent amount of DH and Det (with a slight priority for DH maybe ?)
