DEV 1081 How Achievements Work NPCs do we really need all the running around?

I'm loving the Achievements but I find it really bothersome to run to an NPC, that I will most likely have forgotten the location of by the time I earn the achievement.

I do agree we should not just be handed a title or item automatically but these NPCs need to be in closer and in better locations.

My idea would be to split all the categories up into three and have a achievements NPC at each adventures guild.

What do you all think?

they are tying to make more use of these random camps, version 2.0 might make better use of it with its smaller maps.

as much as i like the idea of the guild being a 1 stop shop for everything to make it easy, it also takes away from the rest of the game if we have to go to it for everything.

In my opinion, it was more troublesome then actually fun. There will be hundreds of players who won't utilize the Achivements system because of the hassle. But its not entirely bad the way it is... I'm just glad I won't be doing that trip again lol!

I hit all of them in one evening to unlock them and it wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't want to do it every day, but with a chocobo and airships the travel time is not really all that out of line. It might be nice if someday we can get more travel options like hopping on a chocobo carriage and have our character taken there instead of running or something.

I keep hoping that they will be adding more reasons to go to those places and that there will be a reason to spend an evening there with a party or something. If there were only planned content for the hamlets...

All that said, I like having a reason to leave town... It makes sense that NPC's in far away zones want things... I don't play FFXIV to stand in town and have everyone and everything within 10 yalms of my character at all times. Or for one zone line to be 5 different things... I'm looking at you GC/MW :(

If the achievements are not worth a little travel to a player, then they don't deserve reap any rewards from them...

I enjoyed all the achievement NPCs, their little quirks, and their back stories. I don't want them to be changed.

By using OPs reasoning, it's rather bothersome to step outside the city to talk to all the side quest NPCs. All side quests should be started from the Adventurer's Guild. And don't get me started on all the running around I have to do for the main storyline.

Between teleports, chocobos and the airships, getting to these NPCs is not some huge bother. (Perhaps a little bother.) And don't forget, coming in either 1.20b or 1.21 the achievement NPCs and their locations will be displayed on the Achievements UI. So you won't have to remember if the Battle Achievement NPC is in the Golden Bazaar or over by Hyrstmill.

They were likely assigned to different NPCs in different locations to give it some story and flair; a raison d'être, if you will. The Final Fantasy brand is renowned for its story, and it's little things like this that really tailor to and/or immerse those that care about it, such as myself and the poster above.

If it were up to me, I would have added an achievement NPC for each DoH and DoL class.

I'm sure they'll get moved around with the zone redesign, but i'm also glad they're not just sitting in town. Unlocking *every* category as a level 15 PGL took me maybe an hour and a half, and thats without a chocobo and pretty much no aetherites unlocked. In fact, it gave me a good reason to travel to the other areas and unlock some aetherites in the process.

Considering the achievements that award titles and items are *extremely* limited, and as time goes on travel options will only become more diverse, I don't really see much of a hassle in having to go back to the NPC *maybe* once or twice ever. Remember, the system wasnt designed for all players to magically log in and have all the achievements already completed and have to run around to every NPC three times to get their rewards immediately. For a new player many of the ones that have rewards you need to pick up will take *months* of play to complete.

it be cool if we could use our teleports to get to the npc after we talk to them once and gain the achievement list.

I always thought their locations were put there for an obvious reasoning to get people out into the "countryside" as one could call it.

Do you not have to return to them to collect the item reward if you are granted one?

Yes, you have to. Both for item reward or title.

I wouldn't worry about the list as they said the NPC locations for each achievement category will be made visible from the achievements tab.

I admit that I havn't gone to recieve any of the rewards for the achievements I gained since I first went to the NPCs after patch 1.20 was released. I couldn't remember which NPC corresponded to what categories or remember where they were for that matter. And I didn't care enough about it to look it up (since they were just title rewards mostly.)

I remember they said they were planning to have the NPC names and locations added to the achievement UI though, so I'll just wait for that.
