Never heard of that... But would solve many issues with inventory...
Happen to know which interview that was mentioned in? Curious if there's any hints to be gleamed from it regarding possible timeframes.
That said, if they don't give a specific timing for something then it's one of those "up in the air until they finish it/get it working" type things. Might be coming with 4.1 or a sub-patch, might be they want to make the change sometime in the 4.x series, might be they don't know when they'll have it ready and so just aren't locking down a time for it.
I do hope it gets added, it would definitely be a nice change.
I will go find it for you
It is here: (I answered my own question, it looks like 4.1 it is supposed to go live. So the question is, when is 4.1?)

That seems more like an odd joke than a confirmation that they'll be changing stack sizes.
I've a feeling the servers would implode if that happened.
I hope they do with armour, weapon and accessory aswell (when the item is in the inventory) . Just separate them based on NQ and HQ.
I foresee: I want 2 of item. MB sells at item with a stack 999. XD
Which is why we need to have some sort of pop-up that lets you choose the number of items you want from the stack. Would make things a lot easier on people trying to sell tons of stuff(having 5 vending slots for one item because only certain sized stacks sell is ridiculous).
Or the easiest (and most intelligent) decision would be to just abandon the archaic mechanic of "Buy everything player X has for sale". I realize Yoshi had this dream of players being thoughtful about quantity vs price when putting things up for sale, but the playerbase is too lazy for that. If we could choose how much of something we wanted to buy, then we can list all 999 of an item for sale, and guess what, someone can only buy 1 or 10 of them if they want. All the current purchasing restriction does is hurt newer, poorer players who don't have the disposable gil to just buy a full stack of an item and resell the other 98 they didn't need.
Discretionary purchase quantities is something they've supposedly been working on since 2.0, but like a lot of other needed features it never materialized.
Unfortunately, I am not sure most of the player base even cares about "real world" economics. Most of them just look at the lowest going price and undercut it by 1-5 gil, regardless of the stack size. While I do think it would be nice to be able to purchase the amount I want (eg. stack of 99 is on the market, I only need 10-routinely annoying, but I just go gather it myself usually), it will no doubt slow selling of things.
And yet we still do not have stackable maps... :(
LOL True story. However, the last interview seemed to focus more on cost of development. Many times they referenced "We will have to see what it would cost to implement this" So it went from, it will crash the server to it's going to cost too much money to develop. Which, I thought was a little concerning.
