Question is it possible Orn Khai will become possible Dragoon companion
and will be fight by are side
this isnt ffxi
FFXIV dragoons are dragonslayers, not dragon caretakers
It's not impossible but highly unlikely.
Retooling DRG around a permanent pet is not something I can see them doing, especially given the sad state one of the pet jobs we already have is in.
The best you could hope for is a glorified DoT.
That discussion has run its course in the past though so I'll leave it at that and not beat a dead horse.
Dragoons use to be dragon slayer, but not anymore with the war over and the last dragoon quest at 70, tells that too. the 2 azures dragoons don't want to kill them anymore.
We dont even have the ability to use other mounts as companions in this game. Enjoy your giant battle chickens and like it.
F this idea. The last thing Dragoon needs now is to spread their damage out to something temperamental, and liable as a companion/pet.
You have a dragon companion as it is: Midgardsormr. He's just not an external thing you need to take care of like a helpless child. His image is even in your skills.
We really don't need more loldrg references in this game.
the sorry state the dragoon is in right now I just thought of asking. yes I know this isn't ffxi
What? Sorry state? It's part of the most optimal raid composition. How is it in a sorry state? (Genuinely asking.)
And it's mentioned in the 60 quest that, while the Dragonsong War is over, there will always be dragons that want to see vengeance for their fallen, just like there will always be Ishgardians that do. The continued existence of dragoons as dragonslayers is a necessity to prevent a new Dravanian Horde.
it was MMORPG

I not sure if it is tell the truth though sometime what the writer write isn't away truthful
Dragoon doesn't need a pet while this game's AI design is so horrible that you have to constantly resummon your pet because of AoEs + they removed sustain and gimped Physick.
Plus why even? Cuz you have a hard-on for FFXI Dragoon? It just splits DPS into an unreliable AI instead of making it be baked into your own personal skill rotation. Dragoon summons plenty of dragon stuff through its oGCDs now. Would you rather have another job that has to deal with frustrating pet micromanagement in this game than melee DPS rotations? At best it would probably just auto-attack and occasionally throw a flamethrower at the end of your combos. At worst it would be like Eos and take 3 seconds to actually do what you commanded since it would queue at the end of whatever you're doing and ignore it otherwise.
Even if they would consider this (and I don't think they will) they wouldn't consider it until they've made the adjustments and fixes to the pet system they already have in place for SMN and SCH.
first ffxi and ffxiv aren't same game.
Second the lore fit for ffxiv. at this point and time. it would a challenge for SE to improve the AI system for the pets. I have play the scholar and I have no complaints
claim ffxiv isn't ffxi isn't value argument
because one could argue the same about ffxiv stormblood and ffxiv heavenward aswell.
One expansion is different for another expansion if you notice the cleric stance in ffxiv heavenward was permit but in ffxiv stormblood it isn't every combat system in a mmo need improvement
Point in Fact on my beast master super thread I point how different mmo change over expansion they pet systems
I'd shelf the job if they did that.
I miss ginger (my ffxi wyvern), but my bird messes up way more than she ever did. Until the fix the AI (sometime after never) no.
Maybe as a companion like during 1.0
Show up in MSQ quests, help you to do some stuff, 100% not controllable, can speak, don't show up outside of MSQ
In order to get a flying battle lizard, you would get:
- a hit of about -40% to your personal damage
- a stupid pet that can't avoid any AoE and is constantly getting killing
- a periodic animation lock of a few seconds when you resummon him after he dies
Not sure but I think they left out the FFXI dragoon's wyverns on purpose for FFXIV. too bad, they were adorable.
...why this again? I'm pretty sure you made this suggestions months ago and the discussion went on for a while.
(for anyone who want to take a look at it: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...nd-the-Dragoon)
I dont feel like repeating myself in length here, but: Just get over FFXI and how dragoon used to be in that game. In FFXIV its a melee-job, not a pet-job. Lorewise its a job that was developed over 1.000 years to slaughter dragons.
Play FFXI if you want to play FFXI-dragoon.
If I remember right they said one time in a Live Letter that if Dragoons got a Wyvern pet they would have to nerf Dragoon's damage to make up for the pet doing damage. I personally don't really want that. My number one memory from FF11 was summoning my wyvern and it getting one shot by a bomb toss not 10 seconds after words and only being half a job for 2 hours instead of playing a MNK, DRK, or a SAM and not having to rely on a pet. Based on how they did SMN in FF14 i really don't think they would make a good wyvern pet in this game.
In the context of their XIV kit, it would probably consist of nerfing the dragoon's personal damage by X% and moving all the BotD skills(Fang and Claw, Wheeling Thrust, Geirskogul, Nastrondr) to a pet bar. I don't know if anyone would play the job at that point.
From a lore perspective this is definitely a possibility as it's kind of hinted at in the Dragoon 60 - 70 questline, however the war only just ended and I doubt all the dragons/dragoons who have lost loved ones are ready to forget all that just yet. I see dragon companionship as the eventual end game but it will take time and diplomacy.
