Character relationships?

I kinda wished that your character had some kind of relationship with someone from the Scions or another central character of your choosing or someone who's already set to be romanced by your character like, for example, Alphinaud if your character was a girl then Alisae if you were a guy. I guess something like in FFVII where you can go on a date or something like that. I'd choose Lyse though if there was an option.

Alphianaud is a nice boy but he's a kid, a little young for my character!

I would love for a series of side quests that would allow you to get more personable with the Scions or other important story NPCs.

I know the devs are mostly against the idea of letting us romance NPCs, MSQ or some characters isolated to a romantic sub-quest series, but having affinity quests with popular NPCs would be great. Just friendship quests.

The twins would be a GREAT choice, but I suspect that a lot of the Western playerbase would freak out because of how young they look, and SE seems sadly unwilling to age them even a little. Giving them new unique outfits was a great chance to make some subtle edits to their models, or at least make them a little taller, but they totally let it slide by.

Also who you got to romance would have to be based on player choice rather than character gender, not just because I'd prefer it that way because I'd hate to be stuck with the twin I can't stand just because my character is male...Given that gender is purely cosmetic in this game, and you can change it at will, it would be very weird and potentially cause serious continuity issues to tie character gender to something that could potentially have a major effect on how cutscenes play out.

Persona 5 please.

Why does this request sound like one of SE's April fools?

I would like an option like this. I'm not keen on the EB thing. Requirements for many of those seem counter to my way of things. So something else would be nice.

A neat idea/concept for maybe a future thing, (since the newest FF series seem to have a pairing of main charas, no?) perhaps making an NPC central to an expansion storyline at least our pair. Saved or being saved by, an NPC we can name and create akin to our retainers (sans perhaps the personality thing, SE can deal with a single one perhaps. Though people can be hit or miss with most of the NPCs we do have.) And we can deal with that NPC through an expansion storyline, growing closer and so on.

With or without official relationships, Cirina already is my waifu.

My character is meant to be quite a bit older than Alphinaud (sorry Alisaie) so I wouldn't really be interested. I already felt as though I was cheating on my in-game wife during some of those Aymeric scenes with his scandalous Japanese voice ;p

All of my favourite NPCs are either taken or dead.

It could be cute in the FE/ME sort of way, I guess. But with how SE writes the narrative of the story, including the WoL being a pretty flat character there for players to transpose who they think they are atop it, I feel like it'd be a pretty boring system. Especially if there were limited dialogue options that all sort of mirror each other in their own way, like how a lot of quests give your character the illusion of choice when granting two options.

And... underage characters like the twins is... just wrong on an ethical level, granted they don't look a day over fourteen. Which leads me to: I don't really know if I want to know where the playerbase would go with this.

But if they did implement it, just make all the characters who they deem "available" romance-able/etc... regardless of the WoL gender choice. Those limits are boring and stupid.

Either way.

I'd pick Aymeric.

I'd love more side-plots for the Scion characters, but as SE seems unwilling even to give core NPCs any more than stock animations and our dialogue options amount to precisely nothing beyond the next text block, I doubt it would be satisfying enough to warrant the reduced efficiency compared to developing just the one path through only whatever character content SE has determined to be most worth designing.

Edit: That said, I've no interest in dating sim elements in-game.

Didn't they pretty HEAVILY imply that Haurchefaunt wanted to jump you at several points of the ARR and HW stories? I'm also pretty sure Aymeric has some pretty heavy subtext in that department as well.

I'll be honest, as the WoL, pretty much none of the Scions are even remotely good enough for me.

Thancredge... err Thancred -- With his new look he comes off as going through some kind of mid-life crisis and is compensating for something. The magic's just not there anymore.

Y'shtola -- No real problems with her, but I don't think either of us can see it happening.

Urianger -- He tends to hang with a questionable crowd when he thinks I'm not looking. Also, kinda creeped by the idea of him having a doll of me...

Lmao, my thoughts exactly on these guys minus Tataru. When she busted out the Kimono... Why are you looking at me like that? I wasn't gonna kidnap her and love her to death. I swear!

This is not a daiting sim, but if you want to make it one try daiting another player and marrying them.

I heard that new dad sim that just came out is pretty cool though.

It is pretty unethical though for the warrior of light to fall in love and settle down. The best thing square could do without rewriting the story and perhaps upsetting a part of the player base is to have something for valintines day, but nothing permanent.

Honestly, when they introduced Zhloe, I thought that's where they were going with that whole thing: that the NPCs requesting stuff from her would rotate, and as you turned in more of the things they needed, you'd get little cutscenes or short sidequests with them. They even built the window to make it look like you could raise the "favor" of more than one person, but then Zhloe was the only one they ever added...

Putting aside a romance option, I would love to see this used better. It could be a great chance to get to know some of the NPCs better (Y'shtola's love of shoes from the lore book? Maybe we could craft her a boat load of new shoes. XD) and to get some short tidbits of personality and lore that the main story doesn't have time for.

Then they could just collect requests from players and add one or two more NPCs with every major patch.

Yoshida said somewhere (I want to say it was Fan Fest, maybe EU?) that Zhloe was a test and they planned to expand the system if she was a success. So from that I'd assume they hadn't worked on any additional NPCs yet at the time they released Zhloe, so there will be a gap before any more are ready if she is viewed as a positive addition to the game. I liked the system so I hope they add more. Yoshida also said something about potentially making gear/weapons etc for NPCs and having the NPCs start to use the items you made them to make crafting feel more rewarding.

I think most of them took place in my imagination every time he opened his mouth and that wonderful voice came out. But he was definitely terribly eager to ply me with birch syrup and invite me to dinner. And the Aymeric night visit during the Starlight festivities certainly got my attention, especially as his was the first option I chose then suddenly, Aymeric.

Haurchefant was on another level, though :(

Am I the only one with an eye on Baderon? He was so adorable when I "dote"ed him all 3 time last year...

Let's just leave lore or the WoL's disposition aside.


It would be extremely limiting to the dev team, story-wise, to introduce, mechanically, any sort of major NPC relationships. It limits what they can do with that character. All of a sudden, mjor characters can never be removed from the story due to any players losing their "investment" in said character. Minor characters suddenly become more important, due solely to whatever benefits they supply. The story Team now has to write AROUND every character they want to give this option to, instead of writing stories FOR the character.

On top of all that, I'm not sure how Eorzea treats this, but why am I romancing Ameryic behind my EB partner's back? Kinda undermines that entire thing, don't you think?


Neat idea on paper, but I don't think it's as universally great like some would think it is.

The best solution is to just add flirt lines to MS/Q lines. It can't possibly hurt development time for adding in 2 or 3 pieces of line. Sometimes you get good reactions from stuff like this lol.

I'm creeped out by this whole idea. Especially alphinaud and alisae who are children. Creepy. I would definitely NOT want this in the game.

Maybe unethical to settle down until the world is safe again... But why is it unethical for the Hero to fall in love?

The idea seems creepy. I'd rather find my own real person to love in game.
