SOOOooo... gil making as a BTN?

I got my i290 HQ crafted gear and folklore books, and started farming yellow scrips. And then I realized that the i300 gear will NOT throw me over the 1200 perception cap and I'll need to do some serious melding to get over that threshold. I'm sitting now at 1019 Gather / 1006 Perception.

However, I kept noticing... The only thing I'm to gain from having 1200 perception is the ability to harvest HQ items from legendary nodes. HQ Torreya Logs sell for SCRAPS at my server (around 3.5k gil, just about the same as a NQ Rhea), and the HQ Rheas, while they go for 10~15k, almost nobody wants them! I've one listed for 3 days now (found someone selling a pack of 8 for 4k, bought and relisted at 12k) without a buyer. The NQ ones I had put there sold after a day, however.

Also, I'm already at cap for Ephemerals it seems, any more gathering/perception would be overkill for those.

So, I wanted to know 3 things:
1 - Why bother with getting 1200 perception? the investment in melds doesn't seem to justify it, really looks like it's a waste of gil ATM.
2 - Is there another way to make gil with the class that I'm not seeing?
3 - And the yellow scrip gear? I seem to have hit the cap for everything with i290 HQ crafted, is there even a point in farming those?

The thing is, two-star crafters don't need HQ mats. My miner friend was looking at what he'd need to do to get HQ palladium ore and he was pretty surprised when I let him know I don't need it HQ.

If you're trying to future proof your melds so they last for a long time, go for it, but crafters who need those mats don't need them HQ.

I think the most reliable source of gathering income at this point is hitting ephemeral nodes for aethersands of all types. HQ hallowed basil might be going for an all right price.

Don't try for HQ, try to sell the NQ in bulk, is my advice.

Actually my point was exactly that I didn't see a point into melding my gear and needed confirmation, which you just provided.

As I'm now at 1000+ Gather/Perception, I suppose I'll just hit Ephemerals and maps then, and gather NQ Rheas when they come up.

Unless your personally going after HQ items I would strongly recommend just letting your retainers gather and have them well geared for both HQ and normal. I would focus on DoH for faster gill making. My set up is;

2 BTN = Max out gathering and Perception nice mix of HQ items and normal
3 MNR = same
1 FSH = More for gathering items for potions
1 DRK = Leather and bone
1 DRG = Leather and bone

Note* you can get more retainers for a monthly fee of MogStation. and space isn't bad either.

You can sell items for daily turns in HQ sell for nice prices.

Average in a day of retainer alone just gathering items for turn ins = 500k - 800k

If I use them and keep HQ items on sale gear wise 60-65 gear 900k - 1.5mill depending on what I'm focusing on.

If you keep them fully stocked 20/20 to sell you can make some nice gill in a week. If you have an FC focus on cross breading to get Blood peppers. They sell very well.

Knowing Leve items helps a lot as well.

My FC only have a small plot which I'm free to use as I please.
I'm cross-breading for blood peppers trying to sell the seeds but that's not happening, nobody wants to buy my seeds. I'll need to grow them probably, which will hinder my ability to produce seeds (since I only have one gardening spot).
Blood Peppers sell at 340k in my server, so that's a 1 ~ 1.5mil profit every 12~14 days. Argh.

I think it only takes about 5 days to grow or so...it seems like 2 weeks I guess :P

I meant that because I only have one plot, since my FC house is a small one.
So I'll first need a batch of glazenut + chives, and then plant as many blood peppers as I get from those. 7 days for the glazenuts, plus more 7 days for the peppers to grow.
As I only have one plot, I can't grow them simultaneously, and that sucks a lot.

Ah whole process got you sorry, I'm a one man FC so keep forgetting whole process. At least you have the FC that supports you, many don't give you access unless your part of founders. Kind of why I choose not to join FC's, and just rent out certain aspects on my FC like airships and gardens.

Actually my whole FC abandoned the game and I'm the only one left, so after 30 days I got the owner badge and now I'm a one-man FC as well... lolz

For the yellow scrip gear, is there a point to it: yes and no. At some point you will be able to augment it. I'm slowly, lazily acquiring the yellow scrip gear for DoL because of that.

However, you can spiritbond the white gear, convert it, and either use the materia or sell it, then put a new piece of white gear on.

1. Seems currently no need for HQ as much, but may need it for future patches.
2. Spiritbonding. Take some NQ gear (buy it from the vendors in Reach or Kugane) meld any 2 materia in it (Take those cheap DEX materia that people are selling for under vendor price for example) and hit some nodes 67 and above, and also timed Folklore nodes. Take the AlC Spiritbonding potion and you should get some tier Vs and VI materia from it.
b. Don't think big ticket items all the time, farm up items that constantly move as well. It does add up. Aetherial Reduction. You will harvest clusters and crystals like no ones business, and sands.
3. The Scrip Gear was never really a BiS (it wasn't in HW either) It's main purpose was to help players who hated melding reach stats that made it good enough for them to be able to reasonably craft/gather a considerable amount of recipes.

sell aethersands nq for a steady income, also high perception will increase your chances of discerning eye procs which means more sands

Materia is so easy to obtain (The Gathering iV materias i mean) so not really expensive to meld.
The yellow script gear is not very good, only the tools are worthwhile

I also have a miner and botanist retainers to help me out. Either for stuff to craft or just to sell.
Shards always sell well also, i make sure i stay around 4K in my tabs so i can sell if in desperate need of some gil