From a gameplay perspective I'd like to see it happen but it would have to be different from the pet mechanics in FFXI, which were apparently pretty problematic. I'd like to see the pet as more of a temporary summon similar to how you build Nastrond that would buff your DPS but not be integral to your overall DPS. They could add another aoe jump to replace RoT, for example and give it a dragon-rider dive animation.
Not neccarcilied these could be move that you and your dragon attack together as. the issue that SE is face with pet jobs is a lack of tied in pet attack with Character attack moves. already SE is work on AI system with rumor of adventure Squadron. One doesn't nerf attack of dragoons just Equalized it with dragon dps as well. Fang and Claw, Wheeling Thrust, Geirskogul, Nastrondr could be attack for both dragoon and dragonling at same time.
at lvl 70-80 the dragoon will be get stronger like all every Jobs one could introduce a dragonling companion the Equalized the dps together with dragoon.
at lvl 70 the dragonling could introduce at the next expansion point
right now we in to patch rotation of stormblood
we know that FFXIV isn't over not in silent that we evenaulty going have face the emperor
Always hated the reasoning that XI's dragoons weren't dragonslayers. The whole point of that job's lore was that you found one of the rare holy dragons that could even be a companion. Anyway if you want some nostalgia, just dress up

How about Estinien companion instead ?
You people need to really stop with the whole, "this isn't XI" just become someone makes suggestion that came from the game. How many countless people have asked for countless things from other FF games that we don't need/want/or won't fit with XIV. But oh no, when someone even remotely makes a suggestion that comes from XI, you people are all over the "this isn't XI." crap.
Getting on the actual topic: I sadly do have to agree that the pet wouldn't be fitting just because of the AI being crappy as all hell in this game. It for that same reason I'd never want to see BST or PUP in this game either.
I believe AI system in be work on because of adventure squardeny the dev keep hint we be able take them through dungeon and such. this mean the devs are work on the AI. I rather personal have beastmaster and PUP
I personally would be fine with a dragonet-style companion, but only as an untargetable and quick summon. You summon the dragon, visually it flies in, it shoots a fireball or something, then flies back out of the arena. No permanency. Non-targettable. Fits the theme of the new Azure Dragoon story, is adorable, makes sense, no nerf to our power.
DRGs have been sitting on a useless mana bar for a while. Square Enix could absolutely adapt the mana bar into something else like a Dragon Power bar (or just leave it as mana). "Yay, another resource to manage! Dumb!" However, it would not be a resource crucial to our DPS output, and would not be optimal to use over the melee rotation, but rather an optional thing during points in the fight where we are forced to spread out or remain at distance, or something. Right now all we've got for ranged attacks is Piercing Talon, which doesn't even combo off Elusive Jump. It should, but that's for another day (curse you Samurai and your fancy Enpi combos). We also have Mirage Dive which isn't really up often enough to be something reliable at ranged. There's Geir/Nastrond too but let's not split hairs over that, as it's also highly situational and rarely a comfort to use at ranged. Why not let us spend a chunk of mana/dragonpower/whatever to call in a little dragon to do something. Final Fantasy has had dragoons in the past who could cast dragon spells anyway. It wouldn't be out of place.
I would not want a permanently-present dragon companion that could die. I'd shelve the job too if I had to constantly watch the thing flop to the ground dead. Triggered. It's perhaps my biggest apprehension about Beastmaster once it's introduced, as well - having to watch a pet die over and over.
Now outside of combat, summoning the dragon companion should be an option, perhaps as an alternative to the chocobo - as new battle companions have been requested since the game came out - but with similar commands to their combat version (fireballs, breath, etc) and the ability to level up to 20 like the birds do. However, when comes dungeons/raids/trials, it's gone like a chocobo would be, same mechanic. Or if that's too much to ask, just have the thing optionally-summonable outside of combat to just chill with. It doesn't fight, and flies away once we start combat. I'd be okay with that too. I'd like it to be a battle companion in the overworld moreso, though, but I would take this as an acceptable alternative. This game's got a lot of fluff already, this would fit just fine.
why not Lukas if your dragon companion died you lose your part of your mana. this way you have keep your companion alive. I like permanently dragonling but like bst and PUP but AI system need work.
It not that I don't want to see the jobs applied to this game, but as it stands, even SMN pets are horrible and I'd rather not see BST and PUP in the same way. At current, the AI is garbage. Will it get better? Who knows. Imo, SE seems to be going backwards or just not up with the current MMO world with a lot of things.
One can only hope it improve on summoner and other job pets. I do hope for change for ffxiv on summoner, it doesn't really feel heroic and icon as summoner in other version of ff games. I wish bst and pup, I do know SE is still hint at squardonry thing. the summoner and other pet jobs do need improvement I would love see adding bst and pup but with better AI system. it seem every time Yoshi P dev put new stuff for summoner it doesn't make it better I wish we have it more like yuna and less like warlock of wow
