I think SE needs to implement a style system

right now we have multiple versions of the shisui outfit but on the moonfaire event we only get the one with the skirt and without a sleeve, it would be nice if we could get a toggle that let's use choose which type of the set we want to wear like I could use the caster/tank shisui pants instead of the skirt

we could also use the sky rats outfits as an example

the caster skyrats top has a scarf on it but it would be nice if we had a drop down menu or a toggle to remove it

They need to massively overhaul the glamour system in a large number of ways, yeah. It's a convoluted burden at this point, and every new glamour item released only serves to highlight even more problems with the current limitations.

I don't have strong feelings on the Shisui gear specifically as the guy versions aren't that exciting, but it doesn't seem as though it should be too much to ask for fewer restrictions on making a combination you enjoy.

1) Glamour log is first priority, but we know how that's historically gone.
2) Eliminating the whole dyeable vs. non-dyeable notion as well. It was really stupid/awkward how that was handled for the ARR artifact armor in particular and just serves to bloat the total number of items unnecessarily.
3) Merging other variants of the same set in some way would be great as well.
4) Enhancing dye options with multiple channels would be amazing. So many pieces of gear that accept dye only over a small portion resulting in an appearance that still isn't what you want. (Crescent Moon Nightgown is especially bad about how it's dyed, for example, as the gradient will always start at white. The new Faire gear is another example though as the leggings remain white regardless of dye.)

I was thinking of DMC when I read the title... but I agree with all pointers raised in this thread. We need more freedom in terms of glamour, not more restrictions SE.

Things I would like to see changed, along with OP's post.

Toggle certain bottoms on and off instead of making them disappear or change appearance when using most if not 99% of all tops.
Please make the antiquated WHM robe collar go away. It's ugly, clips with almost every hair style, and ruins a perfectly good robe. Toggle on and off is acceptable.
Allowing dying of accent colors.
LET PEOPLE GlAMOUR THEMSELVES HOWEVER THEY WANT, DONT DICTATE MINE OR ANYONE ELSE CHOICE OF APPEARANCE.
Create a log for gear pieces so you don't have to hoard everything in the world.

Edit: A glamour log might also be an incentive for people to run older content for a completion sake as well.

A toggle to switch between alternate models of a given piece of gear would be nice. There are a lot of pieces that have slightly different looks based on gender, like the ARR Dragoon AF, and all those leg gear that are pants on male characters and either mini skirts or shorts on females, which have gotten complaints in the past for not giving players the option to choose the model they prefer.

I agree that glamours need to be less restrictive. Some suggestions in this thread, though - folks need to understand that some requests are a whole lot easier to grant than others.

- Ability to glamour items from another class, or from gear of higher ilvl: EASY. Right now, the only thing preventing us from doing this is some hidden checkbox in the code that is preventing it. Heck, you can even mix and match freely in the preview window; all that's missing is for the game to allow it to happen for real.
- Ability to glamour items from another gender: DIFFICULT. Clothing would need to be redesigned to fit the opposite gender model; essentially, this is asking for new gear to be added to the game for every piece of gendered gear.
- Ability to dye any piece of gear: DIFFICULT. Lots of decisions need to be made when deciding how dyes should affect a piece of gear. What parts get colored, and what don't? What kind of gradients are involved? Creating undyable gear takes a LOT less development time. It's for this reason that most gear is added undyable, with a few cherry-picked to get dyable glamour variants once they prove to be popular. (Granted, SE COULD use a bit of common sense; it's pretty obvious that the Shisui gear was going to be a hot item, like any gear that shows a lot of skin.)
- Ability to dye gear multiple colors: DIFFICULT. For many of the reasons immediately above, but with the added trouble of deciding how the two colors interact with each other. Additionally, folks would expect all currently dyable gear to get the second-color option, which means reworking all existing dyable gear.
- Ability to give the same piece of gear different looks depending on the job/class equipping it: DIFFICULT. Right now, glamour is stored with the piece of gear in question, and only bothers recording the look. For this to work under the current system, gear would need to be able to retain multiple looks, as well as data on which job/class the look is associated with, which greatly increases the amount of information each piece of gear needs to track.
- Add a Wardrobe: DIFFICULT. A new form of storage would need to be added to the game, similar to the Armoire but MUCH less restrictive. It would theoretically need to be able to handle every piece of visible gear in the game, and that is a serious data storage issue, even if only the bare minimum amount of data is kept (a simple yes/no toggle for each equipment ID, which is pretty much what the Armoire does).

All but the first of these are asking for quite a bit of effort on SE's part to implement (and, honestly, the first is something SE could probably accomplish with a half hour's worth of work from a single programmer, and it's a source of continuing bewilderment to me that they still haven't done so).

I do think SE is aware of folks' discontent when it comes to the current glamour system, but I'd guess they're justifiably worried that if they invest resources in only some of these options, folks clamoring for the other options will be upset, and vice versa. Hopefully, this concern does not stop them from simply throwing up their hands and giving up...

Adding multiple Dye channels and the ability to dye any piece of gear really depends on how they've laid out the existing system. If it were done well (which I'd HOPE it was since they implemented dyeing in the first place, but I doubt it was considering everything else about this game's development), then it should be a matter of design discussion. The technical changes should ideally be fairly minor, and it would come down to the art department to decide which channels they want to specify for each piece of gear and then taking the time needed to mask or map those.

Un-gendering gear sets would be a nightmare though as trying to adjust the current models would be difficult and require a load of QA where it is even possible. Otherwise entirely new models would have to be added, so yeah, I don't see this one happening.

The log needs to happen though, difficult or not. It would likely involve breaking the item and its skin into separate components, a la GW2. In this way, you would unlock a skin rather than an item, and if multiple items share the same appearance, they would point at the same skin. This could also help to get away from the dyeable and non-dyeable gearset duplication, but they've baked that into crafting at this point, so there would be some cleanup needed there.

I would guess that those features were built into the other MMOs' glamour systems from the get-go. If SE had had the foresight to add them from the start, then there wouldn't be an issue. Changing things NOW is where the difficulty comes in. Whether it's worth the investment depends on how many customers they think they will lose by not adding them. (The answer is: probably not many.)

Id rather not have THIS versionof a glam log but rather WoW's version. If we was to have wows version, it would show us all the available glam options as well as where to get them. This could be used as a way for ppl to do older content.

Because the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If people keep asking, eventually SE will notice and bump it up the (long) list of things that need fixing.
