Warrior Utility Idea

Well, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Warriors are in a pretty bad spot right now in terms of utility. They're bringing nothing to parties, aside from a potentially higher damage output that is VERY hard to notice when you take player skill into account.

I was thinking in another thread about how it would have been awesome if when Warriors changed stances, they'd gain buffs depending on what stance they swapped from and how much beast gauge they were losing for doing so. Then I thought about how it would be even cooler if those buffs got applied to the entire party, instead of just the Warrior. That would do WONDERS to their utility!

However, the stance penalty is gone, and so this idea is no longer a possibility..... UNLESS, we incorporate it into Shake It Off!

As it stands, Shake It Off is completely useless, only saving healers an Esuna or two at best. So what if we scrapped Shake It Off, and added a new skill that would make the above idea a possibility?

Basically, I'm proposing a skill that would half your beast gauge in exchange for certain buffs, depending on what stance you're in when you use it:

Deliverance - increases damage (OR critical hit rate) of all nearby party members by 0.3% per beast gauge point lost, for 20 seconds. By using it with a full beast gauge, this would be a 15% damage (OR critical hit rate) increase for your party, at the cost of 50 points.

Defiance - gives a 10-second buff that increases the HP of all nearby party members and heals that amount by 0.2% per beast gauge point lost. With a full beast gauge, this would be a 10% HP increase for your party. Sort of like a mini Thrill of Battle.

The skill itself would have a 1-minute cooldown. I was gonna go for 2 minutes at first, however since this would be our only utility skill, I think 1 minute seems fine.

Still don't know what it should be called though. In the other thread, someone brought up the idea of using giving Warriors shouts. So how about... WAR CRY?! :D

I'm just going to be fairly blunt about one thing that I see here and often mentioned as an idea for WAR utility.

A raid-wide dps buff as a utility ability for any tank would be OP and make them immediately the meta choice, making them mandatory.

The only way this wouldn't happen is if they all were given one and then at that point we are equalized and back the the same situation.

Direct DPS boosting is just too valuable to a group to be considered for raid utility.

Let's face it the shake it off ability is trash. IMO it feels like it was meant for PvP. Maybe if it let us removed the parties negative status effects it could be useful on fights where if said mech was missed or not done right the party can still go on without asking if we got a sch with that team esuna on fairy

I have been thinking of something like that but I honestly don't think just that would be enough. Maybe adding in a buff that also boosts party max HP and heals what is gained, sort of like a combo of shake it off and thrill of battle but for the whole group. It would be similar to PLD's utility abilities but with a WAR flair.

War Cry
lvl. 68 (replaces Shake it Off)
Cast Time: Instant Recast: 120 seconds

The Warrior releases a bellowing cry, rousing their comrades and rallying them to victory.

Removes most detrimental effects from all party members within 15 yalms and provides the status "Bestial Vigor", which increases maximum HP by 20% and restores the amount increased for 15 seconds.

If Warcry (which i also would like to see make it into XIV eventually) isn't implemented as a direct raid DPS increase, it could be a buff that reduces TP/MP cost of actions for like 15 seconds for everyone - while giving WAR 20-30 Wrath. Don't know why I'm drawn so much to WAR having sustain utility, but stealing that utility from ranged physical & other jobs I think is something a tank could get away with,

Speaking of XI throwbacks, I'd like Onslaught to eventually become Rampage, in addition to what it already does - it also reduces Weaponskill recast by 15%-30% for the next 5 WSs (ala MCH Rapid Fire).

if not an offensive party buff... what about some sort of buff wich increases movement speed, dodge and parry rate of your party? so people can easier move out of aoe markers and if they get hit they can dodge / parry (yes, i know that you can't parry any raid busters and stuff) - at least the main-tank can benefit from that.

Shake it off - Recover 50% of the damage you took in the last 3 seconds.

@Kabooa. Good idea but to powerful. Why use a Def cd 4 TB if you just heal half your life lost. Warrior on zerk crit a equilibrium can already heal for 18k

Wow, you're totally right. :o I hadn't thought about that. In hindsight, I guess a 15% damage increase would be too strong and automatically make Warrior the best choice by far. But what would you say about changing it to a critical hit rate increase, then? If not 15%, then maybe something smaller?

Also, to people asking for a debuff removal effect... that would be excellent, yes - but I don't see it happening. First of all, it would have to do more than just remove effects that can be removed with Esuna. Things like vulnerability stacks, paralysis, damage-down debuffs, healing-down buffs, and bleeds. Removing anything else would break the game. These are the things that I always hoped Shake It Off would be able to remove, but if they couldn't even give Warriors that, I doubt they'll ever make it so that EVERYONE in the party can benefit from something like that.

And lol chill with the amounts! I think 20% HP for 15 seconds would be pretty much just like Thrill of Battle and broken as hell! 10% for 10 seconds is plenty. Think of Divine Veil, it's actually better than something like this, just that instead of a shield, this would be an HP increase. You know, cuz Warriors are all about the extra HP! :P

I'd still rather it be tied to the beast gauge and stance you're in somehow, though. The TP/MP reduction idea... I dunno, it'd be of zero benefit to the Warrior. :/ We need something more impactful but that doesn't automatically make Warrior mandatory in parties.

Most likely, the new Shake it Off will be just a Divine Veil clone. Instead of a heal for trigger, the trigger requires WAR to take damage. Instead of giving everyone a barrier, it gives everyone a HoT. Please look forward to it,

That sounds pretty cool, except I was hoping for something a bit more proactive instead of reactive. A HoT wouldn't be able to save a teammate from certain death the way a shield or barrier skill would. That's honestly the BEST thing about skills like Cover, Intervention, The Blackest Night, and (to a certain extent) Divine Veil. You can see that someone is about to die, and try doing something about it.

A heal over time would just get overwritten by healers. I really hope there's more to it than just that.

The % increase to max HP would be based off the recipient's HP, not the WAR's.
The numbers I provided we're off-the-cuff and yes, were maybe a bit much. 15% would probably be a pretty good percent that would provide DPS with a HP buffer close to a shield worth 10% of a Tank's max HP. A 10 second duration is fine.

While true, you can't heal from damage in the past 3 seconds if that damage killed you.

Would be nice if Upheaval acted as a 5 second trick attack for party comps that don't have a nin or sam in the static. But I would settle for just returning the self heal of Inner Beast, Storm's Path and Steel Cyclone to 100%. 50% and 25% respectively.

This sounds good, but it needs a new name. Warcry is already in the game. It's the JP name for Infuriate.

Honestly I was initially thinking of calling it Battlecry or Cry of Battle since it is essentially a group Thrill of Battle but so many people were using the name Warcry for their proposals that I just went with the flow.

Other potential names:
- Primal Scream
- Rousing Roar

I'm beating a dead horse here, but I'm all for Blue's or whoever's idea for shouts or cries or dps buffs or heals or shields or anything. Any idea is a good idea sounds great to me, this included. Just want... something.

My thoughts combine upheaval and onslaught with some changes, and a new ability for the for the missing one, and turn shake it up into an AoE to be combo ed into like drg has

62: Upheaval: 1 min cool down, 400 potency, no beast gauge cost but grants 10, make it a gap closer and keep the hp thing on it

64: killing floor: 1 min cool down, ground AoE that does 25 potency to all enemies in it. All Allies standing in it gain +10% healing(this effect does not apply to you), thrill of battle becomes thrill of war while standing in it. duration 15 seconds

68: shake it off: combos from overpower to do a cone AoE for 120 dmg and cost 100 tp if combos, if not it costs 130 tp, gives 10 beast gauge. if done in a combo gives a 15% chance to give a free steel cyclone

hope no one thinks this is broken, kinda think it would be balanced fixing a lot of the notions we need utility, onslaught isn't usable and shake it off is garbage

I think AoE ToB would be cool. Shift bloodbath back. Make a bit of a self-sacrifice, and then fix the name! So, like:

BLOODLUST:
Reduce own HP by 30%, boosting all nearby allies' HP by 10% and healing for same amount. While under effects of Bloodlust, all party members convert a portion of damage dealt into HP, up to 25% of max HP.

OR, if we want a little damage utility:
BLOODLUST:
Reduce own HP by 30%, boosting all nearby allies' HP by 10% and healing for same amount. While under effects of Bloodlust, all party members gain 5% additional damage and heals for this same amount, up to 25% of max HP.

An even more specialized warrior/berserker twist to this:
BLOODLUST:
Reduce own HP by 30%, boosting all nearby allies' HP by 10% and healing for same amount. While under effects of Bloodlust, all critical damage dealt by party members is increased by 10% and heals for this same amount, up to 25% of max HP.

id be happy to have shake it off just be a defensive cool down honestly, wars the only tank that didnt get a single defensive cool down in 4.0 and for the love of god make it not tied to the gauge like everything revolves around that thing on war stating to get more annoying when i thing of how all my skills are gated by that thing and how slow you accumulate gauge on war

I do find uses for Shake It Off, but these are normally "Oops, I screwed up and stood in a telegraph" sort of things, and in any content that has a healer, I normally see an Esuna half a second afterwards, so it's really not that good. The only case where I've been actually glad to have it was the other day when participating in a hunt with only a Chocobo to help me. Used that to remove any poison or blind effect I got hit with.

Still not a good skill in the grand scheme of things. Did the Dev team think that we didn't deserve anything good?
